Bra fitting help » Bra almost fits but I think wider wires would be better
Elle Macpherson Intimates » Spree Underwire Bra (E75-696) » 36E 36:6
Issue resolved
I need bras with lower or narrower gores as my boobs are deceptively close-together.
I want to try to get bras with straps in the centre, although I never seem to come across those.
I need wide wide wide wires, but very shallow cups, which I don't know if I can even find, but I will keep trying. I will also try some bralettes because I don't need much support, and then I will be guaranteed to not have wire on boobs.
Try Bravissimo half cups.
Suggested to try the next size up, but it doesn't exist in the Spree, but I will keep that in mind for future bras.
Original problem
So I had ordered these bras before I got fitting help for my Freya Marina Padded Half-cup (1273) but after I went to Lilac Lingerie to try on bras, which was a much better experience than the first place I went. In Lilac the 36D of what I thought were the two bras I ordered fit decently well, so I ordered the next two sizes up to see how that would go.
They turned out to be different, I think I got the unlined versions of the bras I had tried in store which were padded.
But anyway, I tried on this one after the 36DD and 36E Elle Macpherson Intimates Cloud Swing Underwire Bra (E76-835)
which were really pretty but just didn't fit at all, unless with heavy swoop and scooping which still didn't fill out the cups. Then I tried this bra in the 36E and it seemed amazing at first. My boobs mostly fill out the cup with a tiny bit of gaping. But I still did have to do a good amount of swoop and scoop which you can kind of tell from the pictures of the armpit it kinda looks jammed in. But when I measured it it was 6.4" across compared to the cloud swing which is 6.0" with a half inch larger depth.
Also the DD in this bra is a much smaller wire, so I actually don't even fill out the cups any more than with the E, less if anything, which makes sense with my wide root.
What I had decided on from my last fit check was to aim for super wide wires with a similar depth to my Freya (10.0"), so I have ordered a Masquerade Tiffany (5431) 34G.
So I just wanted to know if this seems to be along the right lines? And what you think of the fit here? Is it worth keeping? I kind of think it is a wider wired version of the old small bras I used to wear, so not perfect but an improvement. And I kind of want to keep it since my Freya although pretty is just too ridiculously huge on me, and the other bra I have with large wires doesn't give any lift at all it is just kind of there.

helpfulDoes this bra feel supportive? I'm not sure...but it looks to me as though "narrower" wires would be better for you, not wider ones....but I can't really see your "roots" in this bra. Overall, to me, the bra looks too low on your body, as though the cups are below your breasts, instead of in the "fold" beneath them. Also, the center gore appears to be too wide for your rib cage. I don't see it sitting on breast tissue or anything, but the overall appearance of this bra looks like it's pulling your breasts "down and out" instead of "up and center." I have wide roots as well, and many bras with wide shallow cups look like they're shoving my breasts apart. The wide straps appear to be folding beneath your underarms as well. I think center-pull straps would be more comfortable on you, and they would also provide some lift...

Sorry I'm late to the party :)
Now. I think your boobs are deceiving and that people see narrow roots where there is none. Also people have a hard time believing boobs not full in the inner quadrants and so we are constantly put in too small cups. The problem however is that whatever one does with this shape one is screwed, because bras simply are not made for this shape.
The full part of my boobs is not fuller than say a 36D/DD but my root is closer to a 30K/34J/36J wire and it's so absurd I know people have a hard time believing it. http://www.bratabase.com/browse/panache/harmony-full-cup-underwire-4035/30K/pictures/ That's an undefined huge breast root. In pic 13/18 it's most obvious.
And here I'm fitted in a 36D Triumph Ladyform. http://www.flickr.com/photos/96373516@N07/sets/72157634597779330/ Narrow root, wires on breast tissue and still that bra doesn't look too narrow on the sides.
I have 4 size ranges. None fits. None ever will. Either I have wires on boobs or problems with internal organs, like coughing. Now I'm way more sensitive than most but my relatives with the same shape refuse to wear anything than Aah bras. Our shape really is a bitch.
Anyhow; the main problem I think is that bras are made for boobs fuller in the inner quadrants. They are not made to be at the sides of our bodies so when we start wearing our bras there we need to size up in cups because the front of the cups is now pulled backwards. And then what traditional bra fitters will say is that we start using part of the cup as a band. As if we had a better option. We don't. Otherwise we'll have wires on breast tissue. We really cannot win whatever we do.
We cannot concentrate what isn't concentrated, so we just have to get our ways around bra fitting as good as we can.
Still I think the best would be Bravissimo halfcups.

Ya in picture 13 it definitely looks like how low my wire is. To me it seems like I need to wear my wire much lower than it looks like I should, as I showed in the imgur pictures above. I don't know if that helps compensate for the shape of the wire on the side or what. Or maybe it is because of the centre gore, which definitely is sitting on breast tissue, the undefined root of my breast is also at the centre, so I thought I had separate boobs but I don't.
I will add Bravissimo halfcups to my list.
Also I'm going to see how bralettes work for me. I became comfortable with having small boobs long ago so if they gave me a tiny bit of lift I would be happy with that. I also don't need (want?) much support.
That being said I have a bunch of bras coming in that I have already ordered, I couldn't help myself (with wider wires). So I probably won't get to try Bravissimo halfcups or bralettes anytime soon.

Oh and also, my boobs definitely seem very malleable/changeable. I was reading that one adventure you had, Branarchist , about the experiment with the tight straps and wide low cups. It seems like it might work for me but I haven't tried it.
Oh and also I have been wearing my 34F Freya Marina Padded Half-cup (1273) , just by leaning foward and putting it on. Then I do a very quick scoop on each side of the cup to get more side tissue in. When I do that it fits pretty well, it fits through the bottom of the cup and gapes in the top. And when I do the light swoop and scoop rather than the full my boobs don't escape the cup through the day. But again this goes with my malleable boobs. Because it seems like whatever I try lately &almost* fits. The smaller cups are filled out but are kind of just piece of fabric sitting on boob. And the larger cups all gape (except this current bra right now, which I quite like for the look it gives in comparison to the nice wide wires). And of course certain shapes (like Freya Untamed Plunge Balcony Bra (1291) will just never fit me. It would probably somehow still gape in a 28A.

SuperSecretL I'm still shocked about the fact that I have now myself managed to get into a cup that I would say is quite narrow (the HP Nina), but then also it took months before I could.
I also had to look up bralettes because I didn't know the name. But yes I'd like something like that myself as well.
Is this bra comfortable nowadays? I think that's the most important question. I kind of like the look :)
-
Branarchist What do you mean it took months to get into the HP Nina? Like you had it lying around and kept trying it on and it finally worked? Or do you mean just months of wearing various different bras?
The Freya is pretty comfortable until it rides up then it starts annoying me. Also I feel self-conscious in it because of the gaping. I am worried people will somehow notice and think I'm trying to wear bras that are too big.
The Spree I find very comfortable, it seems to work pretty well. but it's also very itchy :( And I feel like the shape of the underwire annoys me. Like I sometimes become very aware of the underwires of my new bras and I feel like they are shaped wrong so like if I pull them up they are better around the sides but worse in the bottom and middle, and if I pull them down it feels like it's the wrong shape on the side. But I like the soft-cup and they extremely-light lift it gives, I feel all bouncy all day which is fine by me since it's not painful.
-
SuperSecretL Both. It was both around and I tried thousands of other bras in the meantime.
An yes, I understand how wires can trouble you. I have problems with them as well. But maybe those problems will now slightly disappear, I can hope at least :)
Itchy bras are not nice ;/ And bouncy is ok if it works :)

helpfulOk I am really new to this right size bra stuff. I am still trying to figure out what sizes in what bras fit me. It looks like your front and center is being smashed. That's how I look in 28 f Mark and Spencer. And then come to find out I need a 30 F in M&S. I would either try 38 E or 36 F. I can see that your ribcage in the front the way it is reminds me of mine. Narrower on the sides and it projects more in the front. There's a name for it. I can't remember. I think this bra looks too small for you. Also looks like the band is digging in, in the front. Into your ribs or above your ribs. Like I said I may have an untrained eye but I have tried on more bras in the past month than I can remember. LOL. I hope this helps ! And I also agree with the other suggestion too!

Ya I think you're right about the front and centre, it doesn't feel uncomfortable but I think you're right that it is kinda sitting on boob and squishing it down.
I don't know if this bra exists in 36F though, that sucks :(
-
bra extenders have really helped me in wearing most of my 30 bands when I feel like they are too tight. Sometimes it helps the cups fit better also. :)
-
Ya I realized the other day that I should be using bra extenders. I don't think it will help with this bra though this bra doesn't feel tight on me at all.
-
It really helps me because of the shape of my ribcage. My under bust is 26 tight and 27 loose. But 30 bands fit the best and most of them I have to use an extender.

helpfulI agree that the center gore looks too wide.

It feels a little bit supportive, definitely on the low support end of things.
Ya I am still not really sure about the wires. The visible edge of my breast ends way sooner than the edge of the cup. I have a picture of it here in a different bra: http://imgur.com/naJcSTz
Branarchist suggested that it is because I have a wide root and a narrow boob, she linked http://www.bratabase.com/profile/353/adventures/1778/ and that seems to be what I am.
My boob outline is not that well defined though and my theory is the outline has just kind of conformed to the 38B bras I have worn for so long, like kind of a mould of a breast on top of my actual breast. Which makes more sense to me because the 38Bs feel like they are stabbing the side of my boob even though they look like they fit, and these wider wire bras I have tried on have felt like a dream. Also for the last few weeks I have abandoned my 38Bs and mostly been wearing a 36E Montelle Coquette (9012) which is no support at all (if you look at me in that bra you can see why I say the Elle Macpherson gives me some support, because the Montelle is basically a boob cover). Since then my boobs seem to have changed. The nipples used to point down and out, and now they are more central.
The wire also might be too low. Too me it looks very low when I am wearing it, but pulling it up feels uncomfortable and I tugged my bra down a few times as I wore it today. Also when I swoop and scoop the bra always shifts down somehow. I can see the marks and the wire looks like it's below the very bottom of my breast but then in the centre there is a LOT of space with no breast. I took a picture with the red marks where you can see what I mean, and the bra on shifted up a bit. http://imgur.com/a/pMsre It looks like the wire is in the right place for the very bottom of my boob but then there is a lot of space on the inside and outside of my boobs at the bottom What do you think?
I think you're right about the centre gore. It didn't hurt or anything but if i squeeze my boobs together it looks like there is a narrow space than I thought. When I pulled the bra up a bit the gore didn't hurt but it felt really annoying, I don't know why but it bothered me.
So ya, I don't know. Like my old bras go right around where my visible boob is and http://www.bratabase.com/bra/dhut2/ you can see how it looks. Also this might be relevant too, I found an old picture of me in another 38B before I lost weight, and back then I didn't notice but you can definitely (I think) see boob escaping from the bottom, and it looks like the root would go wide, but I'm still not sure. http://imgur.com/fn9Znv0
