Bra fitting help » Band too big / cups too small? Which size should I try??
Curvy Kate » Tease Me Padded Bra (SG2001) » 32H 32:11
Issue resolved
I will take in the band of this bra.
Original problem
I bought this bra when I used to wear mostly 32 bands.
The band feels too lose, I can easily pull it more than 2 inches away from my body. It does not feel supportive at all (never had)and if I don't tighten the straps shortest I don't get much uplift. I think I need a smaller band in this one.
Which Size should I try?
Current measurements: 29.5-30 / 42-42.5

helpfulThis bra is notorious for being loose in the band, I would suggest trying a 30HH and a 28J in comparision.
However, the problem with going down to a 28J in this bra is that this will make the cups and the wires even wider, the tighter band will pull the cups flat and you might spill out on top of the cup despite the cup being the right size.
My suggestion to you would to be - instead of buing new - to try to save this bra. Take in the band or somehow stabilise the band by sewing some non-elastic fabric onto the band.

Considering the problems you describe with the 30J below - 30J doesn't seem to be the answer.
Regarding the quadboob in 30HH and 32H: Sounds like you are in in-between cupsizes. My suggestion would be to experiment with different brands and models in 32H and 30HH, focusing on the 30HH. Cups can run large or small and a cup can cut in and give you quadboob if it is not the right shape for you.
You should also note the day of your menstrual cycle when try on bras. Bevore ovulation breasts can be 1-2 cupsizes smaller than right before the period.
-
BTW, getting quadboob in a halfcup when you bend over can also be related to the firmness of your breast tissue. I got very soft breasts, I have trouble with halfcups and plunges because my breasts tend to flow right of the cup. I get mega-quadboob despite the bra being the right size.

I have ordered a few different bras from freya, cleo and panache in different sizes and will add some pictures soon. I'm still new to proper bra fitting and therefore still insecure. I know the basics and have read a lot of blogs, but it is more diffidult than I thought. With every bra that does not fit, I knew more about what to avoid when buying bras.
I think I might have the same problem with halfcups and plunge bras. For example I owm the Freya Deco in 32GG and the cups size seems right but the center gore will not lie flat against the sternum and my boobs are always "falling out" = quadboob. -
Don't give up. Logic dictates that since there are so many different breastshapes there are many different bra shapes. Thus there are always more bras that don't fit than bras that do fit. Only way to find out is to try them on. I don't want to scare you, but it is not unusual for a woman to try on 50 bras in her right size until she finds one that fits reasonably well.
If you go about this a bit systematically you'll quickly get the hang of it. Most importantly - document the bras you tried in some way. Write down brand, model, size and what didn't fit you. Bratabase is an excellent tool for it, but in a pinch a piece of paper and a pen will do. When you ask for fitting help, please make this list available to us so that we do not waste time suggesting bras you have already tried. :)

helpfulYou're right, that band is way too big. You need to go down at least one size (30HH), possible two (28I). I'd suggest ordering both, and returning the one that doesn't fit.

helpfulI have this one too, and yes, it is very loose in the band! You measure more like a 30 band but say you prefer 32's, so do you prefer a not too tight band? In that case, 30HH would probably be preferred over a 28J, which would probably fit you quite well too.
When I originally bought this, I got it in both 34H and 36GG, and I don't think there is much difference in the width of the cups from changing just one size.Updated on August 16, 2012 Flag this

No, I do not prefer a loose band. But I got fitted a 3 months ago (after years of wearing the wrong size) in a 32 GG / H so I thought that is my size. But then my new bras also started to cause problems and then I searched in the internet for help. (I wont go to that store again, because they only carry sizes until H-Cup)
If I try 32 bands, they are often too large, ride up in the back and don’t offer much support. The straps dig into my shoulders. I wear all my 32 bras in the tightest hook.
If I try a 30HH (sister size to 32H), they are tight enough. But the thighter band makes the cups flatter and the wires wider and there is some major quadraboob therefore I need a bigger cupsize. So I went from a 32H to a 30HH (cups slightly too small, quadraboob) to a 30J (cups too big, wires to wide, don’t offer much support either, and because of the empty fabric at the top of the cup I have to tighten straps and then the band starts riding up, the straps cut into my shoulders and suddenly the band feels “too big”!)
So I found out (thanks to bratabase) that a 30J obviously does not work for me either.
What shall I do??
I thought of: buying 32 bras in which the band is known for being tight and don’t stretch too much.
Or trying different bras with a 30 band? (perhaps I tried the wrong ones) I need some with smaller wires.
Or trying 30HH again? -
I meant: 30J in a different bra does not fit. I haven't tried the tease me in 30J so far.

If you need narrow wires I would definitely stick with the 32H. It is an often used trick to get narrower wires to use the sister size. Say you really need a 30HH, but the wires are way to wide on you in that size. You might elect to wear a 34G with the band stabilized in order to get the wire width you need. A bigger band and a smaller cup means narrower wires. Wires that fit are essential to the stability of a bra, if you got perfectly fitting wires and the right cupshape the bra will feel stable and supportive despite the band being too loose.
-
Forgot to add: pictures/description of the other bra in 30J might be helpful. It might be an issue of cupshape.
-
I second t maia about this maybe just being the wrong cup shape. IME I require narrow underwires as well and have had no luck with Curvy Kate/Flirtelle in this regard. Their bras are so pretty but while the cup will fit in the front, the wires on the side are obviously too far in my armpit, digging in and causing pain.
-
i'm not sure if I need narrower wires or if it was a problem of the wrong size in this particular case:
http://www.bratabase.com/troubleshoot/dhn4n/I compared the wires of my Curvy Kate bras to Panache / Cleo / Freya bras and they seem to be wider. I really can't fit into my Curvy Kate bras in 30J and also the 30HH is not a really good fit.
-
On the pictures of the Cleo Lucy in 30J the wires definitely look to be too wide. I might need wires as wide as this, but I have found that a breastshape like mine is relatively rare.

helpfulI only tried them in shop and they are indeed ridiculously elastic. I'm not sure if it's because they are loose (as big in size) or simply too elastic, I could drag it away even further than you on that photo. Also I read that Tease Me/ Thrill Me are supposed to be 'bedroom bras', so maybe they are meant to be less supportive but for example leave less marks?
Anyway, it seem to fit pretty well in the cups so I agree that altering the band may be the best idea.

Those bras are really pretty and comfy. I will wear this bra at home :) Its sad they are not as supportive since it is difficult finding padded bras in my size, and I really wanted to find one that fits me well to wear everyday.
-
They are indeed very pretty.:)
Hm, I guess you could try padded bras from Panache or Ewa Michalak. In my experience Panache bras are pretty elastic (but less than Curvy Kate) and wider wired and I heard that Ewa Michalak's bras are pretty snug and medium wired.
-
Ewa Michalak has very narrow wires in the larger cup sizes, the only company that makes even narrower wires than EM is Comexim.
Fantasie has medium-wide wires.
If you are interested in decently constructed halfcups in 30HH check out Bravissimo.
-
I haven't tried yet any Ewa Michalak Bras, because their sizing system confuses me. (the calculator on their page puts me in a 75G, I don't think that will fit)
Bravissimo does not accept paypal and I don't have a credit card, so sadly its not an option for me. -
A friend of mine wears 32F with Freya, she could wear a 30 band measurement-wise, but is a singer and prefers slightly loose bands. With Ewa Michalak she wears a 75DD. So the 75G and maybe 75GG sounds about right for you if you normally wear a 30HH/32H.
-
Yes I will try to save it. But I think the sister sizes 28J or 30HH might also be too small, since I have some quadraboob in the 32H If I move around and bend over. Should I try a 30J?
