Bra fitting help » Cleo Lucy 30g - how many cup sizes too big?
Cleo » Lucy Balconnet Bra (5851) » 30G 30:9
Issue resolved
Not sure what size I need. But I have some options for what to try.
Thanks!
Original problem
In order to make this bra give any support I have to shorten the straps a ton, too much.
*update* I have included pictures to show how big the cups are. I can fit 2 or 3 fingers perpendicular between my boobs and the fabric.
I almost feel like I should go down a band size as I wear it (semi comfortably) on the tightest hook to get enough support.
*update* But I realize the support issue would change if the cups were the correct size. Can't return it. What are your expert opinions on what size I should try for?

helpfulYou're not getting enough support because the cup is too big, not because the band is not tight enough. Too big a cup also lets you wear a bra on the tightest hook because part of the fabric from the cups stand for a band, which is too small, not too big. Try 32F next time (or maybe even 32E), I'm sure it'll fit much better.
Also, I would give up on this bra if you have narrow shoulders, look how wide set they are already (with a tighter band they will go even further).Updated on February 28, 2013 Flag this

I do have narrow shoulders, so almost every bra is too wide :)
Would not the straps be too wide if the cup was too big regardless of whether it was aa 28, 30 or 32 band?? -
I currently have no with the band.. It doess feel much more loosee after some wear. But yes, the main issue is definitely too big in the cups.
-
I also have narrow shoulders and straps in Cleo Lucy were too wide for me too, even in the correct size. In corresponding sizes the straps should be set similarly regardless of the band size, but the tighter band pulls them , therefore they dig in more painfully.
As to the band size - remember that the tighter the band you choose the sooner it will stretch out and become unwearable. The band should be stable but comfortable (of course, it shouldn't be too loose either). The new pictures show that you should definitely size up in the band (the hook&eye part is deformed), 32 for sure, maybe even 34 with tighter brands.
As to the cup size - it may be that the bra is two cups too big, with a looser band there will be even more space in the cups, but it's hard to say, you must try :)
Hope this was helpful :)

helpfulIMO you shuld try 32f - it will be the best solution.
Cup are too wide, because 1) are too big ald 2) band is too tight - on your back (under hooks) it is a crinkle/ruck... this ruck proof, that band is definitly too tight. I'm sure, trust me. Thight band pull bones and deform cups.
Band 28 is very bad idea.

I had the band pulled that tight to show that that's the only way I get support in the cups

Correct me if I'm wrong... My understanding is that if you start with a band that is an inch or more too big it will not only fail to support you right from the start but it will rapidly get worse. A 32 band is larger than my ribcage measurement of 30.5-31".
-
32 is only a size, not a bra measurement. My ribcage measurement is less then 27 inches and I'm usually choosing 30 bands, sometimes even 32 when it feels more comfortable. And I'm getting enough support, wear them on the loosest hooks and the bands are not riding up. Moreover, literally none of my bras stretched out, even after months of wear. I don't remember trying on 28 band recently, the last time must've been ages ago. Bands are really not as stretchy now as they used to be, so there is no need to size down as much as earlier.
Of course, if the band is too loose it won't give you enough support, but I wouldn't say it will stretch fast - there is no pressure put to it ;) As I said previously it is, paradoxically, the tight band which will stretch faster, as it needs to 'endure' more. So neither too loose nor too tight band is good, the band should be just right :) -
Okay, that's what I was wondering! I figured I wouldn't get any support from a 32 band. But I guess I was just thinking one dimensionally.
I will definitely be open to 32 bands now.

helpfulThe band looks too small (aspecially on the pic of your back, where you have your hands raised). It looks like it's so small that you shouldn't be able to take a really deep breath. It looks almost painful and 28 would most probably cut you in half - sorry...
The cup is too big - that's true. And that's why you don't feel the support you need. The narrow band pulls the underwires which act like a part of the band (and usually the fabric on the cups is a bit more stretchy than the one on the band).
I see you have ~79cm in the ribcage measurement field - I've got 78cm and I would never even try a 30, because it would hurt me too much.
I agree with AgnieszkaNowak and austenlady that 32F would be better - the cup size should be right and they would give you the right support and also the band wouldn't stretch the narrower underwires so much and the band shouldn't actually seem so loose for you.Offtop - I don't understand why girls in the UK persistently squeeze themselves in such tight bands... It's not comfortable, it leaves red marks on your body and a slightly wider band (just as wide to let you breathe deep but nut as loose to go up between your shoulderblades) wouldn't give you less support if the cup is in a right size

It actually isn't painful or difficult to breath on any of the hooks :) The skin/fat in those areas is very squishy. lol (31" is a loose measurement, 30" is tight, but not too tight that I can't breathe)
Thanks for all your help ladies.
-
I understand - it just looks that way ;) And I know a lot about the squishiness of that fat, because I have some as well, but even when I had 74cm (29") under my breasts I wouldn't even think about getting a 28 and had only one 30, which was kinda loose from the very beginning - rest was 32 :)
Here in Poland we have slightly different sizing system - 30 is 65, 32 is 70, 34 is 75 and so on, and so on. Where acutally 30" is ~75cm (I know it's 76,2 - but let's stay with 75 just for this example :)), 32" is ~80cm and so on.
We were being taught that when we a tight measurement of 76cm underneath our boobies, we should round it to 75 and extract 10cm which gives us 65 in Polish size and 30 in UK size. But nowadays we don't lower that measurement so much, because it's not necessarry for the band to cut us in half for us to get support from it :)Try with a 32F, really :)

helpfulI would say a cup size too big. MAYBE two. I would sell the bra on Bratabase and use the funds to try a new size. I would say you would need a 28 band only in this model though as all can be different, even within the same brands.

So try a 28Ff or 28G? Or am I doing my math wrong...
-
28F/FF might work.

helpfulThis bra stretches to 10 cm more than your ribcage, which means that yes, it is too big. I think that a 30-band in general will be good on you, but in this case a 28 is probably better. Beware though that some colours/versions of Lucy runs tighter, so you might end up needing an extender to start with, but on the other hand, starting of with an extender is better than wearing a too big band.
As the band is too big the cups will appear deeper and bigger than they really are. You might actually be able to wear a 28GG, which has the same cup volume as this one only with a tighter band.
However, if you feel that the cups are definitly too big then a cup size down might be good. If so, try a 28G, which is a cup size down and a band size down from what you have here, a 30G.
I definitly think that a 28FF will be too small, it is not much extra space at all in these cups.

The cups are definitely too big in general. At least 1 cup size.
I do have this bra listed.. Hoping I sell it to get a better size -
How do you find the cups if you pull the back tight with one hand? I didn't say that the cups wasn't too big, but I don't think they are much too big. Look at the big picture here in your fit request, on the left side in the picture it looks like a perfect fit, though it is slightly too big on the right. You should always fit on the larger side. In the profile there is some slight looseness in the top of the cup but still not much despite the band being too big. The too big band will make the cup appear about half a cup size larger than it really is...
-
The cups are too big even when I pull the band as tight as I can. I added pictures to show how big the cups are. The fabric clings to my skin, so the first pictures didn't show clearly.
-
Even in these pictures I really don't think you need to size down more than one cup size. Honestly. A cup size is more than one thinks and even if it's just one cup size too big it still tends to feel like the cups are half empty..
-
I really think you haven't swooped and scooped properly. You see that "fat" near your armpits? I think it should be contained inside the cups.
-
Maybe I am not understanding the swoop and scoop. I swoop as much as I can to the front. I don't understand how you can move everything to your bra. I honestly feel like I just have more fat in the armpit area.
-
Can you show me a before and after picture of someone with the same issue? I could very well just be doing it wrong, or have serious fit issues with every bra I own.

I've got 74 cm under the bust and Lucy in band 30 was way too tight. I know, everybody likes different tightness of the band but band 28 will be too small. With 78cm under the bust (is it loose or tight measurement?) I would try band 32 or even 34 (if 78cm is a tight measurement).
