Issue resolved
I need a cup that is deeper at the base.
Original problem
These cups seem to be the right size for my breasts, but the bottom of the cup keeps collapsing even though there's an adequate amount of tissue to fill it. Every time I swoop, scoop and adjust the wire to my breast crease, it just slides back down and caves at the bottom. Is the cup still too small? Too large? Is the shape just wrong for me? The straps definitely feel too wide, they restrict movement of my arm and threaten to fall off my broad shoulders. If the straps were positioned further in, it might help. As of now, tightening the straps does nothing for this problem.

helpfulI'm not sure if the underwires are too wide for you (I think they look good?), but chances are that the cups are too shallow for you at the bottom. So even though technically the volume of the cups should be enough to accomodate your breasts, there's no way for your boobs to be squeezed in at such a shallow space. That's just my guess, but I think that's why. It's called the orange in a glass effect. A glass might have the volume to accomodate an orange, but if the glass doesn't have a big enough circumference the orange simply won't be able to fit there.
Edit: I would also like to add that I'm really glad you took the plunge to order a bigger bra! I helped you with the other fit request you posted. I don't think Masquerade is the way to go for you. Maybe the Cleo Marcie (6831)? I've heard it's especially good for full on top boobs and the great thing about that bra is that if your boobs fluctuate a tiny bit in size throughout the month (menstrual cycle + hormones) the lace section on the upper end of the cup will probably make sure there's no quadboob It's very forgiving I've heard.

Thanks for the suggestions. Maybe my perception is just off, but I think I do best with more structured cups in half-cup styles, which give me the lift I need and accommodate my top-heavy breasts. The few soft cup styles I have tried leave me feeling unsupported. I think I have particularly heavy breasts and they need the extra support of a padded or molded cup.

So you have tried non-padded bras close to your size? Because if the bra has been much too small, anything will feel unsupportive. If you're sure non-padded bras are too weak for you though, of course lined bras is a better option :) Umm... Sadly, I can't think of any lined bra in your size that isn't wide :( I'm hoping someone else will chime in and tell you about this amazing lined bra for bigger cup sizes!
-
I will have to give non-padded bras another try. The ones I tried were 32F and 32FF. Thank you for all your help! You have no idea how much I appreciate it.

I can vouch for Cleo, I have the same fit issues but with boobs twice as heavy :) It is my own personal preference, but I know a lot of full on tops that, like me, go for the unpadded cups because it works best with that shape, because that kind of boobs don't conform to any type of mold if it isn't a perfect match. So cleo alexa, marcie, natasha and megshould be good, and I'd also highly recommend panache jasmine. All those bras will give you the depth you need near the wires.
Other than that, I think you are a great candidate for polish brands.

helpfulThe classic answer would be 'orange-in-a-glass', but I'd say this rather seems a case of either (1) wire tilt or (2) overstretched wires.
Ad (1) : The wires may be tilting slightly instead of bending to accommodate the curve of your ribcage, 'swallowing up' space in the bottom of the cups and preventing your breasts from settling into them properly. This is a common problem when the wires are wide relative to the body or when the ribcage is particularly curved. A simple remedy is to try and bend the wires in a more human shape so they are curved instead of straight. This should free up the space in the bottom of the cups and create room for your breasts. In addition to this, another trick that might help is taking in the centre gore as this angles the wires in a way that seems to reduce wire tilt as well.
Ad (2) : For some reason (too tight band, conical ribcage, too flexible wires ... ? ) the wires may be overstretched, which flattens the bottom of the cups and, again, prevents your breasts from settling into them properly. Measurements are deceptive here: the band might SEEM fine, but there can still be too much tension on the wires either due to the construction of the bra (the Masquerade Rhea for example is notorious for this) or due to some bodily particularities (e.g. conical ribcage). You can test hypothesis this by trying the bra on with an extender and see if makes any difference.
However, as you say that the straps are placed too far apart, this might simply be the wrong shape for you ...

helpfulI think the cups are too shallow for you. That wrinkling in the bottom is often called orange in a glass, and it means the cups are too small and your breasts can't fit into it. I have similar measurements to you and I really love my Masquerade Delphi, the cups are deeper than this bra in a 30H so you have a better chance of not getting orange in the glass in that

That is such a pretty bra, I will have to try it. Thanks for the suggestion!
-
You're welcome! I would recommend looking on eBay because you can find it for less than $40 with shipping.
-
It has a very stiff, tight band so you might want to size up to a 32. I'm actually selling mine in a 30H so I can buy a 32GG/H. If you like tight bands and are interested in buying it from me, send me a message :)

I just got my Delphi in 30H in the mail today and I love it! It fits pretty close to perfect. Thanks again for the suggestion. I get a tiny bit of the orange in a glass effect, but it's barely noticeable. Oddly, I'm getting that effect in non-padded bras too, I find myself constantly yanking the straps tighter to get it to sit right. Do you have any other recommendations?
-
I'm so glad it works for you! Whenever I give advice I get a slight fear/insecurity that I'm giving wrong advice, so it's really nice to know that I could be of help! You probably need to size up in the cups if you're getting orange in the glass. Which non-padded bras do you get that effect in?
-
I have a Curvy Kate Criss Cross in 32G and a few Flirtelles that give me that problem. I tried on a bunch at Nordstrom too, but I can't remember what most of them were. The only one I distinctly remember is the Cleo Marcie in 32G because it actually fit. I haven't bought it yet, I still feel very unsupported in non-padded bras.
-
They were probably too small in the cup. Does the Marcie give you orange in a glass?
I also tend to stay away from non-padded bras. I haven't tried any that fit yet. I'm buying a Cleo Alexa from a Bratabase user though, I'm pretty excited about that! -
If it did, it wasn't bad. I should have taken notes and/or pictures for later reference. I think it was moderately stretchy lace, so it accommodated my shape better, but I feel stretchy fabrics in the cup compromise support. I hope the Alexa works for you. What other molded/padded bras do you like? I found a Masquerade Antoinette on Ebay in 30G and had to try it. It barely comes up past my nipples, but it is gorgeous, doesn't give me quadraboob and minimal OIAG. The Antoinette in a 32GG or 30H is like my holy grail.
-
Just looked it up again and it only goes up to G. I'd settle for a 32G. I can never keep straight which models max out at which cup size.
-
I'm sort of obsessed with the freya deco. I wrote a blog post about is last week http://brajunkie.blogspot.com/. I love the look of the Antoinette! I really like Masquerade. I really really want to find a Mulberry Rhea in a 32GG/H. I just bought one in a 30GG and it's just too small in the band and cup- the band is smaller than the Delphi band! I have a 32GG Ice Blue Rhea coming my way, so I hope it fits because the shape it gives is divine. I tried the Cleo Juna styles Darcy (32H) and Sadie (30H) and they really didn't work for my shape. Unpadded Cleos are said to run large, and I think the Junas run small. I also really want a HP or CH Ewa Michalak. I've tried their plunges and they don't work well for me. I have the plunge category covered with my decos, but I want a less plunge-y bra that gives a round shape. The Delphi/Rhea sort of covers that category but I want a 3-hook band!
-
I need to get some more Decos. I was afraid at first because I had bad luck with the strapless. Before I had any idea what my size really was I got it in a bunch of different sizes and got the collapsing at the bottom of the cup. I didn't know what was going wrong so I ended up keeping the smallest of the ones I got (32E). I get a little caving at the base of the cup with the regular deco, but it's manageable. I love how the rest of it fits. I have also been pining over the Rhea. They're so hard to find for a reasonable price.
-
I lot of people seem to have trouble fitting the deco. The first one I ever tried was a 34E I believe. I tried it on at a shop and the fitter said it fit, but I knew it wasn't quite right. . .I found a Mulberry Rhea on a polish website for less than $30 but I don't think they ship to the US. If they would ship to the US I'd totally go for it cause it would still be less than $50 with shipping. I even emailed them using google translate but they didn't respond :/ The whole site is in polish and couldn't be translated as a a whole so I had to translate each part piece by piece. That's how much I want a Mulberry Rhea in my size. Other than that, I don't believe I've seen a Rhea in my size for less than $70. . .

helpfulit looks likeyour chosing the wrong bra shape for your breast. you loook to have a full on the top breast where as the bra you have on is more suited for a full on the bootm breast. the wires are also too wide for your breast try searching for bras that have more of a u shape to the wire they wont be as wide
Updated on April 25, 2013 Flag this
That makes a lot of sense. I have this problem with probably 90% of the bras I try on. Until now, those bras were usually way too small, so I attributed it to that. The wires felt a little too wide, but they didn't pinch, poke or cause gaping. Any suggestions on how to proceed? Thanks again for your expert insight!!
