Curvy Kate » Emily Balcony Bra (CK5001) » 28E 28:6
Issue resolved
I have a clearer picture on how it should fit, and agree that this cup is too small. Will be exchanging for 28FF instead. Thanks!
Original problem
Hello all,
This is my first Curvy Kate bra (Emily in 28E), so I have no idea how it should fit me even though I have read so many reviews. The bra seems to fit well on me overall, except there's spillage on the sides. Is it too small?
I'm still searching for my "true size", and as I have to order online for my size, it's a bit hard and takes a long time to get it right (I've only started to buy bras in the correct size after wearing 34C for the longest time ever). Masquerade Rhea (28F) fits me well, Gorgeous by Debenhams (30E) fits me well as well. Freya Jolie (28E) fits me in the cup at first, then gives me quadboob after 30 minutes. It also have side spillage like this one.
So can you guys help a girl out? Thanks in advance!

helpfulThis bra looks like it's one to two cup sizes too small on you. As the wires of Curvy Kate bras are quite strong and end quite low, the most common sign of them being too small is not wires not lying flat in the front...
In your case the wires are too narrow, which is why you have breast tissue escaping under the arm. The cup itself is probably too small as well. You can see that you get an odd angle where the cup ends and your bare breast begins, above the cup along the cup edge, that's because the cup is too small, so that this edge hits you lower than it should, and the cup apex (the deepest part) also hits you lower than it should.
A 28F or even a 28FF will probably be a much better fit. No escaping tissue under the arm and better lift and support and shape.
Rhea does in general run quite big in the cup, while Emily runs average to small, so I would probably expect you to wear a 28FF rather than a 28E in this one.

I'm just glad I could help. :) Please let us know how you get on with a larger cup size. :) At the moment I would say that this style probably suits you quite well, so if you manage to get the size right it could be really really good on you. :)
-
I'd definitely give you an update. It sucks when I couldn't try it on first before buying. I need to move to the UK pronto.
-
wow, I was gonna say 2-3 cups :)
And here I go with my antiCK campaign, but I think sizing up would give you a really crappy shape, so you should just skip their unpadded balconettes if you ask me ;) And give their showgirl range a shot though, as well as panache andora/jasmine and cleo's :)
Because you are deffinitly full on top, so yeah :) -
I agree with Vee, their showgirl range is to die for. I had one of each when I fit into their sizes and the coverage, shape, and cleavage I received from them--especially the tempt me--was quite amazing.
-
The reason why I'm saying 1-2 cup sizes and then suggest a 28FF is because these bras fit quite differently in the smaller half of the size range with a lot less coverage. I still strongly believe that this shape is good on you, if you're the right shape unpadded Curvy Kate bras are gorgeous, supportive and give a great shape. And come in so many fun colours. :) So, there is nothing wrong with the unpadded bras, as long as one fits in it.
Full on top breasts work great in the bras without a ribbon along the top edge. If they are shallow they might also look really good in those with ribbons, but that requires a very shallow shape.

I agree with everyone that it is definitely way too small. There's lots of spillage, but the cup also looks like it's squishing you because it's not deep enough.
You might want a 28FF or 28G :)Curvy Kate is known to run small, but I think you're bigger than a 28E in most brands.I used to make the mistake of ordering bras that were too small. I eventually started ordering sizes I thought would be too big, and had better success. Try ordering some 28G/GG's to start :)

Vee - Can you define crappy shape for me, please? I'm starting to like unpadded bras, and CK balconettes are just so pretty. I have my eye on Tease Me, but one thing that I need from my bra is that I have to be able to wear it under clothing without showing too much bumps. Rhea doesn't show much under clothing, which why I like it. Ahhhhh all the pretty bras are gonna burn not only a big whole in my pocket, but rather the whole pants!
izzy - You're not helping me in controlling my bra-shopping urge. ;P
nesoa - I guess we'll have to see! The seller said 28FF is in stock, so I will exchange it for that size. Gotta wait 10-14 days for me to get it though...boooo I need a portal.
CurvyCate - Thanks for the suggestions!

Crappy shape would be this
http://www.bratabase.com/troubleshoot/dhklk/
Deva has awsome boobs and look what a crappy bra does to them! A lot of big cup-small band ladies get this in curvy kate unpadded, it also can happen in some freya and bravissimos. The bras I suggested wont give you a shape like that for sure :) and i also forgot to mention deco , I think you are firm enough to pull it off even though i fear the band will be too big in 30. -
Ahh okay that is a crappy shape. :S Well, I guess we'll just have to wait and see...

helpfulForgive me if you've already done this, but have you scooped yourself into the bra? Here is a link if you haven't heard about it: http://brasandbodyimage.wordpress.com/2012/09/05/putting-your-bra-on-properly/
It looks to me like the cup is too small because the wires look like they're sitting on breast tissue. It may be migrated breast tissue from poorly fitting bras over the years. I think that scooping would help this, if it hasn't already been done. That's the only suggestion I can think of.

I've already scooped and jiggled into the bra, hehe. The centre gore lies flat on the sternum, are you talking about the wires on the side? (I'm sorry, my brain is really slow when trying to understand words.) Thank you for the suggestion anyway! :)

helpfulYes, I was also thinking about scooping on the sides, like Mikky.
Sounds like you've already scooped tissue from underneath your arms into the cups.
Anyway, it sure looks like it's sitting on breast tissue on the sides, which is commonly a sign of too small cups.
I do not know how much cups too small, so I happily refer you to the other suggestions for new bra sizes to tryUpdated on December 12, 2012 Flag this

Hehe yes I've already done those things, but thank you for your suggestion!

I thought so, but always good to make sure. I am no bra expert at all but I do want to help, so I try with what I do know and see, and read the other suggestions to get more knowledge myself :)

helpfulI somewhat agree with Nesoa.
Too me it looks as if the bra is not quite right for you. Yes, it is too small, but I am not convinced that the fit will be better in another size. The Emily is made for very round boobs, while yours seem to be shaped differently.
Your shape reminds me of the third shallow shape right next to the pink one in this article:
http://www.venusianglow.com/2012/09/small-breasts-with-broad-base.html
My recommendation to you would be to try the CurvyKate ThrillMe in addition to the CK Emily. With the CK ThrillMe you could fit the bottom half of your boobs and not worry about the top.

The shape of my boobs is another thing that I don't really get. I'm not really sure if it's shallow, close set, high or low on the chest, etc etc etc. I need an expert to see my naked boobs. Which is not gonna happen. Haha.
-
Acutally, it is not the shape of your naked boobs, but how they behave in a bra or how they would be like if gravity didn't exist. It also helps to visualise a horizontal line through your boobs and look at the botttom half and the top half seperately. Reading bra blogs and looking at the pics on bratabase also helps.

Hmm yeah. I have been following a few bra blogs for the past few weeks. Thank you, t_maia!

Thank you so much for your suggestion! I have a clearer picture now on how it should fit. I'll try getting a bigger cup and see how it fits. Thanks again!
