The broad root breast is a breast form that is defined by the distribution of breast tissue. Owners of broad root breasts have breasts whose base is bigger than their depth and goes further to the sides of the chest, their breast tissue has little projection forward and stays close to the chest.
It is especially common in smaller cup sizes, but it can occur at any size.
Broad root breasts need very wide wires and shallow cups. Since this breast form is very common in smaller breasts and a lot of people don't know where their breast roots are, a lot of women wear bras which are much too small for them in the cup and the wires. Since the breast tissue can appear somewhat hidden for owners of broad root breasts and they might also feel comfortable in their pre-fitting A-/B-cup bras, they won't feel the need for a bra fitting and also may fall prey to letterphobia. After all, if your breasts appear small, how will you ever fill a D-cup bra?

Also read our article about the orange in a glass, since it's a common fit problem for owners of broad root breasts.
