In college, I wore a 36C, and I knew that wasn't right. I only knew that every time ... I got measured at Victoria's Secret, the fitters gave me different numbers.
In grad school, I had problem after problem with bras, mostly because I was trying to find one that would provide enough support while aerial dancing. Let's just say that you need a really good bra if you're swinging from a trapeze, and I had trouble finding one.
I finally got my first good fitting in Spring, 2011 and bought two bras in 32E and 34DD. Since then, I've been learning more about gore heights, wing heights, and leotard backs. I'm often comfortable in a 34 - 36E, but that's complicated, of course... From measuring, reading, analyzing photos, and trying on bras, I think/know that I have:
- relatively petite stature (I'm just under 5'4")
- broad shoulders
- short-waisted
- a dramatic taper from shoulder to waist (conical ribcage / v-shaped back)
- moderately close-set breasts
- moderately low-set breasts
- wide roots
- on this ABtF chart (http://i.imgur.com/zeP3dZF.png), somewhere between a 2/5 and 2/6 shape. Fuller on the bottom, though there's some top fullness too.
I've started knitting sweaters instead of buying them, and I wish that I could knit decent bras, too. Hah! I'm getting closer to finding my perfect bra, but the quest continues.
