Bra fitting help » Is there any hope for Curvy Kate and me?
Curvy Kate » Portia Balcony Bra (CK4001) » 34J 34:13
Issue resolved
I ended up trying and keeping a 36JJ. It's not perfect, but fits better.
Original problem
This is my first try with curvy kate unpadded and we were not friends. The wires were way shorter than I'd like, but more importantly super narrow. I couldn't get the cup pulled up quite all the way because my root is much wider than this bra allows -ideally I might want the wire more where that prominent seam on the band is if not further. The gore did tack pretty nicely, and at first I didn't notice any quadboob, but I think there was a bit on the larger breast. I also got the weird squarish pointy shape I've seen ck give.
I really like the aesthetic of this bra, but I don't want to waste time on another if you think it's too much of a shape incompatibility. Would you size up or give up? (and if so how much?)

helpfulI'd say try a 36J and a 36JJ. The square shape comes from the cups being too small--it won't give that shape when it's the right cup size.
A bigger band will also allow for longer underwires because they won't be stretched flat, so that should also help some of your issues.Updated on February 6, 2013 Flag this

helpfulThe bra is too small for you, at the very least the bottom cup is.
I suspect you either need a bigger cup or another cut.
Do you have some other fit requests or pictures? I'd like to see more bras on you to get a better idea of how your breasts behave in different bras. (Pics of the Panache Tango would help.)
Since the wires of CK in 34J are too narrow for you, I think you are going to love Elomi and Goddess. If you like the colourway of the Portia in the picture, check out the new mint-pink of the Elomi Valentina. This bra might not be the best fit on you though. I think you are really going to like the Elomi Caitlyn, the Elomi Libby and the Elomi Tamarie.
If you want to go on trying Curvy Kate, I would suggest you try the CK Emily.
The puckering of the band that you show is an indication that the band is too tight - it is ripping at the seams. I think you might be better off in a 36 band, this matches your underbust of 91 cms far better.

I was just wondering if you got a chance to take a look at my other pictures? I'd love to hear any thoughts. I've also since added pictures of the 36HH ariza here http://www.bratabase.com/browse/panache/superbra-ariza-5051/36HH/?system=UK# and the elomi suzie here http://www.bratabase.com/browse/elomi/suzie-8090/36HH/?system=UK

The Ariza in 36HH looks very good. The quadboob on the Suzie - I am not surprised, this bra seems to give everybody quadboob. The Elomi Valentina is supposed to be better, but I am not holding my breath.
The Rhea is too shallow and the wrong shape.
The Cleo Alexa in 34H looks good, but I think the wires are pulled flat bc the band is a bit too tight.Roccoco Charm - I look the same in that bra. Maybe give up on halfcups, I think your breasts are a bit too soft for this style.
Looking forward to you trying more Panache and Elomi.

helpfulI would have to agree with the other commenters.
I've found that the Portia is a tough mistress. Because of the cup shape and the ribbon at the top, the cup is less forgiving. To get a good shape, you really have to size up in the cup.
Have you tried the Panache Andorra?? I think a 36J would look fab on you.
Also, in terms of Elomi, I think you might like the Valentina, Libby (really wide wires), and the Abby I'd suggest starting with a 36H/HH for Elomi bras, as they run generous in the cups.

Thanks for the input! I tried a too small 34H Andorra back when I was still figuring out how much I needed to size up/remigrating, and I wasn't too happy with hoe stretchy the wires were, and low. I also found the 34 band on the looser side in that bra.
I just got a libby in 36HH, and it's okayyy, but the wires are SO weak and distort super easily, and I can't get it to settle quite at my root. I was sad because it's said to be like the Caitlyn with a lower gore, which works well for me, but it definitely had weaker wires. The abi had the same problem when I tried it. I also got a 36HH betty which isn't ideal but I love the look of. not quadbooby as the suzie, but Orange in a glass for sure, and the cups want my boobs to sit further apart than they do. But a 36 band in elomi is definitely too big, I'm having to go to tight hooks straight away to feel comfortable, and the 34HH betty felt great in the band if not the cup.
Sorry, that was probably way more information than you were interested in. :p Thanks for commenting, though!

helpfulHi,
Would like to add our opinion. If you like this bra, then go for it but as you already know, its not a good size. Maybe 1 or 2 cups up and the band size a bit bigger. The fifth picture you submitted, the whole outline of the bra is indenting your body. Over time it will be like a ring on the finger after you take off the ring you will still see that indentation.
1 to 2 cups bigger because the cups look just right now, or even too small. But want to also add that the migrated tissue is moved to your upper arms, lower torso and probably your back. Please don't mistaken your upper arms as big because I'm guessing your lower arms are much slimmer than your upper arms.
A bra will not reverse migrated breast tissue in those area, but it can prevent it from getting worse. Other products can reverse that.
Thanks for listening.

Thanks for the feedback! I'm curious how you would avoid indenting in the body, because because I'm fat, even larger bands will squish in if they have any tension at all.
In regards to the migrated tissue, I definitely agrees that I have plenty (I was wearing 38Ds until 6 months ago), but it seems to me you're pretty readily pointing out any body fat as migrated breast tissue? It's true that my upper arms are bigger than my lower arms, but similarly it's true that my thighs are bigger than my calves, and it's a place I've always had a tendency to store fat. Don't get me wrong, I'm happy to see you making people aware of migrated tissue, and I appreciate you taking the time to look at my case, but I'm a little concerned about overzealousness in deciding any body fat must be boobs rather than just fat. What do you see that makes you think it's one and not the other?
Thanks. :) -
Hi,
Thanks for taking the time to reply, please look at your second picture, the picture doesn't show your lower arms. There was a judgement to make if I should mention the upper arm theory, but I went ahead with the suggestion since I want other people to aware that if the upper arms and the lower arms are not proportionate, meaning the upper arms are a lot bigger than the lower arms, that means that the migrated tissue has indeed went into the upper arms and became part of the fat.
We apologize for the quick judgement but we just want to highlight this has a possible theory. Hope you understand. In our experience, we try to keep our mind open for everything, that is why we do not draw a fine line between normal fat or breast fat since both can be blended together. Think of it this way, if we can make tissue, no matter if it's body tissue or migrated breast tissue go towards the cups making your overall body shape slimmer, does it really matter which tissue it is?
Thanks for listening. We actually really are appreciated in everyone's reply to us which means you guys are interested in what we are saying, positive or negative. :)

Adding to that, you have really inspired us writing about migrated breast tissue, replying to your comment has made is feel that it doesn't matter if that is migrated tissue or normal body fat tissue. As long as that tissue can be moved to places where it can make the over body shape look better and slimmer with no harm done to the wearer's health, we shouldn't try so hard to distinguish body tissue. :)

Thanks for the feedback! I have a few pictures up, though your asking shows me how remiss I've been in actually getting pictures up - I'll try to do some more tonight.
You can see me in a Juna 34H here, though that was a while ago and I'm since quadding in it. http://www.bratabase.com/browse/cleo/juna-6461/34H/?system=UK#
I'm the one in the blue rhea here http://www.bratabase.com/browse/masquerade/rhea-6121/34H/?system=UK#
Rococo charm here http://www.bratabase.com/browse/bravissimo/rococo-charm-sb19/34H/?system=UK
Alexa here http://www.bratabase.com/browse/cleo/alexa-6631/34H/?system=UK#
And a mademoiselle fit request here http://www.bratabase.com/troubleshoot/dhmqn/
I'm aware that most of those fit badly so it's not as helpful, sorry.
I don't have any pictures yet of the 36HH ariza and 34HH Caitlyn that I would call my best fitting at the moment.
I don't have pics of the tango because it was just my best memory of a quick fitting room try - I actually hated it on; it gave my breasts a very unnatural squarish pointiness, and was wideset and east-west.
With the Caitlyn, it is a fairly comfortable fit, although the wires are too short on the sides for me. I've just struggled with elomi because I'm 22 and the high coverage, usually satiny look is just really not me, though I know I'm running low on other options.
As for band size, I started in 36s, but really just dont feel very secure in them, and the band doesn't stay put as much as I'd like. (with the exception of ariza.) I actually measure, let me convert... 93.98cm lightly touching while exhaled, 90.17cm my best estimate of firmly, and about 81.2cm as tight as I could get the tape and read by myself, last I did this. I think I was also about 121.92cm bending, 119.38cm lying down and about the same standing, as best as I could tell. (since I've seen you ask for that)
Thanks again!
