Bra fitting help » Should I try 32FF or 32G?

Issue resolved
I need to start trying larger cup sizes.
Original problem
This is a beautiful bra and I feel the style suits my shape well, but the cups are too small. The one shown is a 32F, should I try the 32FF or 32G? I cannot currently find it in those sizes at a retailer with a good return policy, so I'd like to get it right on the second shot at least. I'm really at the beginning of my adventure to find some properly fitting bras after years of getting by with what I could find in US stores, so I will be grateful for any help. Thanks!

helpfulThis is going to look like a crazy test, but it looks like there's a 4cm increase from F to G, and the computer assumes that an FF would have a 2cm increase from F:
http://www.bratabase.com/compare/dhnfe/?direction=&order_by=cup_depth
Looking at this you could probably pull the center gore away from your chest, 2 and 4cm and see which result fits you best and then decide?
PS: These numbers are user submitted and also have averages from the site, so please consider that they might not be accurate :-/

helpfulOkay, this is gonna be lengthy... Have you checked out BIHAL's post about boob shape? If you haven't read through this post! http://brasihate.blogspot.se/2013/02/clarifying-breast-shape-full-on-top-vs.html
You've marked your shape as full on top and to me it looks like that's right, but if you haven't checked out the post, do so If you have broad shoulders you're really lucky in the bra world because bra straps can be set too far out even for women with average-width shoulders I have horrible time with it because I'm very petite (5 feet tall). It's also obvious that the underwires aren't resting directly below the crease of your boobs. Check this out http://brasandbodyimage.wordpress.com/2012/09/05/putting-your-bra-on-properly/ it's a post about how to put on your bra properly and what a difference it may have. Also, are you swooping and scooping? Here's my video on how to swoop and scoop http://prettynpetitej.blogspot.se/2013/03/too-big-band-and-my-way-of-swooping-and.html
It seems to me you have a fair amount of migrated breast tissue on your back and A LOT of your breast tissue isn't contained inside the cups! I must know if you've swooped and scooped before recommending a size, and I must see pictures of you wearing the bra with the underwires resting directly below the crease of your boobs, not an inch or so lower! If the bra isn't positioned correctly, a lot of the cup volume isn't used where it should be; where the boobs are! The band seems to be alright but I'd advice you to wear a bra that has more than two hooks in the back, mostly for support, but also for tackling migrated breast tissue and get it to migrate back! (If that's something you'd be interested in) Here's a post on migrated breast tissue: http://www.venusianglow.com/2009/09/get-rid-of-armpit-rolls-in-5-seconds.html
I hope this was helpful! Get back to me!

I'm glad to help! :) If you have any questions regarding this bra (I don't have it but I'm not exactly new to bra fitting so I have an eye for it :) ), just ask! You should always trust your own judgement, sometimes we're not able to see what you're experiencing, but sometimes we're able to see what you're not aware of :) You'll get better at recognizing a good fit! In the meantime, just feel free to ask us anything! :D I have yet to find a mean girl here on Bratabase. I'd very much appreciate if you put up some new pictures later :)

I added a picture after I properly scooped and swooped and making sure the wires were as close to the crease as possible and it made a huge difference. This is at least 2 cup size too small and I might even be sized out of this style. I was almost surprised how much looser the band felt! I am so glad for your help. I was doing a pretty poor job of finding my size on my own. Even when you know what to look for it's hard to be objective, especially when the bras you start out wearing were fitting so incredibly bad.

I know the feeling. I'm glad I could help you out! Yeah, when you don't swoop and scoop properly, too small cups can make the band seem smaller because there's tissue under the band that kinda fills out the spot, and also, too small cups put strain on the band since your boobs push out the cups further than they should be pushed out. Kinda weird explanation I guess. In fact, cups shouldn't be pushed out at all :P only filled out. Umm... Could you post new pictures of you wearing the bra? After swooping and scooping and making sure the cups are in line with the crease of your boobs. It would be awesome because then you'll be able to see this later when you've found a bra that truly fits you. I know I didn't take photos of all the bras I tried on in the beginning, and I regret it now because I would've really liked the comparison. Besides, it would help us help you right now! I think you may have a false perception of what "one cup size off" or "two cup sizes too small" is, because I can tell you that even when you hadn't swooped and scooped, you need a bra that has more than two cup sizes up!

I only took the one quick shot (the one with the different background) because I wanted to send it back for a refund as soon as possible. I regret not getting different angles because it is not as obvious how much spillage there is from the front shot alone. I was also taken back by how much tissue was spilling out the sides. I always thought I needed a shorter wire, because I often experience irritation, but that may just be because my whole breast was not in the bra.
I've found the bra measurements feature of this site helpful with comparing brands and styles. I was wondering if you've noticed how close the cup depth corresponds to breast perimeter. I know there are a lot of other factors and there may not be a precise answer, but it may be a helpful place to start.

Too bad you didn't. Oh well :( Just make sure you always take pictures from every angle the next time! (of course, after swooping and scooping and aligning the underwires to your boob crease)
The cup depth of this bra vs. the breast perimeter of yours... It's not that close actually. 6.5 cm apart. You seem to have quite firm boobs and firmer boobs can actually sometimes need a cup depth that is slightly bigger than the breast perimeter. I must advice you not to stare yourself blind on the measurements though :P (that's a Swedish expression, stare yourself blind, I'm not sure it makes sense, but it kinda means that you shouldn't be soooo focused on one thing so that you miss other things). The best advice I can give you is to focus on the fit rather than the numbers. Different brands and different styles and models differ in size even though the tag is the same, so don't focus too much on the numbers and letters. I would advice you to up your starting point size though, a 32F clearly is too small for you in the cup. I'm not totally sure what would be a good starting size but you mentioned that the band felt much looser after swooping and scooping, so maybe your starting size would be a 30" band at least. Cup size though... I'm not too sure because the fit is sooo off! I might be wrong, but I'd say your starting size needs to be like 3-5 cup sizes up!
So that would put you into....
32F --- 32FF --- 32G --- 32GG --- 32H --- 32HH
which is the same cup volume as:
30FF --- 30G --- 30GG --- 30H --- 30HH --- 30J
Unfortunately, I'm unable to pinpoint exactly what would be a good size to try on :( I just wanted to give you a hint though.
I'd probably advice you to try anything on ranging from a 30H to a 30J, but honestly I think you're closer to a 30J than a 30H generally speaking. If you look at one of my fit requests (just click on my username and then click on reputation, scroll down and you'll see my fit requests), namely the Panache Sports 28E, I got a comment saying "The first photo looks the same as i did in my old sports bra that was 4 cup sizes too small!!" If it would've been 4 cup sizes too small, I would've needed a 28GG (28E --- 28F --- 28FF --- 28G --- 28GG). However, even the 28FF was too big for me so the appeance of "4 cup sizes too small" or "2 cup sizes too small" doesn't always have to be remotely true. It just happens to be so that my boobs are shallow (the boob tissue starts just below my collarbone and it distributes itself on a wider base so the weight of my boobs isn't concentrated on a small area, unlike boobs that project a lot) and so the appearance of me wearing too small cups will always seem to be much more umm... "Severe" than it actually is, because my boobs attach higher on my upper body than most women. I need a lot more vertical coverage in sports bras than most women do and I guess that's why she commented like she did. Hmm... I hope I haven't confused you any further x) But if I have, then you know that measurements and appearances don't always have to match up to reality, you just gotta try the bras on and assess the fit from that. Do you know if your boobs are shallow or projected? My guess, based off of the photos would be that they are projected, but I dunno.
Have a look at this :)

Thank you so much for all the helpful information. When trying on bras, it always seemed like I was fuller on top, but I doubted it because they hang rather low when I'm not wearing a bra. By the diagrams, I am now confident that I am fuller on top. I definitely have wide shoulders (19in./48cm) so I rarely have trouble with straps, which I do appreciate.
With an underbust measurement of 31 and 38 over, I started with 32F. I didn't realize how off it was until you pointed out how many ways it was fitting poorly, and this was one of the better-fitting bras I've tried recently.
Also, I knew I had some armpit fat that was migrated breast tissue, but didn't think I had any anywhere else. I did some scooping to get situated in the bra, but I definitely wasn't doing an adequate job from what I now understand. I will have to try it on again, do a better job and re-evaluate. Again, thank you for all the help! I will get back to you when I can try the bra on again.
