Issue resolved
Didn't fit. Will sell this bra.
Original problem
I am almost certain this isn't how the bra is supposed to fit. There are two things about the fit that I don't think should be happening in the right size:
1) The bra does not tack to my ribcage and instead is pushed away from my body by my breasts. One of the pictures I've uploaded shows the gap between the bra and my chest wall.
2) When I pinch the band tighter to see what it would feel like to alter the band, I get all sorts of armpit tissue rolling over the top of the cup where it meets my armpit.
So I figured I would order a 32G and have it taken in. It finally arrived and I did the band pinch test again to see what it might feel like after taking it in and to my dismay, those pesky armpit rolls are still there! ARGGHH!! It gets worse the higher I wear the bra. The only redeeming item to note is that the cup volume fits me better in the 32G.
I'm really starting to doubt myself and how well I know my own breasts! Where did I go wrong?

helpfulYou need a smaller band and larger cup size. The reason why you get fat or breast tissue overflowing over the band when you pull tight is because the cups are too big. When you pull the band tight, your breast tissue cannot fit all in the cup so it escapes out the side of your bra. The gore does not tack because it is too large and is pushed out by your breasts. I would suggest a 28HH approximately. The 32G fit you better since it had a larger cup volume. You need that larger volume, but on a smaller band so that it fits close and will not push away from your body.
I would also suggest remeasuring for your size. This is a great site for measuring, it uses 6 measurements to give you a size. http://www.sizemapp.com/en/
The worst that happens is they reassure what size you thought you were or they give you a totally different size.
Hope this helps.

I would try to get a 28 or 30 at the most and then move the hook and eyes on the back of the band farther in. Remember to reduce by one cup size for every larger band size. You can hand sew the bands, it just isn't as dependable or strong. See if any of your friends or family have a sewing machine and/or know how to sew. Also, when try a longline strapless, it may hold up better.
Also, the bra blogger thin and curvy is a very similar size to you, you may find some hints there. The following link is her review of a strapless bra: http://www.thinandcurvy.com/2011/05/where-to-find-26-and-24-band-bras-and.html?m=1
And her links to 28 and below band sizes:

helpfulI don't think that bra works for many women. Everyone seems to get the orange in a glass problem. Try a strapless bra that doesn't have hidden wires, like this one.

I own a Deco plunge in almost every colour now and they're my favourite! You'd think I'd have a Deco strapless by now, but I've been a bit deterred by the high gores. I have small bruises and scars from friction pokes that happen when the gore sits between my breasts and pokes the tissue. I also have problems with strong wires putting pressure on and grinding my rib cage whenever I move or reach for something :( Is this something I should be worried about?
That being said, if the alterations don't work on the Wonderbra, I will eventually pick up the Deco strapless and give it a shot. I'm desperate to try anything.

I'm not quite sure what you're talking about, but if your wires dig in, try this alteration (no sewing required).

I do this to all my bras now, and it makes a huge difference. Also, you don't have to get the strapless Deco. That was just an example. The main thing is that the wires are not hidden like on the Wonderbra. If I can't see the outline of the wires on a strapless bra, I know it won't work for me.

helpfulRixie clips are good for making bands tighter. I don't know if that applies to your size or not. I got some but they are only 2 hooks. I haven't tried them yet but I know some women use them to tighten their bra bands that are too loose.

I get 26HH or 28H! Thanks for sharing that link. It's pretty spot on for me :)
I wish strapless bras came in smaller bands. I was thinking of taking in the 32G. I'm hopeless with a sewing machine so I wanted to get a bit of advice here before investing any more money into this thing.
