Issue resolved
After trying some bras with smaller band sizes, I'm definitely going to decrease my cup size and that should solve it, hopefully entirely.
Original problem
I was just wondering if anybody could give me some advice on this? I'm only just starting to iron out my issues with bras and find ones that actually fit properly, but I'm pretty sure I have my cup size right, even if my band size is wrong, since my nipples tend to pop out if I go a cup size down. So I was wondering if I was wrong about my cup size (although I'm pretty confident about that, since I measured it properly), or whether I'm having this problem because of the type of bra this is combined with the shape of my breasts? It's apparently a demi bra, and my breasts are full on the bottom. Any thoughts?
EDIT: I should probably mention that this is an issue in both of the demi cups I have that are the proper cup size.

helpfulI believe that this cup size is far too big for you. Not only do you not fill out the top of the cup at all (looks like the cup might be too tall on you - another possible sign of being too big) but you have a clear gap all the way down to the gore. This shows me the cup is far too big. Probably one cup size in this particular bra. Having said that, different bra styles and bra companies are going to fit differently do you might fill out another bra in the same size just fine.
What are your measurements? Just by looking at the pictures the band looks like it fits you though like you said.
I'm also willing to bet that the bra style just might not fit you very well. Bottom heavy breasts also have problems filling out the top of the cup in a cup that is "the proper size" otherwise (though as I said I think this one is too big). You said that if you go a cup size down your nipples pop out - so I think this bra might have too wide of a gore for you combined with a cup shape not working well.
I'd try searching on bratabase for bras that work well with FOB breasts. Also, Ewa Michalak CHs are supposed to be great for FOB.

Not a problem! :)
Gotcha, it's hard to tell about bands from a picture sometimes - I was just going by the picture and it was not appearing to ride up (too loose) or make the cups form S-shapes (too tight). That makes sense what you're saying about it too big and it's on the third hook and you can stretch it really far then. Since that's the case I'd definitely try a band size or two down which it appears that you have found a possible size based on measurements (32E).
I'm not sure if they are a problem for wide set breasts (I have wide set, FOB breasts and I typically am around a 32/30 E/F depending on the bra manufacturer and never have problems). However, I was just thinking that maybe if the cups are too far apart and you size down in the cup then maybe the gore is wide. It could also be that the band is too large so if you size down in the cup, but, keep the same band size then it could not fit right either.
I know that for mine which are also semi-soft with narrow roots that either full coverage works best or the Half-Cup variety (specifically Ewa Michalak CHP). So maybe look for some in that style? Honestly for me, I thought I had found the right fit and style and then that was completely turned upside down because I kept trying new styles and manufacturers! So, it just takes a lot of patience and work to find bras that fit awesomely amazing!
You're going to be hard-pressed to find some good fitting VS bras in that size (I think?). I'd recommend if you are willing to try some UK brands (could try reddit, bratabase, and ebay for some cheap NWOT ones to try). That's how I found one manufacturer and style I liked a lot :)
Good luck! Happy bra hunting!

Yeah, haha, I've found that I have a choice: tighten my bra straps and have them stay on my shoulders properly, or leave them too loose and have them falling off all the time but the back not riding up. I usually go with the latter.
Hmm. I guess I'll just have to experiment and see what's going on there, but I know I definitely have to size down with the band size.
I'm honestly not a huge fan of VS as a company anyway, so I think I'm gonna let them go and try other things.
Thank you for your time and assistance!

It's really impossible to tell if a cup size is right with a band that's much too wide, because anything you've scooped and swooped in isn't going to stay in the cups if the band is too long.
To find good bra models for you this might be helpful: http://www.bratabase.com/profile/65y/adventures/1530/
If you close the band of this bra by tying a knot, making it tight enough in this way, do the cups fit without gapping? -
Oh I see! I didn't know that.
Yes that seems like it'll be very useful thank you!! I've actually ordered one of the bras on that list, since I tried it on in the store and really liked it.
Thanks for your help!

helpfulWhat happens when you pull the band band a lot, do the cups come closer to your body? Do you have access to a 32 E or 32DD, once your in the right band size cup size is a lot easier to determine. Can you try on a bra with a 32 band? Sorry I know your asking about shape, I got sidetracked http://www.bralessinbrasil.com/2012/10/bottom-heavy-breasts.html

I just tried, and seems like they do a little bit.
I don't have one yet, but I've ordered some, so I'll be able to try those on and find out!
No, no, thank you for your reply!! And thank you for that linking me to that blog post, too!

helpfulTo me it looks like the bra is all-around too big; the cups, the center gore, the band, and the straps! The cups might not gap so much with a smaller band and shorter straps. This band causes the cups to be way too far apart for your breasts, and your breasts aren't getting a bit of support. Also, if that is supposed to be a "demi" bra, then I'm thinking the cups are definitely way too big. Aren't demi's usually cut so the breasts sort of lay on top of them? (I'm not very familiar with demi-cups). That might be why you have that huge gap where the bra thinks breast tissue should be. My recs are to try a 34 band, and maybe even a 32, and to try a C or even a B cup in this style. A 34C will have a completely different fit, and it will likely give you support and shaping. I have very similar problems with certain cup shapes, and I think I've decided to avoid this shape altogether. It's too "iffy".

In hindsight, I have no idea why I mentioned demi cups, as the bra I'm wearing isn't listed as one.
I'm definitely trying things lower in band size, but I don't think I'm going to need to drop more than one cup size. Thanks for your input!

helpfulI agree that you need to try some 32s before making a call on the cups! I'd probably try 32Ds, 32DDs, and 32Es. It also depends which brand you're trying (American vs UK sizing around the DD+ range is pretty different). Also, you said you measured yourself and need a 32 band. Did you get to that number after adding inches to your measurement? Or was that just the underbust measurement?

Yeah, trying a range of them is probably a good idea.
And I added two inches to the underbust measurement.

Thank you for replying!
Alright! I'll shop around and experiment a bit - try the bra I have in a smaller cup size, check out different bras with the same cup size, see how that all goes.
The band here is actually far too large - like I said, it's a 36, but when I measured myself, I found my band size was actually 32. It's on the third hook in the picture, and I can STILL stretch it back very far. My bust came out to a 38, so that'd make me a 32E (UK), so the cup size was right.
I didn't even consider the gore as an issue, it's not something I'm used to thinking about. Are wide gores typically a problem for wide-set breasts?
I'll do that! Thank you for all of your help and suggestions!
