Bra fitting help » How do I know for sure if a cup is just right or too small?
Elle Macpherson Intimates » Exotic Garden Balconette Longline Bra (E90-1019) » 32D 32:4
Issue resolved
It's just the wrong style and too big of a band that it doesn't do anything for me.
Original problem
This is an Elle MacPhereson Longline bra in 32D.
I generally have trouble with the fit of Elle MacPhereson bras because her sizing is much different than my favorite brands and most stores around me do not carry many sizes for me to try on.
I usually wear full coverage styles on a daily basis with underwires that go all the way up and thick wings.
With this particular bra, I notice a fleshy area below my armpit and the top side of my breast that isn't covered by the bra cup. I'm not sure if that's breast tissue and an indication of a bad fit?
I tried to shorten the straps to bring up the bra and high as my breasts will allow and at the shortest setting I feel as if the top of the cup is too low and the strap sit on top of the breast. Is this normal?I'm not getting a lot of cleavage with this bra and it's molded/lined. I'm wondering about ordering the 32DD but I'm also thinking that cup might be too big because I'm not getting cleavage with the 32D.
Please let me know your thoughts based on the pictures!

helpfulThe cup is too small. Most of the time, the proper fitting bra doesn't give cleavage like you might think. I'm a 28JJ and unless I'm wearing a bra that is designed to create clevage, such as a plunge or some sort, they are a good amount apart from each other. Cleavage most of the time means it's a bad fit. The breast tissue that doesn't fit into the bra means the cup is too small. If you haven't swooped and scooped, I'm sure if you did then you would have a much greater amount of 'cleavage'/quadraboob.
Seeing you with a ribcage of 27 and yet in a 32 band makes me suspicious. I do see that the measurements of the bra stretch to 32, but that seems really inaccurate. The stretch of three inches from a relaxes doesn't seem right. The band does look like it's sitting all around you, but I can't be sure.

It's hard to say. I think you might need to go with a different brand all together. The whole design of the 32DD might be too wide/large for your frame/breasts.
-
Any chance you can post a slightly less cropped picture? It's had to see the whole picture of how the bra fits because it's so close in. It kind of looks like the whole thing is sitting to low on your chest - it kind of looks like it's pulling your boobs down in the 2nd picture.
-
Sure thing.
My breasts seem to be set low. That was the highest I could pull up the bra without having the underwire sitting on top of the root.

helpfulIn my opinion, cup is too small if 1. Your breast tissue bulges above it when you press the center gore to your body or 2. If you can see any lumpiness between the bra and your body underneath a tight t-shirt (one with a neckline high enough to not get in the way of what you're seeing). Even if the bra is lower cut, in your cup size range it can still be a good fit without covering everything.
If neither of things are happening, though, I think it looks like a fine fit. And I definitely don't think you need to size up in the band. It doesn't look too loose, and even if it did, since your boobs aren't as heavy as someone in a higher cup size range, you won't have problems with a slightly looser, more comfortable band.

It would be nice to see a picture from the side, to see where the wires end. Most of the time it's the easiest way to see if it is too small.
-
I attached pictures of the sides and from other angles. Some parts feel "squished" and lumps are coming out. But I'm not sure if it's this style or if going up a cup with help with this.

Thanks, i would say that is not the right design for you altogether. If you go up a cupsize, the wire might get too wide, as they are already a bit. You can of course try it anyway, i wouldnt say it's hopeless. But I don't think it will stay comfortable on you, as breast tissue escapes with wrong wires
-
I have a very wide root that extends to the sides. I think the width of the wire is fine but they come up too short on me as I have a lot of breast tissue on the top corner and the strap is cutting into it.
I measured one cup from one end to the other and it's 8" but one of my breasts from one end to the other is 10". Should that measurement be the same with a good fit? -
as the wires change a bit with the stretching of the band, difference is possible.
You mean if your breast should become the same size in a bra?

helpfulThe cups are definitely too small for you. But I don't think trying different sizes will help cleavage in anyway since this bra design does not serve this purpose. If you notice the bra cups actually push down on your breast, you might get cleavage if you wear a couple of cups smaller, but this will be bad for your breast in the long run.
Also, you are wearing the bra a little bit too low so this will decrease the chance of cleavage as well.
In our personal opinion, these bra designs are usually for looks and lack support in the cups. These bra cups cover your breast, but does not support it.
A good looking fashion bra, but not a well designed supported bra.
Of course, this is our personal opinion.

I don't think you need to go up a cup size. I think it looks good on you.

Thanks for your reply!
I tried swooping and scooping but it seems like the part that is not covered by the bra just lets that part escape. So when I have my arms down, I can feel a bulge underneath my armpit.
The 32" band is the smallest Elle Macpherson makes now but they say her bands run small.
Do you think the 32DD would be a better choice?
I kind of feel like the cup is a little short.
