Bra fitting help » Cup too big or wrong shape for me?

Issue resolved
I need a deep cup with narrower wires, maybe in a larger size as well.
Original problem
I was very excited about the Rhea, so I was incredibly disappointed with how this fit. It fits great along the top edge and while the gore doesn't quite lay flat, it fits pretty well in the center. The mess occurs with the outer side, where I have a lot empty space. In the main photo, my fingers point to where my root ends and where the wire lays. I use up most or all of the total volume of the cup, but because the shape seems to be too wide and shallow I get ripples along the wire where the shape of the cup and my forward projection fight each other. Is there any chance sizing down in the cup will fix this or will I just end up with a cup that is too small?

helpfulI dunno... to me that looks like the cup is not deep enough for you. It looks too small.
The cup shimmies down because the apex is trying to fit your boob. That wrinkling looks less like extra fabric width than extra fabric length?
If you can't bring the wire up to your crease, I think it's because your boob won't fit in the cup and wants to push the wire back down.
*edited to add:
What happens if you wear an extender? Does the cup wire stretch less and become more narrow?
I think you need narrower wires and deeper cups, so that means a different bra style.Updated on May 20, 2013 Flag this

I agree. I think overall you need more depth and that might help solve other problems.

Do you have any suggestions for what I should try? I'm waiting on an order from Ewa Michalak. From what I've read, a lot of their styles sound like they'd be ideal for my shape.

I might be the wrong person to ask as I think I have the opposite problem as you - meaning I usually need wider wires.
I'd say Ewa will be a good fit. Possibly Freya non-padded? Those are 2 that I know will probably never fit me. lol.
These posts might be a good start to knowing what brands to try:

I second Ewa! You can also try other polish brands like Comexim, avocado and kris line, they all have the shape that could work for you.
I think you could do well in Bravissimo balconettes too. -
Thank you, everyone, for all the recommendations!

helpfulI would actually say that this is too small, like you said below the gore is not tacking because the cup is too small. The bottom is wrinkling because the shape is too shallow so your breast isn't fitting into the bottom, rather it's sitting in the middle pushing the cup down (because of the weight) causing it to wrinkle.

helpfulI don't think it's the best shape for you. It looks perfect in the center, but like you need to pull it up farther on the sides of the cups. Personally, I think the Rhea is quite forgiving around the top, and since you're not getting any quadboob, going down a cupsize might help some. I suspect that going down might get rid of some, but not all of the wrinkling. If you want to make it work, I don't think the wrinkling would be noticeable under clothing.

Thank you for your input. It's not as obvious with the lighting in the photo as in person, but the gore was more than a half inch from my chest. I can't get the wire to sit any higher. It's right at the crease for the inner third and I'm concurrently getting some orange in a glass effect, which definitely doesn't help. I don't really want to try to make a $50 bra work for me when it looks this awful, even if it isn't noticeable under clothing. Any suggestions for something with a deeper, narrower cup?

I would stick with what drownedsalad says. I need wider underwires myself, but I have noticed that the two freya's that I've tried are quite narrow.
-
Also, just noticed that your breast perimeter is 13" and the cup perimeter is 11.3".
There is almost no way your boob should fit into that cup, even if you're super squishy.

It's kind of weird how that works. I took the measurement leaning forward like the instructions say, but I have a lot of forward projection and they are very pendulous in that position. Laying on my back, they take on a more desirable shape and I have a well-defined root that is easy to measure and that number comes out closer to 11.5.

(weird. I commented, but came back to add more and it's not here. )
Anyway, unless you're gonna spend a lot of time on your back, I'd try to fit the cup perimeter closer to your boob perimeter standing up.
(LOL)
Or... at least I'd take an average of the various measurements. My advice is to go closer to your perimeter measurement when standing normally. It doesn't have to match exactly, but I think anything more than a 1-inch difference (~2.5 cm) is asking for cup-fitting trouble.

I'm worried about all the other problems with trying even larger cup sizes. Even now I tend to size down in the cup because the positioning of straps works better, the wires tend to be narrower, and I need shortish wires under my arms. Also, the caving at the bottom of the cup I get from the orange in a glass effect is often worse in larger cups, I guess because the smaller cups provide firmer support because they have more wire relative to fabric.

I think this bra would only cause more issues in a larger cup size, but if you try bras with narrower wires, it will probably be necessary. I was looking through bratabase for a narrow wires tag, but the closest I got was for narrow boobs.
http://www.bratabase.com/shape/narrow-boobs%2Bnarrow-root%2Bnarrow-boobs/
For my size, the width's are quite similar to the Rhea, but for some of the bras they were a few cm narrower. Try searching through this list, compare the widths to your current bras to see which would feel more comfortable and then on the bras page, look at the bras that are similar. This is what I'm doing to get my list of bras I want to try.

helpfulWith the Rhea, I tried it in about four different sizes and it was just Wrong. I'm convinced that, while some people love this bra, for others it's just a terrible idea

I don't currently have an extender (I know I should, I have some ordered) but I tried lining the cup up with my breast with the band unfastened. I think either the angle of the cup or shape of the wire is just wrong for me. I can get it to sit right on one breast (still a little wide, but the volume is close to perfect), but the wing points upward and other cup would not line up with my other breast. Sadly, I'm pretty sure this bra is not for me.
