Flirtelle » Lucy Balconette Bra (FL1101) » 38GG 38:10
I'm trying to find a starting point for my "right size." There are a few problems with this bra, which I have in both 38G (http://www.bratabase.com/browse/flirtelle/lucy-fl1101/38G/) and the 38GG. For both, the band is too big. Should I go down one band size or two based on the picture? Second, the bottom of the band rolls up, which happens on nearly every bra I own. Is this also due to large a band? Third, I have a problem with the cups. In the 38G, I had excessive quad-boob, yet in the 38GG, I have a lot of wrinkling. Overall, I think the cup of the 38GG is a better size for me, but maybe the cut of the bra just doesn't work with my boobs. Does the Panache Andorra I tried in 36H (http://www.bratabase.com/bra/dhm8p/) seem to fit better/right?

helpfulDo you know how it is with jeans? Some fit you in one size, some in another size and on others the fit is so off for your bodyshape that you cannot determine what would have been the correct size. It is the same with bras.
I think the Flirtelle Lucy will never fit you quite right. The way I see it, the bottom cup is too small for you. If you go up in cupsize to get the right size in the bottom cup, the upper cup gets too large. This is a very frequent problem with Flirtelle and Curvy Kate. I have very much the same problem with those two brands.
What you can do is try to shorten the straps on the 38GG and see whether it gets better.
Regarding the 36H Andorra: this bra usually fits better one cupsize up from your regular size. I took a look at the pictures and it is ok, but on the brink of too small.
Sadly you have choosen to not to display your measurements, so I cannot say whether you might be better off in a 38GG or a 36H or whether the size is completely off.
My recommendation to you would be to try the Elomi Caitlyn and the Goddess Keira as well as the Masquerade Persia. Some Fantasie bras like the Fantasie Kara (currently cheap on ebay) would probably also work well.

Size is alright, not too far off. But I think you might do better with a 36H as your base size.
With a wide root you'll be best off in Panache, Elomi and Goddess. Especially Elomi and Goddess were particularly designed for large band and large cup combos and it shows in the construction.

helpfulHi!
I actually took a look at a few of your other pics of this bra, and I do have to wonder if the 38 is actually too tight on you. It is cutting in a lot on your back. A 40 or 42 might actually be better on your body, and could probably keep the band from rolling up.
However, if you are like me and are short waisted/high hipped, no matter what size bra I try, the bottom of my bands always flip because I need a thicker band (think thicker like Lane Bryant's bras have up to 5 rows of hook and eyes which gets along with my body better). For me, only having three hooks and a thinner band just does not work with my body.
If you find that you need a 38 for support, then stick with that. But I am curious to know what your actual measurements are.
In terms of cup size, it looks like you have a bit of an "orange in the glass" kind of look - meaning that the cup is too shallow for you, and you need more depth in the cups. There's a lot of space in the bottom of your cup. Frankly, this is more bra shape than anything to do with you. I don't think that Flirtelle/Curvy Kate is going to be a very good brand for you.
It doesn't look like you have a lot of migrated tissue (though maybe some), so you might be okay trying brands with narrower wires like Panache and Ewa Michalak.
However, I would say that you should go up at least one band size, and down however many cup sizes you need. **What I mean to say is down however many cup sizes AFTER you go up the cup to get this bra to fit you.
Again, it would be most helpful to know what your measurements are!

Thank you for your help! Perhaps the band is too small, but the trouble is it rides up and doesn't feel very supportive. I am between a 36 and a 38, so perhaps it is just the band on each particular bra? I tried on a 36 Panache Andorra and I think it fit me better, so Panache seems like a brand that will do me well. Again, thank you!

It's possible you could go either way. I know that in my experience, it is harder to tell if my band fits the right way because my spine is curved and I am squishy. When we are squishy, the band does not anchor as well, and there has to be the right balance of tension in the band on the body.
Once you go up a few cup sizes, the 38 and 36 will probably feel very different and you will have to go from there to determine band size.

Thanks for the fittng advice!

helpfulI have this bra and I had to shorten the straps a lot, before it fit and still the underwires on each side folded on top of each other. It seems to be made for someone who is widely set and fuller at the top (than at least I am).

helpfulBands on me ALWAYS flip up, it's from being short waisted in my world. The bottom of my rib cage is under 1/2" from the top of my pelvis.
Too large bands actually cut in a lot more than too small bands on me. They were fighting to get a grip, so dig in.
CK and Flirtelle bands are always stretch prone on me, so I'd try a 34, but going to HH cup. Then, yank those straps TIGHT. My Lucy has the adjuster part sitting just below my collarbone. It gives me a nice, round shape then. I loosen them up, yuck.

Thank you for your help! I will definitely check out those styles. I updated the fitting help request to add my measurements. What would you say as to size? Again, thank you!
