Freya » Deco Hatty Moulded Plunge Bra (1281) » 36E 36:6
Issue resolved
I do believe the plunge style is probably wrong for me. I've ordered the Freya deco half-cup in a 36F (since if I scoop and swoop in the deco Hatty I'm getting definite quadboob, so jumping up a size is probably a good thing. Hopefully, the more balconette type style will work better for me.
Original problem
After years of thinking I was a 36 C/D and bemoaning the fact that bras never seemed to fit me, I finally shunned the department store and went to a specialty bra store for a fitting.
I thought I had a good fit while I was in the store trying the bras on, but I guess I didn't scoop and swoop properly, or wear the bra long enough, because my first day wearing it, it wasn't comfortable. There's a lot of sideboob going on, and the entire area around the underarm feels overly tight, even though the band seems fine, if possibly a touch too loose. I'm not sure the underwires come up high enough on the sides, either, because my breasts don't stay in place while I wear the bra.
I don't know if it's my ribcage or the bra, because I've experienced this with other bras, but the wire tends to shift down in the front and sit a fair bit lower than the actual root of my breast.
I'm not sure what this says about cup size, but when I sit or stand with proper posture, the cups seem full, even maybe overflowing a bit on the larger side, but as soon as I roll my shoulders forward, they start to gap on the top. Nothing that's noticeable in a shirt, but I'm not sure what to make of it.

helpfulI agree with Deedit somewhat.
I agree that the wires are too narrow and that going up in cupsize might fix that.
However I think the style is just wrong for you. Your breast tissue spread out all over your ribcage, compared to the area your root covers you do not have a lot of projection. I would say that you need wide wires and shallow cups.
Freya however is known for having narrow wires and deep cups, especially in plunge styles (padded and unpadded) and the smaller sizes below G.
In addition to that the Freya Deco (and sister cuts) is a plunge-bra, this type of bra rarely works well on shallow, widespread breasts.
My recommendation would by to try bras by Cleo by Panache and if you are in the US Parfait by Affinitas. I can especially recommend the Cleo Juna and related cuts (Sadie, Martha, Darcy...) and the Parfait Charlotte. Those two bras are halfcups, a shape that generally works well on a breastshape like yours. The padded halfcups by Freya might also work, those are cut differently to other Freya bras.
I would try those bras in 36E. With a ribcage of 91 cms I would not go down to a 34 band, that might be quite painful and the tight band might negatively affect the fit of the bra.

helpfulI've seen this before! The Deco style shows fit a little differently than other bras and it tripped me up too at first. This is why I have a Crystal that is a cup too small, just like I believe yours is. It's showing the same issues right down to the cup pulling away on the larger boob.
The key to all of this that the underwire is cutting into breast tissue on the side. I definitely recommend going at least a cup up, possibly even two.

helpfulDeco styles tend to be big in the band, and it looks like the bra itself is small in the cup. I would try a 34F or FF and see how that fits in comparison.

helpfulI have the weird gaping thing at the top of my Deco bra! The bra looks fine as long as I am not rolling my shoulders forward or sitting down in a slouchier position. But, if I do either of these things, that bra gaps like nobody's business. I ordered a cup size down. I will let you know if that helps. I just have this awful suspicion though that it wont. I think this might be a molded cup issue.

I don't think ordering a cup size down will help, because when I take the bra off after wearing it, I can see where the underwire was sitting and it's clearly on breast tissue. I think that for both of us, a lower cup size would only make things worse. I'm thinking this may be more of a style issue, as t_maia said.

You are right, I shouldn't have even brought that one up, because (1) my boobs are not your boobs and (2) I thought my Deco was too big, and I think yours looks a bit too small. I found it interesting that you still had gaping and am starting to question my own judgment on the fit of mine.

You're right, your gaping might be a cup size issue (since we don't have the same boobs and our fit issues may well be different!) I hope you find the right size.

Thanks, I hope you do too.

helpfulI agree with what maia said, I just wanted to add that the deco is notorious for having a loose band. I've basically outgrown 28 bands but I can still wear my 28FF deco. So, a lot of times people will order a band size down in this bra. I can't quite tell if you should or not; it seems like it might be riding up in the back but I can't tell. If you plan on exchanging this bra for a hatty in a different size, I would try on a 34FF if you can. The 36F will probably be ok, but it's worth a try, right?

Thanks! I will try ordering one of the Cleo bras to see if that fits better.
