Bra fitting help » It seems like the cups come up really high

Issue resolved
Smaller band and cups
Original problem
I know I need a 32 band for sure but those are hard to come by in these bras. The wires are perfect, and the cups seem to fit when I'm standing but when I sit down or lift my arms they gape and it seems like they come up really high for my shape. I'd like to find some bras that are better suited to my shape!

helpfulThe cups are too big. This is a demi style so they should be sitting a little lower than they are on you, which makes perfect sense since you say they gape. Right now because the cups are too big it's making this look like a full coverage style. You also have the straps pulled too tight, which again fits with the problem of too big a cup...a quick fix for this that a lot of women do is tightening the straps so the cup will fit. But it ends up giving an odd shape, can distort the cup over time, and leave your shoulders in some serious pain. This bra does come in 32DD, which I would recommend you try if you like this particular bra and still feel the cups fit. (I own 3 and they are quite comfy despite being a few band sizes too large.) It's hard to tell from this angle but the band looks like it does fit. Even though your ribcage is 31.5" a 34 might fit you better because these bras from VS, in my opinion run a little more snug in the band than other brands. In European brands you will most likely need a 32 because they do run bigger.
Take a look at the Angels demis I have on here. The cups are at the right level. (And I too have a 9" breast perimeter but fit better in the DD.)

helpfulUsing a contour cup makes it hard to see where your breasts are. But I can see that along the top, it is actually pulling down on your breasts. This may be because it is too large, or it may just be too shallow for you.
The band is definitely too big, so your breasts are able to escape from the cup, and then you get gaping.
You mention below that you have a lot of boob under your arm. You need a tighter band to keep that breast in the cup after you scoop it in.
In your picture, the cup on the left (or at least, the side opposite your tattoo) looks much bigger than the cup on the other side. Is that the case? Your boob doesn't look bigger, but the cup does.

helpfulFirst off, I'd try Panache if I were you, as your breasts seem to be further apart than, um, mine. Also, if you notice lots of gaping in a cup that otherwise seems to fit, then look at cups that aren't "full coverage" styles. Instead, look for plunges or balconettes.

Too, be prepared to try 32Es and 32Fs (UK sizing) as you refine your size.

Thanks! My breasts are wide set and some tissue is kindof in the armpit/side area. I seem to have gaping with most bras when I sit. I think I need a wide shallow cup to get a good fit. I'd love to find something that gave me some almost cleavage that wasn't just too narrow too. As far as the straps go, I can loosen them but still just feel like the cup goes up way too high. I do scoop and jiggle and it feels like I'm filling the bottom of the cup well and I like the width of the cup.

Chelsea, if you are getting gaping with bras only when you sit, it sounds like you are slumping when you sit down. Improving your posture will help correct that gaping.

Also, if you want to go down to 32 bands in Victoria's Secret, look at 28s in Freya and 30s in Panache/Cleo/Curvy Kate: http://bybabysrules.com/2012/01/26/d-cupsizes-why-you-do-not-add-four/

Like MyCurves suggested, it might just be a posture thing. When I slouch, even bras with too-small cups end up gaping.
Actually, I take that back on the Panaches. I can't tell if your breasts are set like that naturally, if it's the product of the bra (and years of wearing the wrong size). So if scooping and jiggling lead to your breasts feeling poked or uncomfortable in Panache bras, or if pinching the fabric between the cups makes it feel better, try Freya: they tend to be closer together. Curvy Kate is sort of in between, in my experience.
