Right size, wrong stule. Thanks ladies!
Original problem
HI,
I am honestly HAPPY with how this bra fits. It is much better than any other I have asked for help on. The band and cups feel great. I don't feel the cups are too small on this one, but this bra in a 38 band did feel better. However, it did ride up and I could hook it on the tightest setting. The cups dont gape and they dont cut in either, but I would still like thoughts on how the cups and band fit. In one pic they appear a smidge small, but this bra is very comfy. I think eventually I will need to size up in the cup, but think the C is ok for now? This bra is convertible and can be worn 4 ways, but the straps as they are right now are too far apart. Would changing the straps to racerback, halter or strapless mode help that? This bra seems sort of tight in back but is stretchy, and the 38 is definetly too big,so does this 36 seem ok? It fits much more comfortably than the Barely There balconette! All thoughts on the bra fit are welcomed and yes, I might soon need to cup size up. I also wanted to point out that in one pic it looks like the band is folded under or going up (pic three I think), but that is actually how the bra band is made.

helpfulYou need bras for shallower breasts. Try b. temptd Ciao Bella. The part where you can indent in the cup with your finger means it's the wrong shape.

Being able to push it in slightly means that the cup is too deep for you. The fact that it also curves back pretty severely into your boob indicates that it's also too closed on top for you. You need cups that aren't so deep and more open on top. Many cheap department store bands like Bali and all the other companies that are owned by that same brand just don't do that because they construct their bras so that they can hide fit issues on women who need a drastically larger cup, so they make them not so shallow.
b. temptd goes up to 38 band at least right?
Perhaps you can try the Thrill Me by Curvy Kate? They run pretty small in the cup and loose in the band and it's pretty shallow.
-
HI Jillsas,
Curvy kate Thrill me starts at a D cup (at least the ones I saw online), and no matter what anyone says thats not my cup size, at least not yet. The b. tempted does go up to a 38 band, so if the 36C doesnt work there is a possibility that the 38 will. I am keeping my fingers crossed! I think this bra fits me a lot better than the other one or two you helped me on though at least?
-
Jillsas,
On second thought, if the Curvy kate really does run small in the cup, maybe a D would fit? I think that would be another viable option.
RADIO
-
I agree, it does look pretty good, maybe similar to the lilac and white pattern [maidenform I think?] compared to what it has been.
The Thrill Me can run small in the cup. They definitely run smaller than the brands you have been trying. If your normal band size (36 right?) with the D is too big, it runs large enough in the band at the least that you could probably try the 34D with an extender.
-
Hi,
The lilac pattern bra was Barely There and really pretty, but, the 36C was too small in the cups (pointed out to me by Nesoa), which according to her also made it look tight in the band. It felt too tight as well, yet in the D, the cups was so large that when I sat down it hurt because the wires almost went around to my back.
Lots of 36 bands honestly seem too small no matter what cup size I try, but not sure why that is. The cup on this bra believe it or not, does run more shallow than the Barely there. I held them up together. I also tried on a bra called Gilligan Omally favorite balconette because I heard its great for wide-root boobs, but it was very bad. The lace on the cups didnt lie flat on my skin, and although the 36 band did not feel too tight, it looked awful and like it was cutting in. What worries me is that the b. tempted looks identical to the bra I tried on and is also in lace, which might not lie flat.
-
Did you try 36D or 34D in the barely there?
Good luck with the b. temptd. Just because a bra looks similar doesn't mean it fits the same. For example, the b. temptd How Gorgeous is terrible on shallow breasts, but the cut looks almost identical to the Ciao Bella.
-
HI,
The 36D in the Barely there was too big in the cup, it just had too much depth. I could fit both breasts in one cup, seriously! In that one I would be an almost D, if they made that. I did not try a 34D simply because there is not one 34 that I can even fasten. 36 is hard enough to get to fit.
Its funny you mentioned the How Gorgeous. I saw some other B. Temptd bras that do look similar to the Ciao Bella, and I saw one with a nice wide band, and was thinking of trying them. I will hold off on those though as it seems that the ciao bella might be the only one that works for wide set breasts.
-
I'm seconding the suggestion of a thrill me or a tease me - and I would recommend you getting a 34 band - the bands are super stretchy so I think a 36 would just be too big. The cups are very open on top and the wires are very wide- I doubt you'll have a problem of having empty space in the cup!
Also it probably will feel very snug when you try it, as your so used to wearing a 38 band which is far too big for you, so wearing it with an extender for a couple of weeks might be a good idea.
-
Hi Vintage and thank you,
These run smaller in the cup, so then I could get away with a D do you think?I would have to look on ebay for these because my town doesnt sell them. I am going to ask about cup fit but am posting it up above to Noob, but hope you can advise me as well.

Jillsas,
I have a quick question on cups fitting as you have seen my other fit requests. Honestly the B cup bras feel better on me in the cup, but most folks on here seem to think the B cups are too small. I know a 36 band feels too tight with a B cup, but honestly, C seems a smidge too big.I fill the cup entirely when sitting. I dont get gaping or even have to really tighten the straps in this bra, but I can pull the cup a little bit away from my body on top. Should a cup be so tight that I cannot move it at all?
RADIO
-
If the cup is that tight, it's probably too small. It's sad that there aren't any good unpadded bras in your size, because dealing with that issue is so much easier when the bra isn't padded. How far away can you pull the cup?
As for comfort, you know best, and I can't tell you what is comfortable to you and what isn't. If too small cup feels better, by all means do it.
-
One More Jillsas,
I was on herroom.com and got some advice on cup fit, and now I am wondering if I am really more of a 38A or so? That site seems to think a too small band can make the cups a problem.
What they say is:
If your underwire is sitting on your breast tissue instead of in your under breast crease, first make sure you put your bra on correctly. Reach in to your bra cups and pull up your breasts into the cups so that your breast tissue is above the underwire. If your breasts are now shooting out the top, you need a bigger cup size. If your breasts look fine now, you have the correct cup size. If your underwires are digging into you on the sides, this is another symptom that you need to go up a cup size. There is also the possibility that your band size is too tight. If you are on your last hook, and your bra is literally pulling the underwires apart so that they are not following your breast crease, your band size is too small. Go up a band size and down a cup size in this case to see if it feels more comfortably. For example, go from a 36DD to a 38D. Conversely, if your underwires are resting below your bra crease and your bra can not be pulled up into the right position, this is a symptom of your band being too tight. The band is sliding down your torso to a more narroer point on your body. In this case, go up a band size and down a cup size. Finally, bra manufacturers use a variety of underwire shapes in different bra styles. If your bra fits great except the underwires seem wrong, this could simply mean this particular style of bra is not for you. -
I would not trust Herroom fitting advice within an inch of my life. That being said, they got it right up until the "Conversely, if you under wires are resting below your bra crease..." What causes that is bad underwire/cup compatibility with your breasts. If the band was too tight, it wouldn't be able to slight down very naturally.
Based on what I see of you in the 36 bands, I don't think you're wearing a too tight band. I think 36 is your best band size personally. The signs of a too tight band just aren't there for you. They do exist on some, but not in any of your cases, as I can't see any wire distortion.
I really think your issues boil down to style.
-
Thank you Jillsas,
I think you are right, because in the 36 band in this black bra, the band feels great. It felt pretty good too in the Barely There which is also a balconette. It DOES come down to a matter of style. It seems as well that the wider bands in 36 seem to be more flattering and comfortable. I have a 36B full coverage that I was fitted into professionally, but its honestly not the right bra cup fit or style, yet the band is great. Will reply to your other comment. You might be right about herroom. They are still advocating the plus 4 method. We all know how that worked out.

Hi,
Once again you are right about the cups. On that red bra where the band was too large and cup too small, sure, I couldnt pull the cup out on top at all but I had wires poking slightly into breast tissue, and tissue spillage. I do think this bra is close, very close and workable but do appreciate anyones advice if they think otherwise. I think its better than the red bra that some said was workable, even though it was too big in the band. I can pull the cup away maybe a thumb widths worth, but it doesnt stay that way . Goes right back to my chest. I would like to try and find unpadded or unlined bras in my size, but like you said, they are just not easy to get at. I also have the problem of my nipples showing through in those bras. If anyone knows of an unpadded or unlined that might work I would love to know.RADIO
-
Unfortunately, nearly no bras that are unpadded work on shallow breasts. That being said, there are way more unpadded bras that have potential in your size than I even knew, since I'm not really an expert in conventional sizes. Just a cursory search of figleaves yielded:

That's part of the reason I suggested tease me, the cups do run small so even if you don't technically fit into a d cup in an unpadded style, the cut on the tease me will make up for it. It's available online: try figleaves for the current colour, but the figleaves outlet and brastop both have past colours for sale at really good discounts- both deliver worldwide.
I think, from looking at your past fitting issues, that a lot of your difficulties stems from the fact that the majority of the bras you have tried on are all moulded t-shirt bras of one sort or another- many of them are also cut high - which, because your breasts are not molded tshirt bra shaped (hardly anyone's are), only serve to hold your boobs in place against your ribcage- especially at the top of the cups, where they appear to flatten your boobs in this bra- rather than support and give you uplift - this will in turn make the band feel too snug. A good example of this is when I was wearing a bady fitting 32f I felt very constricted, and I did try some 34 bands as I felt like everything was so tight around me- I was then professionally fitted into a 32gg and voila- actually a 32 is big on me- wearable but big :). So ill fitting cups can make the band feel uncomfortable.
You should really try some half cups with vertical seams - they are harder to get hold of and you will have to go online to buy them, but it's worth it. The open on the top shape will help you I think and the vertical seams lift everything upwards and more centre.
I actually think that the fit on this bra is ok- probably one of the best you have tried, tho the 36d looked pretty good too. I think this bra will be wearable for a few months, tho after that you'll probably find that you start to quadraboob out of it as you get tissue migration.
-
Hi,
I did check on those Curvy Kate bras. The cheapest one I could find in 34D or so was 73 dollars, and right now that is too pricey for me. Bras that are not molded cup are hard to find it seems. I have on order a b.tempted ciao bella bra, hoping that might be a good option? Vee linked me to a list of bras that are good for shallow breasts but I feel my options are very limited now.
RADIO
-
HI,
According to Amazon.com the Tease Me has a moulded cup, so actually would that not be a wise choice?
RADIO
-
Really? I'm based in the uk, so going of uk prices and converting them in to US dollars, but currently brastop have a 34d tease me for sale for £14.95 + £6.95 shipping which even with a really bad exchange rate only comes to around $35.
The B.tempted shape looks good - but I'd say that the band and straps look very thin - but overall I think that the shape itself is a better shape for you.
-
The tease me is moulded- but not like a t shirt bra - your not going to have a full cup that is moulded with stiff padding to completely encase all your boobs (including the top). Instead the (very soft) padding is used to add stability and support to the cup - so the underwire, vertical seams and padding all work together to lift your boobs from their root.
A lot of the bras you have been trying seem to have been from very similar manufacturers (using my limited knowledge of the us market) - they all seem to work on the idea that a moulded full cup hides a multitude of fit issues - a stiffer moulded cup that covers a lot of area will look like it fits to an untrained eye- and it will squash your tissue into the shape the bra needs; whereas there is no where to hide in a good quality balconette or half cup, a bad fit will show up straight away, and the seams of the bra do the work- your not relying on a piece of foam to match your shape completely.
-
The Tease Me might be too deep for RADIO. The Thrill Me is shallower, and works better on smaller breasts than the Tease Me.
Belle Lingerie is selling the Thrill Me for about $20: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Brasnd-New-Curvy-Kate-Lingerie-Thrill-Me-Bra-SG3001-Jade-Fuschia-VARIOUS-SIZES-/200818915738?pt=UK_Women_s_Lingerie&var=&hash=item2ec1bd799a
The Ciao Bella is a great option. It works on many many women.
-
HI Jillsas,
I noticed this bra is 34D. I am selling all my old bras except the one I jut bought, and I noticed that the one I just bought is longer in the band than all other 36 bras I am selling. In fact it is the same length of the 38b Barely There balconette which I didnt picture on here. Should I wait to see if I can find this in a 36 band? Not sure it even comes in that.
RADIO
-
The one you're wearing in this fit check is longer stretched? Unstretched? Both? Sorry, I'm a bit confused.
The Thrill Me runs really loose (I tried a 32 band and it felt looser than the 34 bands I was accustomed to). I honestly think that a 36 band will be ridiculously huge on you in that bra, in addition to the fact that it doesn't come in 36C. Do you have any extenders lying around that you could use on a 34D in case the band is too tight?
-
Hi Jillsas,
This bra pictured in the fit check is longer unstretched. Not sure if it is stretched longer though. Thank you for the link to that bra in 34D. I bought it and will post for help on it when it comes.
RADIO
-
Unstretched length on its own tells you nothing about how a band will fit. The stretched length tells you how long it can get when worn, which is really what you want to know; while the stretched and unstretched length TOGETHER tell you how much stretch the material has. I've had bras with only 2 inches of stretch, and other bras with over 10 inches of stretch. But seeing how long two bras are "when at rest" tells you nothing about which one will feel tighter when worn.
-
1
helpfulSeconding the recommendation that you look for bras with shallow cup shape and open cup rim. You will probably find that in a cup the proper shape for you (wider in the wires but with less projection) you could go up to 36D at least some of the time. If bras in a 36 band have felt tight most of the time, it is likely because the underwires are too narrow for your shallow breasts and thus are uncomfortably sitting on breast tissue. That doesn't feel good in *any* band tension.
The bra in this fit check does not suit your shape, and the molded cup only serves to somewhat disguise that fact unfortunately.

Hi
Thank you. I am going to try the ciao Bella and maybe curvy Kate thrill me. I hope those work because I will be out of options otherwise . Stores here apparently don't sell anything I can wear.
Radio -
Most women who are properly fitted cannot shop in brick and mortar stores. There just aren't enough stores that stock all styles in even most of the sizes - hell, most don't even stock the most popular properly fitted sizes.
Personally I have never purchased a bra from a physical store that actually fit me.
Asos.com has free shipping and free postage-paid returns, while Nordstrom.com and some items on Amazon.com have free shipping and free postage-paid returns in the US. This makes it easy to try stuff without losing a bunch of money in shipping. Sometimes the items are marked up a bit more from these retailers, but once you know whether or not it fits you can send it back and buy the bra again cheaper from Bratabase.com, reddit.com/r/Braswap, or ebay.co.uk.
Even in 34J I haven't paid more than $30 for a bra I don't think.
-
I think you are right, I might not be able to do the normal store thing for my bras, and thats ok, online is easier for me anyway being handicapped. What do you think of Jillsas' suggestion to try the Ciao Bella by b.tempted and the Curvy kate thrill me/ I have those being sent to me and the one I can exchange if it doesnt fit.
-
Those are definitely highly recommended bras for shallow shape. I'm not shallow, personally, so I don't have much personal experience to share :) (I'm also quite far out of the cup size ranges on both, so shape aside that would just never work out haha).
Here's a really great resource on shallow breasts which includes a list of what other bras have worked for shallow women frequently: http://www.reddit.com/r/ABraThatFits/wiki/shallow

Thank you uptight! Have two bras on order and will report back soon.

helpfulConsidering you have it on the tightest setting already, it's worth looking at 34Ds (or even 34Cs, bras surprise you sometimes). The geometry does change when you go up or down band sizes, so maybe that will help with the straps.
Do you have narrow shoulders? I'm petite, and most balconette style bras attach a little too far apart for me. If you love everything else about the bra, you could get it altered to attach closer in. In the future, there are different shapes that might work better for the strap issue: http://blog.butterflycollection.ca/2012/10/5-reasons-your-bra-straps-slip.html
Molded cups complicate the fitting process, because it's difficult to tell exactly how you fill out the cups. Did you scoop? http://bustyresources.wikia.com/wiki/How-to_put_on_a_bra

Hi NeverTookHomeEc,
Actually this is bra is on the LOOSEST setting. I tried on the 38B as well, and that had to be on the tightest. I dont think I am all that wide shouldered. This issue is new for me, but the cup isnt particularly molder. It is more lightly lined. I can easily push the cups inside out and in padded or molded bras I cannot. I did scoop and swoop. The model in the picture on the bra label of course was hanging out all over, but I dont know if I am supposed to as well? The B cup was way too small, bulging all over the place. D was too big and I could fit a hand between me and the cup. The last time I tried a convertible the straps were also too far apart but it helped when I converted them. Please dont think I am trying to defend this bra fit, I do think your suggestions for the strap issue are going to be included in future bra purchases. Would love more thoughts.
-
HI again,
As far as I can tell there is no extra space in the cups here, just I dont look like the model on the bra tag.
RADIO
-
Everyone,
I added pics bending over to show how breasts fill cup, a pic to show where my nipple is in the cup, and one trying to show where the underwire ends. Its just about directly under my armpit.
-
Ah, I guess I misread. If it's comfortable, doesn't ride around, and seems to fit all your fitting checkmarks, then hey! It fits! Don't worry that you don't look like the model: models rarely fit the bras they're wearing, and everyone's boob tissue and bodies are different anyway. The lightly lined cup should be fine, but it's worth looking at unlined styles too, to see what shapes work best for your shape.
Also keep in mind that if you have been wearing a too-small cup for a while, you probably have breast tissue outside of the boob area. Wearing well-fitted bras will encourage your tissue to move back, and you'll eventually see a change in shape. That will affect how bras fit in the future. If you want to learn more about breast tissue migration, Venusian Glow talks a lot about it on her blog, and so does Maheda on hers (mostly Polish, I think). Also worth reading is Butterfly Bras' blog, linked above. She has so much information about fitting, I can't start to repeat it here
A well-fitted bra usually does not have cleavage unless it's a plunge, meant for cleavage, or your breasts just have so much volume that there is no other place for your boobs to go. I'm a 28GG or so and I rarely have cleavage in my everyday bras.
-
Hi NeverTookHomeEc,
Thank you for helping me.The bra doesnt ride around, but I guess the reason I ask for fitting help is because my fit check marks are off lol. Every time I seem to think a bra fits, like in my last two fit requests, I get a bunch of feedback telling me the bra does not fit, and then I can tell that those bras do not. I am not good yet at telling what works for me, so I rely on others help.
Yes, I do have migrated tissue and for some time I have been in too big a band and too small a cup. I get sized at 36A believe it or not, and up until last year, was told I was a 38A, so for about 5 years at least my size has been wrong. I think you are right about my shape will eventually change. It seems to be happening already, which is why I think some 36 bands finally feel ok on me and why a C cup is starting to work for me too.
This bra does say its a plunge, so should I be concerned about no cleavage after all? Every other plunge I have seen has practically no center gore ( like a little strip of material connecting the cups), but this gore to me is like a regular bra.
I do have a question on unlined bras. I have been wanting to try them, but have heard that if you have prominent nipples those bras should be avoided? Mine show through quite easily. I will read the Venusian post again, it sometimes doesnt load.
-
It is worth mentioning here that bras are either molded or they have seams. Those are the only ways to turn flat fabric round. This bra most certainly a molded cup, it just has a lighter or more malleable lining than most padded molded bras. For an example of an unlined molded bra, see the @elomi Asia.
-
HI,
The ladies at Lindas online suggested a more malleable cup which this does have, but I am guessing this wont work on me either. I have seen those Elomi bras and they are pretty. Might they work with my shape?
-
Linda's has a pretty terrible reputation. There are many molded cup bras - even padded ones - that work swimmingly for shallow shape. Very few unlined bras do, however; lined and padded seamed bras are the only thing "more malleable" that would work for you given the existing manufacturer selection. But even then you would need to be very careful to avoid any cups that have horizontal seams. Shallow shapes require vertical seams only.
Elomi's range begins at 34D, and many of their models run large. However they do have a few that might work for shallow shape. Off the top of my head, the Elomi Smoothing Foam Underwire (1220) and Elomi Ophelia Underwire Plunge Molded Foam Cup (8390) might be worth trying if you can do so without significant cost. The Asia, Hermione, Valentina, Suzie, and Caitlyn will almost certainly not work, however.
Could I ask what your bust measurement is when taken leaning forward?
-
HI,
I did notice those bras are costly, but they may be worth a try if I can get one at a nice price. Leaning forward my bust measurment is around 38. Standing up is 37. I dont know how accurate self measuring is, but that is about what I get.
RADIO
-
HI,
I will say too that Lindas also told me to try 38C. I think there are some bands where I still may be a 38 , but if I am inthe right STYLE of bra I think its much more likely 36C or D.
-
Your underbust measurement listed on this fit check is 34.5". Is that loose? Snug? Exhaling and pulling as tight as possible until you die and your tape snaps?
If your underbust measures 34.5 at any tension you should never be wearing 38 bands. That just isn't a thing. There's no way it would give you any support. The smallest 38 band I've seen had a stretched length of 37", which is not going to keep underwires in place on such a little ribcage as yours :P
-
HI,
34.5 is comfortable. Loose is 35. Pulling the tape measure really tight is 33. Bra fitters have tried me in 34 bands, but they barely hooked and greatly restricted my breathing. Most 36 bands feel way too tight on me as well, no matter what cup size, so I am thinking that the tightness may be also due to the wrong style? I think that was suggested to me on this site. But yes, 38 bands I can hook on the tightest setting. I have a 36C in ciao bella on order and the 34D curvy kate thrill me. Keeping my fingers crossed on both.
RADIO
-
Next time you're in a shop, grab any old 34 band bra and try it on backwards and upside down (clasps in the front on your sternum, cups on your lower back). If it feels like you can't breathe or causes pain on the loosest hook, then for sure too small. If it just feels firm and a little uncomfortable, then it just needs to be broken in. Wearing an extender for the first couple of weeks with a new bra (depending on how often you wear it - I'm assuming a rotation of every 3 days or so) is pretty common.
"I am thinking that the tightness may be also due to the wrong style?"
That statement is spot on. If the underwires are too narrow or the cup is too shallow or a multitude of other cup problems that cause the cup not to hold all of the breast tissue, the band has to hold that breast volume instead. This pulls the band tighter than it would be if the cups fit you properly. This is why it is often recommended to try on bra bands in the way I described above; it assesses the fit of the band only, without cup size influencing the fit.
With your measurements I would certainly recommend trying 34 bands again.
Good luck with your next order!
-
HI,
I have done that with 34s, sadly. They restrict breathing on me. Now, in the red bra I asked for fitting help on, I could go for a 34 band but that bra only goes to a C cup so there I am sized out. Considering where I am right now, from wearing a 38, I need to be gradual to size down in the band. I am taking a risk I think with a 34D in Curvy Kate, but, if that band does run bigger that bra may work.
-
About the nipples: Don't be afraid of them! They're just nipples! If you're worried about your nipples showing in Important Situations, then wear a cami or a molded/lined cup in those scenarios. But unlined, seamed cups are great for figuring out what works on your body, the shape of your boobs, and letting your boobs migrate. Stiffer cups really make the figuring more difficult, and thick cups can continue to distort the boobs.
Personally, I think the whole fear of nipples is a ploy by certain companies that only sell molded cups. Seamed cups usually have a seam running across the nipple, which can make it seem less prominent.

Hi lara,
I am still unsure of the cups in this one, as C really still seems too big, but in my other fit requests, people told me the B was too small. This advice from Herroom.com makes me wonder if the band size is really the problem:
If your underwire is sitting on your breast tissue instead of in your under breast crease, first make sure you put your bra on correctly. Reach in to your bra cups and pull up your breasts into the cups so that your breast tissue is above the underwire. If your breasts are now shooting out the top, you need a bigger cup size. If your bra fits great except the underwires seem wrong, this could simply mean this particular style of bra is not for you.

helpfulI agree with lara, this looks like a pretty good fit on you .
The straps don't look that far apart, but you can always move them closer if its uncomfortable.Updated on June 3, 2013 Flag this

Hi Noob,
Thank you! I am finding that demi, balconette, etc, are VERY hard to find in the stores where I live. Almost everything was full coverage, and even in the right size bra, full coverage cups give me way too much fabric up on top. I spent a good hour trying bras on in the all shapes and styles and was about to give up, when I saw this one bra on the rack that I did miss. Its super comfortable.

Hi Jillsas,
I can't indent on this bra but all bras I have ever tried, even for shallow breasts, I can push in slightly. I was just pointing to where my nipple ends because I heard that where your nipple ends indicates cup fits or not. I do have a b.temptd on order but dont think that bra will fit. I need a wide band like this bra has.
