Bra fitting help » Panache Jasmine....I think it fits?
Panache » Jasmine Balconnet Bra (6951) » 32J 32:13
Issue resolved
Fit seems to improve with multiple washes and more wear. Will try another one in a smaller band size at some point.
Original problem
Many of you recommended the Panache Jasmine to me based on my previous fit requests. It arrived, and I think I'm pretty happy, but I just want to get some other opinions before I move on to other bras now that I have settled on a go-to size.
Band -- feels pretty good, but it's maybe a tiny bit too big or stretchy? I could hook it on the 2nd row of hooks on first try.
Cups -- seem to contain everything pretty well. The stretch lace really makes the bra fail-proof. I tried to scoop and swoop my heart out to make quadboob, and I couldn't do it. There is a tiny bit of the cup I'm not filling at the bottom (orange in a glass?)
Straps -- the worst part of the bra. They are TOO far apart for me. I have worn the bra for 3 hours now, and I feel chafing under my arms because of how I have the straps pulled to stay on me. They also dig into my shoulders some, but that may be because of my permanent shoulder dents or the fact that I am just really soft all over.
Shape -- the shape is fantastic! Very uplifted and naturally rounded. I think it looks great under a shirt. It's not a bra I'd wear if I wanted to show some cleavage by any means, but it looks good. Also, the pattern is much nicer in person than I expected.
This 32J is the best fitting size I've tried to date, so I want to try some other styles as well. Some of you suggested the Alana and Boudoir Beau to me, and it'd be great if you could help me figure out a size to get. Also, should I try another Jasmine in a 30JJ?
I also received a 32J Ariza as well and have posted my review and pictures. It fit much better than I expected. The band was actually too tight on that one, but I put that everything fit so I can hopefully get better recommendations on here.
Thanks guys!

helpfulSo 30JJ for you. But this is as good as it gets I think
So, the beau I think you should take in the same size 30JJ but note that it has no streach whatsoever, and alana in a cup up - so 30K.
Not sure on the band with alana - alisa will have more input on that one.Updated on December 5, 2012 Flag this
-
I updated the reply :))) and I am very happy this worked for you :)))
I think you should basically follow alisa in size :) this means cleo is an option for you also :) -
Will do! I will start stalking her sizing patterns. *waves to alisa* ;-)
-
I did want to add that it seems like the longer the day goes on, the more I notice the very bottom of the cup not being filled. Is this due to the cup being too large, or too small? It's hard to really tell because of that stretch lace keeping everything in check up top. Could it just be the shape?
It's not enough of an issue to make the bra a deal-breaker; I just want to make sure I'm informed on a proper fit for my future purchases.
-
I have the same problem, I explained it in my last bra adventure. It can be several reasons - the wires could be too narrow on the bottom, there may not be enough space in the cup near the wires (too shallow near the wires) or you may be just wearing your bra too low.
-
I don't think I'm wearing it too low, as I've adjusted it over and over trying to fix that area. I think you're right, it's probably just a tad bit too shallow near the wires.
-
Looks like we are really size-sisters :)
If the band feels too loose I would go for an 30JJ in Jasmine. I just got mine on monday and so far I can't complain.
Boudoir Beau : I would recommend getting it in the same size as Jasmine fit you best. (30JJ or 32J)
Alana : One cup size up from Boudoir B. and Jasmine. Due to my experiences with it, it fits better if its a bit big in the cup + shoulder straps more tightened.
I found the band on both Alana & Boudoir Beau quite tight when I put them on first (could fit 2 fingers under it but not more) but it give with wear (but still feels snug). Also the material is quite itchy at first.
I have that problem with empty fabric on the bottom sometimes too I think (in my case) it happens when the bottom of the cup is too shallow right away from the wire.
Btw. Ariza looks also great on you. :) I'm glad that it works for you. -
Thank you so much for all of the information! I feel extremely lucky to have a size sister on here that has so much knowledge about different brands and models. :-)
-
BumbleBean: could you measure yourself as with the formula from my adventure from last week? Just curious :) http://www.bratabase.com/profile/353/adventures/302/
I am debating whether or not to go for the Jasmine and what size I will then choose. I'm still not sure.
Also I'm debating with myself if I should buy your pink Andorra after all. But I would need to do a lot of comparing before deciding on it.
Also; you look great in this bra and I agree about if the band rides up go for a 30JJ
-
BumbleBean - I just want to say the ariza on you is the best I've seen on anyone :) And this is from a passionate Ariza hater :D
I still think it's a crappy bra in more than one aspect :)) but am happy it works for you :)
And the color is, I will addmit it, just smashing :)) -
@Branarchist: I will try to measure myself for you soon. :) Also, if you need any further info on the Andorra, just let me know!
I did end up wearing the bra on the 2nd hook for most of the day yesterday, and that helped with the annoyance of the band riding up, but oh wow, was I ever glad to take it off! Is it normal for the first few wears of a bra with a tighter band to feel nearly uncomfortable?
@Vee: Aw, thanks! I was aware that many people on here seem to just really dislike the Ariza, but there was just something about it that made me like it (probably the awesome color!) I'm wearing it today, and I must say, it feels great so far.
-
BumbleBean: Maybe you could measure the height of the bottom seam of Andorra as well as wire to strap? So that I know how much fabric I have under my arms as I use need the wire to be where my shoulder blades are.
-
Sure, I can do that. I'll try to do that tonight when I get home.
Also, if you end up feeling good about the measurements of the Andorra, I also have a brand new purple one in 34HH as well (bought them together on eBay.) The hot pink one is slightly used, so the band may be a little looser than the purple one I have (I never even tried that one on.)
-
BumbleBean: Thanks! You can measure the purple as well. I think the purple one is smaller in general than the white and ivory ones :)

Oh wow, now I'm having a new issue. I think it's with the band that runs around the front under the wires? It has folded over and just hurts soooo bad. I've never worn banded bras before, so it's a new experience. Will it eventually loosen up more, will I get used to it, or do I just have too much "fluff" around my mid-section? The Ariza does it too, but it just feels slightly different (still uncomfortable.)
-
Oh this happens sometimes. This can mean you are wearing your bra too low, so you might want to reajudst. If it continues to do so, you can try turning it bac in the opposite direction with hands and even sewing it up http://brasihate.blogspot.com/2012/03/adventures-in-showgirl-curvy-kates.html?m=1
-
Oh, thanks Vee! I remember reading that on her blog ages ago but had forgotten about it. I've tried adjusting, so it looks like I'll be getting out the needle and thread!
-
I think it will also be solved better with a tighter band. They don't run around that much on the body as looser bands does. I'm gong to add boning to all my bands though. Because that chafing thing happens when all the weight are on the boobs and there is too little weight distribution around the band in general.
-
@Branarchist:
Do you mean add boning like this on the Tango:
http://img255.imageshack.us/img255/4544/snapshot201212105m.jpg -
alisa: Yes! Maybe even closer to the wire and then more boning across the wing. And add extra wings.
But the picture of that Tango bra was just another argument for me trying the Tango :D

I think I've finally gotten this bra to fit a bit better. I'm now wearing it on the tightest row of hooks, and I shortened the straps a little bit. Maybe I was wearing it a bit too low and the band too loose. I'm kind of a wuss at first when it comes to tight bands (I wore 38/40 bands for years before I started wearing 34/36 bands about a year and a half ago.) The tightness felt by wearing more appropriate 32 and possibly 30 bands has been hard for my mind to accept and my body to get used to, but I guess that's normal.
Anyway, I don't seem to have as much of an issue with the empty fabric at the bottom of the cup now that the bra fits better around my ribcage (and the fact that it's been washed and broken in a little bit.) I was concerned that I might even need a smaller cup size, but now I'm on the verge of quadboob (I can actually see a little bit through the shirt I'm wearing today, and I didn't have that before.)
I also forced that band in the front to roll outwards instead of inwards, so it's no longer causing me pain. I don't think I'll have to sew it if it just stays where it is.
The straps are also less chafing now that it has been washed and I've gotten used to it a bit.
-
Yay! :) Jasmine really is a great bra, but one needs to know how to tame it a bit :D
-
That is a great way of putting it! :-) It's definitely not one of those that is going to be perfect straight out of the package, for sure. I'm really glad that it seems to fit better and better with each wear because the shape is FANTASTIC and I love how my boobs are not under my arms at all. I really want it to feel as good as it looks, and I think it eventually will.
-
I think with all comments about the Jasmines materials if I'll ever buy it I buy it second hand :D I like second hand shoes as well :D
-
I will probably try to buy a 30JJ after Christmas since I'm already on the tightest hook on only the 4th wear, so I will be selling this one in the near future. ;-)
-
BumbleBean: That Jasmine really takes time to break in. I have washed mine once and it's still not comfy to wear. I hope I'll get rid of the wrinkling on bottom of the cups.
Btw. I can't get over how good that Ariza looks on you :) I even looked for cheap ones on Ebay but then I reminded myself that I don't even like that bra :D -
Aw, thanks! I've been pretty happy with the Ariza so far. I was able to finally wear it without an extender yesterday, and it felt tons better (it's a 32 band, but stretched it only goes to 31!) If it just had a bit more uplift and was a little less east/west, I'd buy one in every color!
I've only washed my Jasmine once as well. I think I may wash it a couple of extra times this week, whether it needs it or not. It's *almost* there.
-
I've been thinking about Ariza as well. I think it could be altered to become a true balconet. One would need to add a side support panel to it. Then fasten a new strap or the older one into that section. The strap would now be connected to the bottom section and voila - balonet. (or is it balcony? or balconette? Whatever it is I don't think it would be super hard to accomplish.
-
For the band rolling/digging in: this is another reason I wear bra liners all the time. It just puts a layer of padding between your skin and whatever annoying thing the band wants to do. ;)

helpfulYour review helped talk me out of that model! I see the cup sides come up very high under the arm and would chafe on me.
Updated on December 5, 2012 Flag this

Yeah, my arms have been rubbed raw and are red now because of that. :( But, I'm just going to keep wearing it for now because I don't really have much else that fits! I'm hoping maybe it'll get better once it's broken in some. Other than that, it's great.
-
Tjis is why I think you might like the Beau - it comes much lower on the sides :)
-
I remember you saying that, so I am VERY excited to order that one soon! :-)
-
RG, I wanted to let you know that the problem I had with chafing under the arm has gotten better with a few wears. I was not optimistic about it because after the first 2 times I wore the bra, I had raised red areas from that part just rubbing me too much, but now that the bra has been washed and broken in some, it's barely noticeable.
I hate that I had to work though it, but I'm happy to report that it gets better over time.
-
Thanks for the update! Does make it hard to buy a bra when it's uncomfortable trying it on.
-
I totally understand. Everyone seems to agree that this bra is a beast to break in, but apparently the result is worth it.

Good luck! I hope you have success with how they fit.
-
Hi....i just received my Jasmine and Azira..... i really love it....Jasmine hold me well... its cup give me a good coverage and a nice hold as well...overall its good but...the most weird thing they did...they sent a Cleo George that i didnt order at all....its in the same size but its fitting is so weird.... i have to return it back to them.....
-
Glad you received them and they worked well for you! I've found that my Jasmine seems to fit better and better with each wash as well. How was your band on the Ariza? Mine was incredibly tight compared to the same size in the Jasmine.
Huh, that's weird they sent a Cleo George. Oh well, at least you got to try it!
-
yep..... thank God i receive so really...else i was expecting that may b due to high season i would receive after Christmas....
let see what will happen with jasmine...but i like and feel bra more soft and comfy after 2,3 washes....
well regarding azira...i have order two colors..one teal and one black with red embriodry ...they have sent me black in azira but the most i was expecting it in Teal but they send the wrong one .......
band in azira fits me good but its underwire are narrow for me...may b i need to order 1 cup size up in it....

helpfulHow are the wires at the outside of the cup? Any room to go narrower?
I ask because I actually think you could go down a cup in this bra, if it wouldn't make the wires too narrow. The stretch lace is very forgiving, and will contain your boobs even if it doesn't cover them as much as this size does.
Sizing down *might* help with the bottom of the cup, and would probably give you a little more cleavage, too.(I really, really need to get some pics up of this bra on me, it fits me really differently. Might be interesting.)
I agree so much about the straps! I'm trying to get the nerve to alter them to come from the inside part of the little tab bit they are attached to, instead of the outside. But I don't wanna mess it up!
I have found that Panache bras need to most breaking in of any I've owned, so I wouldn't be surprised if that's the case here for you. Also you can try (hand) washing it a few times, sometimes the bra comes heavily starched.

Hmm, I'm not sure if I really want to go any narrower on the wires. I might be able to handle it a tiny bit more narrow, but not much. It actually feels really good, so I'd hate to sacrifice that. My first priority was finding bras that I could wear to work that wouldn't drive me crazy with discomfort or show the world my cleavage, so for that purpose, this bra works fine. I may get another one eventually, but it's not going to be an immediate priority....I have puchased/returned SO many bras recently, and I just need a break lol. I'll just wear my ill-fitting Freya Decos when I need cleavage for now (my fiance seems pretty happy with how they look lol.)
I think if I try it again, maybe I'll get a 30J then? I think I need a slightly smaller band since I was already wearing it on the 2nd hook on the first day. If it works like you say, then I can wear the larger one for work and the smaller one when I want to be saucy. ;-)
I gave the bra a day off yesterday and am wearing it again today, and so far it feels much better than it did the first day. I think you're right about it being heavily starched and just needing some breaking in! I plan to wash it a couple of times tomorrow, so hopefully that will help with everything.
I would like to see your pics wearing the bra, though.
-
If the wires are good, and the cup feels good, and you don't want more cleavage, then by all means stick with this! I totally understand the feeling of buying/returning and just wanting *something* to work. It looks great, so go with it and just be happy you did find something :)
(aside from the evil straps of course! Whyyyyy do they have to do that?!)
If you feel up to it next round, sounds like a good plan to try a 30J, and see what you think. Well fitting + saucy is nice sometimes ;D
I do hope that some breaking in/washing will in fact help. I meant to say before, as far as breaking in Panache bras especially, I always try to wear them the first few times when I will be able to change after 5-6 hours or so, because they do tend to need breaking in.
(I completely suck at getting good pics trying to take them myself, so I have to get my husband to take them, so I have to find times when he's available to do that. Might be able to do them later today.)
-
I did put up pics, finally! (I finally worked out how to use the timer on my camera, lol.) So if you go to the size 32K, those are mine.

helpfulIt fits good and is comfortable too as you say, except for the shoulder straps... aaah..
If the shoulder strap the only problem, there are shoulder pads you can use. They protect the shoulders in case of irritations and keep the straps in place.

Well, the main issue with the shoulder straps is that they sit too far to the edge of my shoulders. Thanks anyway, though!
-
Awesome. Thank you so much! I finally feel like I'm on the right track. It'll be nice to be able to worry about other stuff than how uncomfortable I am in my bra. ;)
