Bra fitting help » Freya Jolie Bra too small?

Issue resolved
Will order 28GG and 28H
Original problem
New bra but I have to close the band on tightest hook. Thought this bra fitted (was 'professionally' measured as a 34E but wasn't long realising it was much too small in cup and big in band) but noticed I had 'bat wings' so I scooped the stray breast tissue in to cups and the result was quadboobs. What size should I get? This bra is a 30ff. My back measures 29 inches and my over breast measurement is 37.5/38 (I've extremely soft boobs - if a fly landed on them it would give me quadboob so not sure if I'm 37.5/38). I've bottom heavy boobs and look completely flat chested without a bra!

helpfulIt looks like we have pretty similar measurements (I'm a bit smaller in the underbust, but about the same around the bust.) I also have super duper soft boobs, like water balloons. And you look here a lot like I look in a Freya bra that's too small in the cups! I recommend that you go up to at least a G, but probably a GG. If you're sizing down to a 28 band, I recommend you try an H.
Normally I'd say that you should avoid plunges, but Freya's "Balcony Plunge" styles aren't really plunge-y. In the right size, they provide quite a bit of coverage so you can avoid falling out of your bra (like I do with the Deco or any halfcup style I've tried.) My personal opinion is that this could be a really good style for you; I think you just need to tweak the sizing.

I'm far from the most knowledgeable here, but for starters, I'd recommend going into the advanced search feature here and type in ribcage/underbust measurement and breast perimeter, and see what it says.
Basically, if your breast perimeter is 14, and the cup depth is 10.4, you're putting 10 pounds of sugar in a 5 pound sack. All bras (and I mean all--different styles and different colors within styles) fit differently. It's like they were trying to drive us insane. So see what others have measured and that should give you an idea.
I have an 11.5 inch perimeter and wear a G or H, but I have a larger ribcage. That should give you some idea of how much too small the FF is.
And my personal opinion is, with breasts that soft (mine as like that!), avoid plunges. I plunge right on out of them in the center because the tissue is soft and wants to flow out.

That all makes perfect sense! God, how could I have been so stupid! Unfortunately, I always go for plunges because my boobs are naturally very close together (about 1.5 fingers width). I thought I was destined for a lifetime of bruises and an extremely painful sternum until I discovered plunges.
-
Mine are even closer set than yours--just one finger separation when braless
-
I find that any bra I've tried that isn't a plunge, really hurts my sternum and the wires in the centre press on breast tissue either side of my hreasts. How do you manage with non-plunge bras?
-
If you are wearing the wrong size, any issues with wires are a hundred times worse.
From the shape of your boobs I think you might like the Panache Sienna or the Cleo Lucy.
The Freya Jolie is completely wrong for you, not just in size but also in shape. Look at image 5, just near the wires you can see a lot of fabric near the wires. I think you did a sloppy job of putting on the bra, if you took more care to get it right you wouldn't have so much quadboob.
-
That's harsh t-maia as definitely not a sloppy job - I spent about 20 mins adjusting this bra before I took the photos! The reason there is so much fabric (which I did of course see myself) is because I couldn't get my boobs which are large on the bottom to fit down in to the cup; no matter what I tried.
-
When you say how close together your breasts are, where exactly are you measuring? At the root mid-sternum?
-
Ok, try putting on the bra again. Adjust the cup the following way: Left hand holds left cup. Right hand adjusts the left cup. Bow forward, push up the wire. Keep holding the wire. Swoop and scoop. Come up, keep holding the wire. Lift your breast into the cup. Still holding the wire. Push the thumb of your right hand into the left cup, all the way down to the wire. Place the thumb and index finger on the support seam, pull the support seam up and around your boobs. Now let go of the left wire and repeat on the right side.
If this does not work and you cannot push up the wire far enough, check wire width. You might be dealing with too narrow wires. Alternatively the bottom cup might either to be too big or too small. Please try the Panache Sienna, Cleo Lucy and Freya Halfcups from the Summer range. http://www.bratabase.com/browse/freya/summer-padded-half-cup-4551/

helpfulI'm not sure it's too small, but maybe not the right style for you. My philosophy is always that if a bra sometimes seems too big and sometimes seems too small then it's probably the right size but not the right shape. Your breasts seem really soft and willing to flow out of a plunge. I think you should try a full cup in the same size or possibly a cup size larger. Or you might get a really flattering shape in a balconette as long as you don't mind a little jiggle. Also, you say you "have to" close out on the tightest hook, but it looks like it's cutting in pretty significantly on the sides. I wonder if you might not need to close it so tightly if it fit better elsewhere.

I know what you're saying, it does look like it's cutting in on the photo but it is actually very comfortable and when I put it on the loosest hook it still looks like it't cutting in. On the tightest hook I can still put two fingers width underneath but it feels snug and not loose. Not sure if it's giving me this appearance because I've lost weight and my skin is possibly a bit loose?

helpfulI always found that I had to size up in the cup with Jolie, and also found the band to be loose compared to other Freya styles. I'd recommend a 28GG (that's one cup size up, one band size down), but the safest bet would be to order a 28GG and 28H and return the one that doesn't fit (or both if neither fits, but it really looks like you just need a cup size up and you'll be fine so I doubt neither would fit!)

The consensus here is definitely to order a 28GG and a 28H. Thank you!

you're welcome! :)

helpfulThat definitely looks a size (or maybe 2) too small. My measurements are almost the same as yours, and I wear a 30G in the Jolie.
Note that Jolie bands run a more than a size large once you go above a G cup. So a 28GG will actually have a *longer* band than a 30G (I've tried both). Yes, it's ridiculous and annoying.

Oh that's really good to know. So would you say that the 28GG in the band will probably feel like the 30FF band that I'm wearing. That felt a bit loose you see and I've tightened it on the tightest hook.
-
Thank you so much! I had noticed alright that the Freya seemed to be a good compromise for my shape in terms of the 'plunginess' of it. I will definitely try it in a GG and a 28H as you suggested. The only other problem that I have is that I cannot wear any bra that isn't a plunge as my boobs are close together (naturally - know it probably doesn't look to be the case in the photos) and the centre gore of any other shape bra digs in to my sternum and breast tissue on each side. It's really painful and I just can't wear them.
