Bra fitting help » Too big? Wires too wide? Should I try a 28F/28FF/30E?
Freya » Just Flew In Padded Longline Bra (1393) » 30F 30:7
This is one of my first attempts at a well fitting bra!
I don't have any major issues with this bra, though I know it doesn't fit, so here goes...
-When I bring my shoulders forward or don't have great posture the cups can slightly gape! Not massively though, and it's mainly during wear, so could this be because of the band being too big? And IF I have migrated breast tissue... could this gaping fix over time?
-I think the wires may extend further than my breast tissue?
-Is the band too big? This is brand new and shows the stretch from the tightest hooks!
-When I pull the cups to right under my breast root, the cups gape a little but this can be fixed by tightening the straps... however, if I tighten the straps the back pulls up! Is this due to the cups fitting but band being too big, the band fitting but cups too big, or both cups and band too big?!
I've shown as many pictures as I can to explain myself... and each picture states 'strap tight' or 'strap loose'. I think if the order stays the same, all of the pictures before the picture showing the band stretch are what I mean when the straps are tighter and the band rides up, and the ones after show the loose cups and loose straps etc!
I'm not sure of my root type, or if I have high, low, full on top or bottom, wide or narrow... so if you could help me to determine anything I'd be so grateful!
I think maybe I should try a 28F/28FF/30E? As I think this is probably too big.
Or should I try something like a 28DD? Which I think by the size of my breasts, I would be more suited at!
Thanks!

helpfulWhen you have your shoulders forward, it actually looks like the cup is too small. But this could be because the bra is sitting too low. And if the band keeps riding up, I would say the band is too big. Both of these problems indicate you should go down to a 28 band.
In one of the photos, it looks like you may have some displaced breast tissue. Did you swoop and scoop for these photos? Try it again and see if you have the same issues with the wires and cup fit.
Perhaps try a 28FF

Could I ask why you both think the cups look too small when I'm leaning? Wouldn't this gaping be a sign of being too big?
I for some reason cannot get the bra to sit higher and evenly round my torso, as the back if is any higher will ride up. Also, if I pull it up, I feel that there is too much space in the cups, and the tissue that I pull into it doesn't stay!
Do you have any suggestions with a wide and shallow bra that will help hold my breasts in place?
Thank you both!

helpfulI think a smaller band size would hold the bra closer to your body, so maybe a 28 FF , the cups don't seem large enough to go down a size. Also make sure your are swooping and scooping to get all the tissue in the cups, there appears to be some left over tissue on the side and that would help with the slight gaping.

I definitely think I'd feel more comfortable in a 28 band, I feel like I'm having to adjust a lot in the 30 as because it's a bit big, if I move my boobs fall out from underneath etc. I've just ordered a 28F as they didn't have a 28FF in stock, so I will see how I feel about this, if I think it's too small, I will send it back and wait for the 28FF to come in stock and hopefully that'll be it!
I think I'm swooping and scooping correctly, I've watched videos telling me how. Though, no matter how much I swoop and scoop, I can't get rid of those lumps you can see from the back near my arms, and I end up being empty at the side of the cup or under my breasts or something. I haven't got a clue which bra is good for holding tissue in place, or at least getting migrated breast tissue back!
Thank you!

helpfulI think gaping is pretty common when you bring your arms forward. If your bra is fitting with you standing in a normal position (shoulders back and not slouching) that's usually a good sign. If the band is coming up when you tighten the straps, it's probably too loose. Also Freya's padded half cup bras tend to have wider wires than their non-padded ones, so if the wires are too wide on this one maybe their other styles might work better? I don't have much experience with Freya or longlines (waiting on my first one to come in!) but in general I think if you go down a band size and keep the cup size the same the wires typically get wider, so that might be something to keep in mind.
I wish I had something more concrete to offer. Good luck, I hope you get some better advice soon :]

I have terrible posture so the cups are nearly always gaping and I get paranoid that people will notice and assume I'm wearing a bra far too big! I have the Freya Pollyanna 30E and the wires actually hurt the side of my ribs so maybe I need them a little bit wider than I thought, because it definitely wasn't the band being tight and making it hurt.
With what you have said about going down a band size but keeping the same cup size, do you mean that the 28FF would have wider wires than the 30F? So the 28F would probably be more suited in terms of width, but probably small in the cup?
No, I'm very grateful for what you've said, and please let me know when you've put up your longline!

oh my god! i'm so glad you reminded me. i just got the longline in yesterday :]
i'm not sure about the wire width thing. i thought that was the case but i'm not sure anymore, so maybe get clarification from someone else before taking that at face value :[

I've just had a look! It looks like a great fit on you, and you're lucky it actually turned out to be an FF, F would definitely have been too small I think! I can see what you mean about the wires being a little wide, though, it doesn't look like you have actual space between the breast and wire, just maybe that it carries on going diagonally for too long if you know what I mean! I think it looks brilliant though, I'm jealous! I've ordered a 28F (FF wasn't in stock) so I will see how I get on with that! I literally want to give up, I've spent so much money and it's sooooo stressful, haha!

yeah, i've been spending an obscene amount of money recently. sigh. as for the lumps you were talking about on your back, i dunno that they're breast tissue. i have them too but i am pretty sure mostly its just fat over top of my latissimus dorsi/teres major muscles. if you stand sideways in your bathroom looking at the mirror, grab the counter in front of you and try to pull your arm behind you while not letting it move to contract those two muscles. if it mostly goes away then i don't think that stuff is really gonna go anywhere
edit: also thanks for the nice words :]

Score, thanks Emmeth! I am glad I decided to come check out fitting help requests. I was worried about the gapping while slouching thing. I bought a Freya Deco (it may not be the best for me, but they are just shaped so well) in 30FF, because I had a 30G that did that gapping thing....when I slouched, and only at the very top. The 30FF is, uhhh, unflattering. I get slight quad boob and it looks funny.

helpfulThose cups actually look like they are fitting pretty close to perfectly - it's totally normal for them to gape a bit if you slouch forward - I'd be more concerned if it *didn't* gape under those conditions. You should be checking for fit while standing up straight with your shoulders back. The band also doesn't look half bad, but if you want to sister size to a tighter band, that's probably fine too.

I can understand a bit of gaping, but I feel like mine gape A LOT! In whatever way I move, I get some kind of gap and my boobs get squashed back into the band eventually and the cups look empty! Do you know of any bras that hold soft tissue well?
Thanks for your help!

helpfulI think this bra actually doesn't fit you half bad. I would suggest you try getting it to sit a bit higher on your body though, practice a bit more swooping and scooping and see what happens then.
If you then still really feel it rides up when you tighten the straps, you could consider going down in band size. I wouldn't go down in cup size though: a size smaller will almost certainly be too small. Bear in mind that going down in back size will also change the fit of the cups: generally, a looser back will make the cups seem larger, a tighter back will make the cups seem smaller.
Gapping when moving arms/shoulders forward is perfectly normal, especially with padded/lined bras. Excess space near the wire on one side in case of asymmetrical breasts is, again, perfectly normal.

I've tried pulling it higher, but the back rides up further and the cups become more empty!
I've ordered a 28F as the FF wasn't in stock, so I will see how I get on with that, and if it is slightly on the small side then I will probably do best with a 28FF!
Thanks for your help!

helpfulI know this reply is pretty late, but I just wanted to say I think the Just Flew In looks great on you! I have this bra as well, and I completely adore it.
The cups look like they're fitting you just perfectly. I got a 28D in my first longline (because I had no idea what I was doing) but I bought a 30D in my next one (Piper). I don't notice a huge difference between the 28 and 30 bands but the 28D cups are definitely too small on me and I have to keep tucking myself back into them. Also, the center gore won't stay put so the bra keeps pulling toward my left boob, which is the bigger one. From the sides you can see rolls coming out over the top and sides. However, the 30D fits like a glove. If the center gore is still hurting you, you should maybe try a bigger band and a bigger cup...
I'd never worn a "longline" ever, and I can't believe how comfortable it is. I find myself reaching for longlines for every day wear just because they're so comfy!
I recently learned "gaping" is "normal" as well, haha. I've actually had to un-alter a couple of bras because I thought I wasn't supposed to be gaping. (Instead I gave myself major quadraboobs).

Agreed. The cups look more too small and the band is on the big side. I also have the feeling the wires are too narrow for your shape. I think you need shallower, wider cups.
