Bra fitting help » Trying to figure out shape, size, and what bras will work for me

Issue resolved
try on different styles of bras that are more suited to my shape.
Original problem
I'm just starting out my journey. I did some measurements at home, but I think I must have screwed up when I did them the first time (because my band size was definitely too big.) These pictures are on the tightest hooks and I can still stretch the band a lot out with out much force at all, plus the center gore doesn't quite lay down. Also, I know that I'm not filling the cups in this. Shapewise, I think I have bottom heavy boobs (I'm just starting my journey though like I said, and I just know they don't look like Georgina's (fuller figure fuller bust), and I've had 3 babies and have fluctuated a lot with my weight. I'm going to post other bras on here right after I finish typing this out. I'm not having much luck anyhow with bras. I love how pretty this bra is, but I don't know if it will work for me in a different size or not because of my breast shape?

helpfulSoft full on bottom boobs and the Masquerade Rhea don't mix well. I also think your boobs might be too soft for halfcups and plunges in general, this is very common after 3 children.
When you start looking for a bra, it is important to order bras not by looks but by fit. There are a few beginner bras out there that run true to size and that fit a wide range of women reasonably well. By sticking to these models you can easily narrow down size and get a well-fitting bra relatively quickly. They also help you figure out breastshape (most women have no frame of reference and thus no clue about their breastshape in comparision with others).
These beginner models are:
-Panache Andorra Fullcup
-Panache Tango II Balconette
-Cleo Lucy
-the Cleo bras with the "Cleo George"-cut, see bratabase http://www.bratabase.com/browse/cleo/george-5131/
-Cleo Juna and the bras with the same cut, again see the entry
-Freya Tara/Zara/Ada/Beau/etc.
-Freya Arabella/Lyla/...
-Freya Polyanna and sisters except Faye
-Fantasie bras with Side-Support cuts
-Bestform Sophia
-Flirtelle Lucy
-Curvy Kate Princess
-Curvy Kate EmilyAs for t-shirt bras, try Fantasie Smoothing 4520 and Freya Deco Plunge and sisters, Curvy Kate Smoothie and Cleo Juna.
Note that Deco and Smoothie run large in the cup bc they require a lot of volume on top, it is also more difficult to determine whether a bra fits if it is padded.
BTW, for future reference you might want to take a look at these fit requests:

Those are the kind of pictures we need to help you. On your pictures above I cannot anything of importance. Wire width and side view are completely missing, so it is hard to see anything that you don't tell us.Updated on December 11, 2012 Flag this

Do you by any chance have any suggestions for a good strapless bra? I need one for this weekend and am kind of freaking out about it. I tried ordering the Fantasie - Smoothing Seamless Strapless Bra in a 30 F (the website I ordered said the cups were way too big so to order them smaller, and I was trying to do the whole add a size when you subtract a band size thing while keeping in mind that my rhea's cups seemed too big... although perhaps just fixing the band size would fix that too? I think I should have at least gone for a double FF though.) Anyhow I got my bra yesterday, and while I was able to hook it, I just barely was, so I think I'll be needing to stick to 32s in band size. Even so, that cup definitely was too small as well. This is so frustrating since I have to order everything. I wish there were stores around me where I could just try stuff on! No such luck for me though.

I added a couple new pictures. Ugh, I feel like the band looks tight, but it isn't tight at all.
-
Well, I think you are in the 30 FF/G range.
Note that by nature many strapless bras run tight in the band. So just bc you cannot do up a strapless bra in a 30 band with too small cups doesn't mean you need to stick to a 32 band. I think you need a 32 band with tight bands (some strapless, some sportsbras, some Ewa Michalak bras) and a 30 band with regular bras.
The Rhea is a bit too big, but not that much too big. A 30G would be the sister size of a 34F, one cupsize down would be a 30FF. So in a 32 band you need a 32F/FF.
Thanks to the additional pictures you posted I think that your breasts are indeed too soft for plunges and halfcups. Your breasts act like water in a plastic bag, they just flow everywhere.
This will also make it difficult to find a strapless that fits. Usually a very good strapless is the Wonderbra Ultimate Strapless, but your breasts are too soft for that.
There is nothing to it but try try try. A friend of mine found the strapless for her wedding dress on ebay, it was a cheap Marks&Spencers number she got out of sheer desperation bc everything else didn't work. Turned out to be a perfect fit.

helpfulFrom you measurment I think you should be wearing a 30 band, which you confirm with your descrption.
So, do a little experimemt - get someone to pull the bAand at the back for you so that you feel comfortable and supported and see what happens with the cups. I dont actually think you are that far off in cup size.
I would also like you to do this
http://brasandbodyimage.wordpress.com/2012/09/05/putting-your-bra-on-properly/You have soft breasts from nursing, not necceserily bottom heavy. This means you will ned higher gores like this one so you don't spill out in the middle - this means plunges won't work.
I would encourage you to try some unpadded balconettes. It is way easier to determin your boob shape and what you need in a bra in those

Thanks for the feedback!! I'll try to stick to stuff with the higher gores. I had heard of the scoop and swoop method, but actually seeing it (the video) was really helpful. Thanks!

After seeing this, I now think you are in a bra 2 bands two large and a cupsize or even two too small actually :) the spillage would be much worse if you were in a tighter band.
Now T_maia gave you quite a list, you really should give unpadded balconets a try and I think andorra may be your best bet. Id start with 30H/32gg n that one and go from there :) -

If you try fantasie, be aware that many of them have widely set straps. I too have narrow/sloping shoulders and have had to make some minor alterations to my Fantasie bras to keep them from slipping off my shoulders. Bras with straps that are sewn to the middle of the cup have the least wide-set straps, but the style might hard to fit for you (as it is for me). I also have water-bag boobs--thanks to t-maia for a perfect analogy!

helpfulHi artistmomto3 I'm mum of 3, my boobs are very soft too (and I'm still nursing). Im my personal experience the best bras are balconettes - I used to love Freya and Fauve unpadded bras, at the moment Cleo is my favourite.
The only half cup which works for me is HP/CHP style from Ewa Michalak.Updated on December 13, 2012 Flag this

can anyone tell what wrong i said????
-
I am pretty sure you are being downvoted for saying that the band is too tight, when in fact it is 5" bigger than her body + she says it is too big (on tightest hook, can be pulled out a lot) and the center-gore is not flat.
-
Agreed with hourglass. The band is definitely too big, not good or tight at all!
-
Yeah, it is so pretty, but I have a feeling t maia is right and it just isn't going to work for me with my shape. Boo!
-
It sure is very pretty, but in my experience t_maia is very much an expert here so I'd certainly try out (some of) the bras she suggested.
-
I didn't vote you down because I think that's a bit rude, but I
think your suggesting demis and plunges to someone with soft breasts is maybe even more off than your call on the band. But hay, we are all here to learn and lesson one is - what works for us, doesn't necceserily work for others :)
Don't let this get you down. I think it might even help if you put up some of your bras for fitting help, we can get to know eachoter better that way :) -
Vee ... thanks for ur positive response... i am really new here... so em learning and getting exp from you guys.....i hope soon i will be able to give some good tips after some time.... now i just want to give my comments to see if em right or wrong .....
-
That's a good way to look at it :) world of bra fiiting is trial, error and probability more than anything, it's just more or less educated guessing :)
And we are helping eachother to learn :)
So, if you look at the band you will see that it is on the tightest hook right from the start - this always means too big.
Apart from that, you can see how it arches up in the back? This is what we call "riding up". Ideally, band should stay in place no matter what you do, and when it climbes up your back higher like that it usually means the band is too big. Sometimes it happens also with very heavy boobs and straps tightened too much - so the weight of the boobs pull the band up. But this is not the case here.
As fir the cups, soft boobs usually need a bit more coverage and stable construction or they will spill everywhere :) but you can't know that if you don't own such pair or havent seen this before :)
This is why t_maia listed mostly unpadded balcony bras - they usually are a safe bet with this type of boobs. But that woman saw more tits than hugh hefner :D
Anyway, I do think you should put up a fit issue - this is the best way to learn. Also, from your profile picture that shows offnimpressive cleavage I kind of think it might be a bit too small for you :) -
Really..its more than the hit and trail....i was always poor in maths so didt make a good hit and trail mathod use...well its really riding up.... i didnt look towards this..... my concern was more about cup...
before nursing, my boobs was bit firm and having hard tissue...
but now em feeling that my skin is very dedicated now.... em wearing nursing bras all the time.... but when ever em wearing plunge or deco...i got some wrinkles...

Thanks for all the info and thanks for listing the beginner models! That will be very helpful I think! Sorry about the pictures. I was using my husband's ipad to take them (thinking it would be easier since it can go right online that way, but yeah, I'm too short for that. I wasn't getting very good pictures.) Next time I'll just use a regular camera which should help, or enlist in some help from my husband and get some better pictures for you all.
