Issue resolved
We all agree. Band too big, cups too small, cup style wrong.
Original problem
HI,
I am hoping Noob and some other ladies who helped in the past can get in here. This bra is 36B Lily of France. It actually has a wider band than the 38B of the same brand, and is much more comfortable. I get no gaping in the cups and this bra is actually almost the same in length as the 38. Its a padded push up too. Right now I am not looking for the "it does nothing for your breasts" as I am just not hoping to get a band, cup size that works. I think this brand might work for me, and am looking into demi and balconette. I think I can get away with this?

helpfulJust a question: In your first side shot, it looks like the cups are being pushed out towards the top edge of the cup, could you get an angle of the edge of the cup so I can see what's happening there?

Here's a picture of what I mean: http://i3.minus.com/jbx4JK7IV21lJY.png
It looks like the top edge is being pushed out of shape compared to the rest of the bra, if that makes sense.

Hi Jillsas,
I took two more pics and hope they get approved. I think the cup may be slightly too small in this one, but a cup size up would be too big. I am hearing lots of advice on here that I ought to try out demi, balconetter, half cup styles.
-
Okay! The cups look a tad small, but wearable. I've worn Lily of France in the past and have found their bras to be a good deal in that they're better made than most and pretty modestly priced (at least at Century 21). I definitely recommend trying out half cups. I recommend trying out this bra: http://www.figleaves.com/us/product/BTE-953144/B.tempt%27d-Ciao-Bella-Balconette-Bra/?size=36B&colour=Yellows

Hi Jillsas,
I heard this brand runs small in the band, might the 38 be worth a try or would 36C or B be ok?

Imean the b.tempt I heard runs snall

HI Jillsas,
I am sorry if my comments are making it seem I insist this bra fits, when I know it isnt perfect. I dont see it riding up in the back but someone else did, does it look that way to you? I never have to adjust the band during the day. I also think backfat is a sign that the bra cups and or band arent right, but Lindas online says thats backfat doesn't mean a bra doesnt fit? So confusing.
-
The band is angled downward, but if you look at your back shot, it makes a frowny face sort of shape, which means that the straps are pulling up on the band, but the band isn't tight enough to stay in place. As far as riding up, it doesn't look too terrible.
I know Wacoal runs small in the band (not sure about b. temptd). I think you could benefit from trying a 36 band in b. temptd if it runs similarly to regular Wacoal because this band looks a tad big. Unfortunately, I don't know how the cups run. If would suggest 36C though just as a gut feeling.

Yeah yet a 34 won't close. I tried on loads of 36 bras this weekend and no matter how big I went in the cup, they didn't fit and I bulged out of the band everywhere. I bought a 38b balconette that I think is wearable, yet it measures smaller than the 36 . I am going to ask for fit help on it if u are willing to look? This bra will be my last try otherwise I will just give up as no bras fit. It shouldn't be this hard.

Hi Jillsas,
I am sorry to flip out, its just been a long bra journey with seemingly no end in sight.I think this bra does run big, but there are just about no 36 bands that arent way too tight. This one isnt and I have a maidenform on here, in 36B. I did ask for help on that long ago and was told I just had a fashion bra that wasnt supportive. Now that my cup size seems to be changing i am wondering though, if maybe just a cup size up would make that bra work? It does not give me a u shape across the back, and neither does the Body By Victoria bra on there, yet that was deemed too large in band. Are you able to access my profile bras to take a look? I really really appreciate your time!

Just looking at your VS bra, the band looks better on it. It goes straight across the back and is parallel to the floor. The one rides up slightly.
If you can, maybe try out the b. temptd in 36C and 38B if you feel most 36s feel too tight. Your breasts are not large, and while support is likely more comfortable than none at all, you band does not have to lift as much weight, so you can afford to go up in band size.
It okay, finding the right bra can be really stressful, however, there is a lot that goes into a perfect fit of a bra, both in shape and size. I often think that people don't give bras enough credit when they think that bra fitting isn't hard. I encourage you not to give up because you seem nearly there. This is a pretty mild case of a shape mismatch, and I'm not particularly worried about your band riding up because from the sideview, the band is angled parallel to the ground, so it's doing some work.
I still haven't found the perfect bra, and believe me, I've been looking for nearly a year now. But I feel better off already than when I was in 34Cs (in 28HH and 30H now). I hope you feel the same. What is most important is your own comfort. Even if the bra is not visually perfect, if it's good enough that you can forget it's even there, I would consider that a victory.

Hi Jillsas and thank you,
Unfortunatly the red bra isnt made anymore so I cant try different sizes but yeah, i had not noticed the u shape until you pointed it out. I am going to try out the b. tempt as that bra is actually sold in my town, and I don't have to worry about shipping or sending it back. Braologie really knocked me in that VS bra; saying it squished me down, etc. and I do like a wider band so I did give that bra away. I do like the pink Maidenform as it has a wider band. I think maybe a cup size up in that one, or possibly a band size down and a couple cup sizes up would work?
-
I also think the red bra may have been mismarked, as its quite larger than any 36 I have tried, and it even measures bigger than several 38 bands I have had in the past!
-
The maidenform actually doesn't look that bad at all. I think it looks better than any of the other bras I looked at, maybe a tad deep, but really that's it. Does the band feel too loose on the maidenform when you turn it around so that the cups don't interfere with the fit of the bra?
-
Hi
This bra feels ok in the band, not big or small really. Do you mean the cups are deep? I'm a bit unsure about cup size in this one. I am also finding that even Demi and balconette styles seem to give my breasts full coverage, is that acceptable? Will post pics if the balconette tonight. Would that vs bra in another size be worth a shot? Oh and that red bra is still made, but the store had no 34d . I so wanted to try that size.
Thank u
-
Yes I did mean that the cups are deep. There's nothing inherently wrong with full coverage, and often bras in the "normal" size range often turn into full coverage when they are worn in the proper size because American bra companies try to cover up bad fit by making things labeled as "demi" and "half cups" bigger than they actually should be.
For the VS bra, I would go up a cup size so that the gore lays flat on your sternum, I'm not sure how that would make the bra look, but it would definitely be worth trying on.
That's good, 34D and 34C might be a good size to try in that bra.

HI,
I posted pictures of the balconette in my profile. I only asked a select few for help. I think in that balconette I could go down to a 36, but I do fear the bra bulge deal. I wasnt able to try a 36 in store. The cups have a tad of room when I stand up, but there is no gaping or anything when i bend over. I would love your thoughts on how it fits, and yes, there is some backfat but that is an issue that will be hard to fix . I think its better than the red bra.
-
Alright. This one looks better than the other I think. In the future though, could you take you pictures with your arms akimbo (except your back shot)?
The band does look a tad loose, but other than that, is it comfortable? I can't really see wear the wires end either. Are your breasts completely enclosed by the underwire after scooping and swooping?
-
Hi Jillsas,
I took Nesoas advice, and loosened the straps all the way and hooked the band on the tightest setting, pictures of which I am about to post. I am easily able to hook the band on the tightest setting already, and it isnt too tight, which tells me I am indeed a band size smaller in this bra. I did take a shot with my arms akimbo and have my middle finger on where the cup ends, but because my arms were not straight down it seemed to move where the wire ends. When my arms are down the cups do fully encapsulate my breasts. Will post those pics now. I am really hoping this bra works in 36C, if they even sell it.

helpfulHey Radio
It looks like this bra is much more flattering on you than the last one, though I'd say keep a look out for 3 hook bras if you can. Last time I went to Macy's, I saw a lot of Playtex bras that had very wide bands, but I'm not sure about the sizes. They are pretty common though, you could also try on their bras there.I think that halfcup/balconnettes/demis would look a lot better on you than plunges. There is less fabric to fill out at the top and tend to have wider cups. This bra is pretty close to a half cup though, it has a taller gore and more straight across neckline. I also think you could use a cup bigger because you have some tissue on the side near your strap/armpit area that should be inside the cup. If you think the bra feels comfortable, I think its not too bad and completely wearable.

HI,
I agree on the halfcups, etc. I always have some fabric left in a full cup bra. Do you think I could get away with a bigger cup in this one? I dont gape out in this but am afraid a cup size up I might. So far I havent found any three hook bras in anything under a D cup, but they exist in smaller sizes? Yeah this bra isnt perfect but its better than the last. I did try a Hanes 36C which was great in the band, but too big in the cup. Its in my profile but I didnt ask for help because the cup was clearly too big. band felt great. Do balconettes have wider bands?
-
There might be some gaping if you go up a cup, but it would be better for migration and it would contain all your breast tissue. If you bought this at a store, you could always go to try on the next size up and see which you prefer more :)
I don't think balconettes have wider bands, I think it just depends on the style. Strapless bras tend to have wider bands though, just because more support is supposed to come from the band and not the straps. -
Hi Noob,
And maybe down a backsize?

Yes, if you can hook it.

helpfulThe band seems to be riding up on the back. You measure 35" ribcage and seem to have squishy fat around ribcage, so you might want to try 34" bands if they fit you better. You also have 'back fat' which is usually a sign that the cup is too small and therefore the bra is pushing the remaining breast tissue to the sides and all the way to your back since it can't fit into the cups. I'd suggest trying a bra with two cup sizes up and one back size down, maybe a 34DD? http://www.brastop.com has good selection and international shipping. Don't forget to scoop and swoop!

HI,
a 34 wont hook on me . I have backfat without a bra too; likely from years of not wearing the right size bra.Even when i scoop and swoop I dont fill a larger cup totally, but i am starting too. I only just began with the vigorous scoop and swoop, and i am 37 so I am thinking it may take a very long time for my tissue to migrate back? I also agree with you that the cups are too small on this one, but in my bra profile theres a pic of me in a Hanes bra thats way too big in the cup and the backfat is even worse. When I try to move that fat it actually doesnt go anywhere.
-
i agree, down a backsize in this one. The u shape of the band means its too big right?
