Bra fitting help » Why are no bras made for a really broad base?
Freya Swim » Eden Balconette Bikini Top (3192) » 36G 36:9
Issue resolved
It's not a halfcup.
Original problem
I'm starting to become really frustrated about the fact that all bras in what ever size I try them in are too projected combined with too narrow. The only way a bra or bikini would fit me would be by strangling myself with a 30-32 band and having wires distorted combined with having hooks too strained.
If I could do it I'd add the altered 34H S Fresh to a request instead but since I cannot do that I figured I might as well put up this bikini here.
Also; bottom of wires would need to be flatter to help my root, now they are simply too narrow in the middle causing extra fabric and wrinkling in the bottom even if the bikini is too small. It's not about the bra being too low it's about the fact that my bottom creast is straighter than all bras. (And bikinis)
So most shallow bikini you know of please?

helpfulFreya has a few wider styles, but most people say that they are usually narrow. Have you tried the Panache Tango, Fern, or Sienna? Those are all pretty wide and shallow (Fern is based on the Tango.) I know, they aren't swimsuits, but getting the right fit from those would be a start.
It says on this entry that you have narrow breasts. So in what way are you finding bras too narrow?
Wrinkling in the bottom is actually a sign of a cup being too small, it is often called the "orange in a glass effect". BUt sometimes wrinkling in the bottom is because the bra has room there not being filled, either because you're wearing the wires too low or because you just aren't full on bottom.

Oh of course! Definitely not the only reasons, just some possibilities.

rockthecurves Tried Sienna in 34J and I'm thinking about trying the Tango and Fern sooner or later. I just don't get along very well with Panache wires since they are so sturdy.
I think the main reason for my wrinkling in this one is that the wires are lower than my boobs since my boobs have a straighter curve under them than most wires have ;/

helpfulI don't have any recommendations, sorry But it looks to me almost like you have shallow breasts, not breasts with a wide base. If that's the case (and it's difficult to tell from these pictures) a cup that's more open on top may help.
I have shallow breasts, and I often get slight orange in glass at the bottom of the cup, top of "full on bottom" style bras cuts in but "full on top" styles gape, and the tip/nipple area of the bra often projects farther than I can fill. Although this all sounds like symptoms of a wide base, I actually have a narrow base. It is the same effect as a wide base in that the tissue is spread more than in other breasts, but for those with shallow breasts it is spread out vertically above the normal breast instead of wider to the sides as in those with a wide base.

laurel_leaf If just speaking glandualar tissue then yes, not a broad base. But adding the fat all around that goes into cups when scoping and swooping I end with wires fitting best if they lean against my shoulder blades. I know it sounds absurd, but there's so much bones and curves and stuff everywhere under my arms (that's also where my boobs hangs out naturally) that it does work the best. Probably my best fitting bra is the 34HH - Bravissimo » Mademoiselle Bra (LN110) :)
But you're spot on on the full on top gaping and full on bottom cutting in and open top is the only choice.
But I still haven't found anything shallow enough ;/

laurel_leaf: Actually I am now thinking about your comment a lot. What builds up a shallow cup? It must be *height* rather than width, right? For example this bra from sugarshape: http://www.sugarshape.de/shop/BHs/BH-Leyla.html looks shallower than this: http://www.sugarshape.de/shop/BHs/BH-Marrakesh.html
Even if the latter has wider wires I don't think it would fit. For example I fitted better into Millie than Arabella because Arabella was too wide and low while Millie was higher.
Among the bras worked for me: 34J - Panache » Andorra Full Cup (5675) (I've had it in 4 sizes!) (can be pulled flat with tightened straps), 34HH - Bravissimo » Mademoiselle Bra (LN110) 34GG - Curvy Kate » Tease Me [Showgirl Collection] (SG2001) (though the last one is too small, gore pushed away) and somewhat Hp Nina (36GG)
They all come very high up on me and spread the tissue around my chest? Oh and also 30J - Cleo » George (5131)
All of them are in completely different sizes, but they all are high?

After my adventure today of finding 36 and 38 G-cup Wacoal bras at TJ Maxx (!!) and trying them on, I think, at least for me, "shallow" actually means "short".
Just adjusting the cups upward does not solve the problem. This is why I usually have wrinkling at the top of full-cup bras and also, the portion of the strap that shows on the front side is WAY shorter, proportionally, than you would expect. But, because of my "short" or "shallow" boobs, the shape of the cup is almost always wrong. My boob may be the same size around, but the "around" part is probably an inch or more shorter than what is considered "standard" size.
-
Branarchist I can see how you might want a wider wire in that situation - I personally have little to no squish on my sides so wires any wider than my root/glandular tissue are incredibly irritating.
As far as shallow bras, I think it might work both ways? For example, Pour Moi (which is a nightmare fit on me) has very shallow cups because the wires are so wide. But for my shallow breasts, it isn't that the tissue is all in the normal boob area but spread wider (which would just simply be wide-based breasts), it's that it sticks above it. A higher bra would probably encapsulate it, but what works best for me are bras like the ones you describe, where it isn't just that they are higher, but that the cup doesn't project quite as much and the top doesn't cut in. So on other people this allows for cleavage, because it leaves room above the cup for breast - but for us it's less about cleavage and more about not cutting in to the tissue that naturally exists there.
drownedsalad I'm having a hard time picturing what you're describing, sorry :( Is there anyway you could describe it differently? I'm such a visual person that I suck with descriptions, sorry, lol

laurel_leaf, Um... My descriptions are all wordy and backwards 'cuz I think visually, too. It's hard for me to find the words to describe what I see in my head!
/insert small pause.
I made a picture.

See, short boobs act like shallow boobs, but only have less volume 'cuz they're shorter. The green line is really the same length. I think this is why I'm having more problems finding bras that fit properly. That and wire placement and strap placement are for something that is more flat front to back with my measurements.

laurel_leaf (and also Hagane here since mentioning Pour Moi)
A lot of people say Pour Moi is shallow, but when I tried the S:t Tropez fullcup the cups were far too deep combined with too narrow wires. So it fitted even worse than Freya in the same size on me.
So today I checked how Andorra Full Cup is constructed. We compared it to this bikini and 30J - Curvy Kate » Emily (CK5001) and 36G - Freya » Piper Longline (1233) Here's our conclusions:
Andorra has:
1. Low cut bottom section
2. Tight (but stretchy!) upper section
3. No apex
4. No immediate bottom roomEden has:
1. High cut bottom section
2. A high set apex
3. Too tight upper section - cuts in.
4. Immediate bottom roomEmily has
1. High cut bottom section
2. Roomy upper section but with too little stretch - cuts in
3. High set apex in a very odd shape
4. No immediate bottom roomTo be fair I don't even understand the reason for building bras like that, it's really strangely cut.
Piper
Even if it is a halfcup the bottom of the bra is very similar to Eden but the cut is vertical with no apex. Top gives too much room so I get gaping. So my conclusion really is this; Apart from the wires stabbing me Andorra is by far my best bra. And that must be my requirement for a bikini bra as well. It might be I will need to learn to take out bottom cup depth in bras but doing it with a bikini sounds too complicated.
So something like this; 34F - Freya » Cabaret Bikini Top (3076) but in 3-4 cup sizes up. So one of all these same cut bras? http://www.bratabase.com/browse/freya/fever-plunge-bikini-3328/
Because all those should be easy to take slack out of?
Another one I'm checking out: http://www.sugarshape.de/shop/Bikini-Top-Sailorette.html What do you think? :)

helpfulEven though we're quite different sizes we seem to have similar fitting issues, so here are some of my experiences as I'm going through the same torture as you are right now: finding a bikini/tankini/swimsuit that fits
So far I've found the Fantasie tankini (Helsinki) I tried come closest to a working fit: the wires are somewhat narrow, but one can easily size up in this style as volume-wise the inbuilt non-stretch cups run surprisingly small (I'm definitely going to get in a size up as well). The fashion fabric overly has a slight minimising effect, at least in the sizes I've tried, that seems to negate excess depth in the cups, if there even is any. The matching bikini is stretchier, runs a teeny tiny bit larger (truer to size, I'd say) and decidedly deeper (unfortunately not significantly wider), and is therefore much more projected. It fits me a bit like the Fantasie Elodie does: not ideal, but as it's the only thing I have where nothing cuts in it isn't outright bad either.
The Panache tankini (Anna) I tried gave me the oddest shape ever. It also also ran small in the cups volume-wise, but slightly wider in the wires than the Fantasie -- I thought it would be more compatible with my shape, but alas: the top edge of the thing was so tight that it totally cut of my chest and made it look as if my breasts were upside-down on my body, very very unflattering.
Unrelated to fit, but another thing I like about the Fantasie one is that it is nice and long compared to the Panache. Much more flattering, if you ask me

Thanks! I'm looking for it but it does seem sold out everywhere I look apart from in sizes like 40E. But it is beautiful and I might find it if looking for it more :)
I wonder whether other Fantasie tankinis might have the same cut as well?

As far as I can tell there are several that look as if they have a similar cut: Trinidad, San Jose, Avignon, Tahiti, Hawaii, Orlando (without the ruched sides) to name a few are all almost exactly the same. Mauritius has a slightly different neckline but it look as if it may also work ... I haven't tried any of these, but it seems most of the ones that are named after geographical locations are more or less similar. Montreal, L.A., Brasilia, etc., have a twisted instead of ruched front and a different neckline, but who knows, it might be that the structure underneath is similar too.

helpfulPour Moi? produces shallow bras, and also bikinis. Have you tried the Pour Moi Azure?
It was horrible on me, extremely wide, and i already need wide wiresUpdated on March 20, 2013 Flag this
Wrinkling in the bottom of the cups can occur for MANY reasons, only one of which is the traditional 'orange-a-glass' explanation. The other explanations you give are not all that that is there too it either, see for example my comment here: http://www.bratabase.com/profile/2sx/adventures/969/#adventure-comment-7795. This isn't even an exhaustive list, but just a couple of the reasons one might experiencing empty space or folding in the bottom of the cup.
