Bra fitting help » 30D T-shirt bra hunt - what to try next?
Freya » Deco Moulded Plunge Bra (4234) » 30D 30:4
Issue resolved
Seems I need to be looking at size 28E's.
Original problem
I have recently been re-fitted at Intimacy and Nordstrom to a 30D or DD from a 32B, and am hunting for a good basic T-shirt bra that fits and is comfortable. Have been trying a bunch of different stuff but no luck yet. My skin is very sensitive to a lot of the lace, trim, and sometimes even stitching on bras, so I have been running around in Spanx bras that are too big around and pull up in back all the time, but at least don't irritate my skin.
What I've tried:
1. Cleo Juna was too small in the cup on my larger side, but I'm not sure I liked it enough to try the 30DD anyway.
2. I also purchased a Chantelle Rive Gauche in 30DD at Intimacy, but will be returning due to itchy lace and a little bit of gapping at the top.
3. The Marie Jo Tom bra in 30D seems to fit well and worked all day long, but the trim on the straps rubbed raw spots on top of my shoulders. Will see if I can soak it and soften it up at all.
4. I loved the Felina Papillon demi spacer bra in 32C (just uploaded pics) but the band is too big and it doesn't come in a 30.
5. The Maidenform Dream push-up 32C is a decent fit and super comfortable, but again a bit too big in the band.Having read a bunch of threads and reviews on this site and others, I doubted that the Freya Deco would work for my wide/shallow shape, but I found it on sale and decided to give it a try. Probably no one here will be surprised to see that it is gapping a lot at the top.
I know that the plunge shape is generally bad for my shape, but I guess I wanted to see if you think the Deco half-cup or the other Freya padded half-cups might work for me... that is what I was thinking of trying next. Also if the 30D would be the right size to try in that one. Any other ideas for bras to try would be welcome too! I gather that the Panache Porcelain would be a bad idea because of the plunge shape.

helpfulThe Rive Gauche might not itch after it's been washed a couple of times. Also, if it gaps a little now, and you haven't been wearing the right bras before, you might find after scooping and swooping that you fill it and the gaps disappear. However, you won't be ale to return it if you wash it etc.

helpfulin image 2, it looks as though the bra is too shallow for you. Can you see that you have a fold in the tissue in your armpit ? i think what you need to do is pull that fold into the Deco bra and see if the bra gets a bit fuller after that.
Also, i think perhaps you should think about trying a 28D /DD in the Deco - your rib cage is probably smaller than a 30 band - does the band feel loose round the back; it looks like it might be?

Thanks for your help! I definitely tried to scoop the armpit-fold tissue into the bra, but it does not stay there (nor does it on any of my other bras except on the Prima Donna Twist Mademoiselle, where it seems to me that the bra is high enough to cover it. I guess I am a little confused about scooping breast tissue from the armpit into the bra. What does it mean when the bra does not cover that area? Is the cup size too small then? Are all bra cups supposed to come up far enough to encompass and cover up that armpit fat area?
I haven't tried any 28 bands yet. Most of the 30's I have tried feel really tight to me after living in 32/34 for so long. Would an even tighter band help to fix the armpit folds, or are those two separate issues?

if you have been wearing ill-fitted bras for a while, then the change in size will feel very weird!! It will probably take a little while for your body to adjust to the freedom of being able to fill out into your bra. By which i mean, don't worry too much about the scooping not working - it can take a long time to 'move' tissue around.
From picture 2, i think that this size is a little small for you. However, because you have the gapping, it is likely that this bra isn't great from your shape.
In image 4, it looks as though you might need to pull your breast up from the bottom when it is inside the cup - this sounds weird i know! but i think that if you lift the boob with one hand and pull the bottom of the bra up so that it is under the crease in you breast, then let go of your boob, it might get rid of the gapping. In answer to the tightness of the band; it will help with the overall fit, because if the band is too loose (even if it feels tight!) then your boobs will want to escape from the bottom of the bra, and will also want to relax out of the sides of the bra, giving you armpit folds. However, if you don't want to go to 28 bands yet, that's okay!
Looking at image 2, it looks as though you are squishing your breast onto your body, and therefore although you have some gapping in the middle of the bra, you actually need more room at the side of the bra -does that make sense?!

Wow, I tried putting it on again on the tightest hook and it feels very tight to me, but it looks SO much better. Of course now I am popping out of the middle of the bra. So it seems you were 100% right, I need to check out a 28E. Thanks!

Following the idea about a 28 band, I tried the Rive Gauche again on the tightest hook and it fits great, no gapping. Thanks for your help!
