Bra fitting help » Help with discomfort around front of armpits from the strap
Curvy Kate » Princess Balcony Bra (CK6001) » 30G 30:9
Issue resolved
Thank you all! I'm going to try going up a couple cup sizes to see what works better.
Original problem
This bra hurts! I wore it to work one day and barely made it home. This is my first try at finding a bra that fits. At first it made my sternum very uncomfortable, but that gradually faded. The feeling around the front of my armpits did not however.
I think my left boob is too small for this bra. Maybe I should go up to a 30GG? I used the mwb fitting guide and measured 30 underbust and 39 over. The band seems to fit ok. It's pretty tight on the loosest setting. The top of the cups hurt my breasts a bit too, but I think perhaps it was the fabric.
What is the deal with the armpit rubbing and should I go up a cup size?

helpfulAre both sides hurting or just one? From a quick glance it looks like the straps in your right side might be too tight (the cup also looks it's cutting in to the top of your boob).

helpfulI would try narrower styles like those found in Freya, Comexim, and Ewa Michalak. Curvy Kate is pretty wide, and for someone who appears to have a narrower root, the shape is probably just not right. Oh and also, that cup looks way way too small.

Thanks! The cup definitely fit the smaller breast.. just not the larger one. Can you explain what exactly a 'narrow root' means?

It means that basically where your breast tissue meets your underbust doesn't go as far back as this bra's underwires do. For example, if you compare what a Curvy Kate bra looks like right next to a Freya bra, you'll see that the underwires on the Freya make a narrower U and the Curvy Kate one makes a wider U.

Ahh I see.. and that makes sense. Thank you so much!

helpfulI have found that Curvy Kate wires distort under the pressure of the band. In order to relieve the stabbing that the wires give me, I have to size up or wear an extender. Maybe with your next order, try 32G to see if that feels better?
My breasts are not particularly narrow, but my ribcage is so small (27") that when the wires distort, they almost end up on my back. This is definitely too wide for my boobs, but only because the wires bend.

That did actually help the discomfort a bit, but it hurts on both sides. Although, I feel like the cup still doesn't fit my left breast yet fits well on my right. Asymmetry is the worst :-/
