Got some great suggestions to try! Waiting for this bra in another size and will post back!
Original problem
HI again everyone,
This is another True bra, but their own brand. This band feels comfortable on me, whereas the other bras they sent hardly fastened. It is a 36B, but would I need a bigger cup in this and band? I am thinking just the cup on this one?

helpfulI would put you at a 34 E, at least. Your underbust puts you in a 34 inch band but the 36 feels small because you have migrated breast tissue that's sneaking into your arm pits and back. I would swoop and scoop and try on a 34 E with a wider underwire, to help combat migrated breast tissue in your armpit. Hope this helps!

RADIO10465 try the bra calculator on http://www.butterflycollection.ca/ . I wouldn't go up to a 36, only because I have a similar rib cage measurement and 36 bras ride up on me, and over time wearing a correct bra my rib cage measurement has shrunk. I would however recommend trying a 34 with an extender until you break it in. Lastly your shape is similar to http://www.investinyourchest.co.uk/my-curves-and-me meaning that you have shallow breasts so I would try out bras that work well on her.
-
Yikes! The Butterfly fit calculator puts me in a 32K (UK size). Um, seriously?
-
Heleana, did you measure correctly? If so then I think it's definitely a good starting point. I was in denial too I checked out your pictures and it looks like you have migrated breast tissue, to swooping and scooping will help the tissue migrate back into the correct spot.

Hi Synch,
That calculator puts me in a 36B or 34C. The band on this one was the looses of the five I tried on (two I asked for help one). I will say that the calc may have me at a B cup, but clearly the B cup is too small here wouldnt you say? I am thinking a 34D here might be worth a shot, since if I tried a 34C I would have the same cup issue, correct? Thank you for all your help and the link you sent me to. It was eye opening and lead me to other links where ladies have migration issues too!
-
Heleana,
Thank you too for your help. If that calculator puts you at a 32K, do try it! Scooping and swooping is something I am not to sure about how to do for myself as most of my breast tissue has seemed to migrate to my back, but give it a go.

My underbust can measure from 32.5 (bust the tape tight) to 34.5 (inhaled and merely snug) right now and my overbust from 43" (with a bra compressing slightly) to 46" (leaning, no bra). I am wearing 34G and 36FF/G right now and getting arm pit spillage sometimes and maybe quad boob after I first swoop and scoop or if I pull my shoulders way back and push my chest out. I have a 34GG on the way, but a K, really, I can't imagine anything bigger than a 34HH could fit, but each brand and cut is different, so who knows? I'll keep creeping up a cup each time I buy a bra I guess.

Yeah...um... calculators or not... it needs to be comfy. I'd actually suggest getting the cup fit right.. and then seeing what band stays put without being uncomfortable best. You need a larger cup, sure, but mostly a wider underwire. The band you have on seems to sit fairly low and straight from what I can see, but that's not to say that it stays there all day. Try a 36C or D or a 34D or E. If you don't like really tight bands, don't wear it. Your breasts aren't really large on you and they seem rather shallow (aka perky?). From personal experience and others' experience your breasts don't have the same demands if they're small compared to your frame. At the moment I'm a 28F, but when my boobs were smaller on the same ribcage I had no problem with wearing 32B's as my boobs didn't need as much support as they do now with 3 cup sizes extra worth of boob tissue. My sister has a broad rib cage, quite muscular. She wears a 34B with a 31in under breast measurement and has absolutely no problems with it riding up or anything, but some calculators put her at a 36A, some at a 30D. No way she's going to fit a 30D with her broad shallow boobs, and even 32's are constrictive on her. (She tried on some of my 32C's).
I don't think you'll fit into a 32 band: your ribcage is larger than it's max stretch sometimes, so that might be quite uncomfortable! Butterfly put me in a 26G... and has no search results for it, let alone for the 24GG they suggest if I want it tight. The hell I'm not trying a 24 band. and 28 bands are perfectly comfortably tight thanks very much! Plus, they recommend a 28FF then, and that's usually far too big. Just to say the calculators don't know everything. Bras are personal, and you need to wear what works best for you and your boobies. General guidelines are to fit your entire boob in the cup and have a band that's snug and supportive without riding up.

HI TallSkinnyCury,
Wow, I am so glad you are helping me out. You are right about the cup size and wire width. My boobs are wide set and yes, perky as you say. They are shallow and self-supporting.I was once told to wear 38A with my measurements just as they are and now everyone says 36A or so. I then was told 3 months later by the same fitter my bra was too big even though I only wore it 4 times. 38 bands never rode up on me, but I think like you were saying, smaller boobs can get away with it as they dont need much support.I also do have breast tissue thats under my arms and back. I can hook a 38 on the third set of hooks within a month, but there are some 36 bands I cant get around me at all! Do u think its at all possible I might still be a 38?
-
You could be both, unfortunately not everyone makes their bands the same size... to make it fun. I have a 32 and a 28 that are exactly the same size band if you put them right next to each other. (and I suspect that 38 band cups might be wider, actually)

helpfulRADIO10465 I would try the 34D, and I suspect that over time the tissue will migrate back and your cupsize will increase. If you want more blogs to look at let me know and I can compile a list.

Thank you,
I am going to ask for that size and maybe one other just to see. If you can send me some other blogs I would be grateful.

helpfulLooking at your ribcage measurement I would not go down a band size (I like these blog posts about this: http://brasihate.blogspot.de/2013/03/why-i-believe-in-2-for-band-size.html, http://brasihate.blogspot.de/2013/03/follow-up-to-2-band-sizing.html), but pick bras suitable for wide root shallow breasts, e.g. Cleo Juna, Freya halfcups (the ones with just vertical seams work best), some Fauve halfcups (such as the Merissa, Mia or Celine), Cleo balconettes ...
I've put lots of bras that fit wide root shallow boobs well on here, so if you like, you can have a look the bras in my profile. These bras are usually also cut fairly open at the top, so they're less likely to cut into breast tissue and cause quadboob. You might still need to go up a cupsize, though, if scoop and swoop all of your breast tissue into the cups.
If the cups' wires are wide enough for you, the band won't feel too tight anymore.Updated on May 2, 2013 Flag this

Thank you for these links. Do these bras come in smaller sizes though, 36B or36C? I also agree on not going down a bandsize, as sometimes the 36 bands are too tight, but I think that may well be due to too small cups some of the time.I also heard that smaller chested ladies may need a band size up.

Good point! I used to be a 30C, so several of the bras I put on bratabase do or did come in C cups too.
Cleos only start at a D cup now, but you can still find older models on ebay, e.g. the Harry halfcup (I love this bra <3): http://www.ebay.de/itm/Panache-Lingerie-Cleo-Harry-Bra-White-NEW-Select-Size-/310306594991?pt=UK_Women_s_Lingerie&var=&hash=item483fb6e0af (Cleo plunges are no good, though - those were the only other ones I found in my quick search.)
Freya halfcups come in 36C or B. E.g. http://www.ebay.de/itm/Brand-New-Freya-Patsy-Padded-Half-Cup-Bra-1223-Lime-VARIOUS-SIZES-/140855584717?pt=UK_Women_s_Lingerie&var=&hash=item20cba5a7cd or http://www.ebay.de/itm/NEW-Freya-Monet-Padded-Half-Cup-Bra-4631-Fruits-Sizes-30-38-B-G-Cups-/121034362161?pt=UK_Women_s_Lingerie&var=&hash=item1c2e35cd31 Pick the Freya halfcups with only vertical (not horizontal) seams - they usually work better.
Fauve halfcups also come in 36B or C, e.g. (love this one too): http://www.ebay.de/itm/New-Fauve-Lingerie-Brianna-Plunge-Half-Cup-Bra-Black-RRP-48-0031-VARIOUS-SIZES-/190770067431?pt=UK_Women_s_Lingerie&var=&hash=item2c6ac837e7 or: http://www.ebay.de/itm/Brand-New-Fauve-by-Fantasie-Merissa-Padded-Half-Cup-Bra-0151-Olive-VARIOUS-SIZES-/190683528707?pt=UK_Women_s_Lingerie&var=&hash=item2c659fbe03
OMG, I'm getting greeeeeen with envy now - I have to stop! You're spoilt for choice in that size, really! Sooo many great bras for wide root shallow breasts and at such great prices :-). All the bras I've linked have been tested by women with this breast type btw. and should work unless you need extremely wide wires.
Edit: Of course all the Calvin Kleins I have put on here should also come in those sizes ;-). -
HI,
Thank you so much! I do have one question maybe you or someone else can help me out on. The people at True&Co, when I returned the bras, suggested I go UP a bandsize to 38. They said the cups would be wider and someone else on here said the cups would be wider if I went up to a 38. Most 36 bras wont fit around me, but with a 38 i am usually straight away hooking the bra in the middle, then about a month later I am on the third tightest set.I realize some brands yes, I will be a 38 or even a 34, but does anyone on here think I should just go with 38 to start? I am thinking that my cups running over is a sign of too small cups, and then I should work with band ? Honestly this bra feels good in the band and the cups are whats too small, right? I did have a CK bra in 38A that was too big in the band and small in the cup, so maybe 36B or 36C for CK?

I'd go with the 36 band, because you say that with a 38 you are usually straight away hooking the bra in the middle, then about a month later you are on the third tightest set. If a particular 36 ist too tight at the beginning (e.g. the Cleo Harry), just wear it with an extension (just extend 1-2 hooks) until the band stretches a bit.
Maybe you can compare the bras measurements on here with your too small 36B bra's to work out what cup size you'd need in the Freya, Fauve or Cleo halfcups. Look at sister sizes, e.g. a 28E's cups should be the same size as the 36B's, 30E the same as 36C.
Btw. the bras I linked give most people a much nicer shape than CKs. Cks for me are fine for every day, though. -
Thank you,
Yeah I dont know. 38 bands feel better on me but its bra fitters that tell me they are too big, but I measure almost 35 around and am small chested, which would tell me I am a 38A lol. Dont care so much about the number its just weird that I am told I am a 36 and none fit.

if the 36s all feel too small it could be because the cup is too small. if your breasts aren't fitting into the cups, they could be spilling out under the band, making it feel like it's too tight. if you have any laying around you can try fastening them backwards so that your boobs aren't in the cups and seeing if they still feel too tight.
-
hello,
thank you for your comment. I have been told by all kinds of fitters I am 36A lol, yet I bust out of those and they put me in 36B. A few online services also have me at 36B (Lindas, braologie, True & Co.) Yet the bands dont fasten or feel way too tight. A fitter did try a 34C on me, but the band actually broke and I had to buy the bra! This bra does come in 34E, would it be worth a try? I have been told too on this site to try a wider underwire, but what brands have that? I am very limited where I live. Most days lately I am almost 35 underbust, so maybe 36D too?
