Issue resolved
I need to stop assuming that certain sizes will always fit, and I need to open my mind even more about cup sizing. While my band size may stay the same or within a small range, I need to stop thinking "sister sizing" is always the way to approach how cups fit. A 30DD will likely fit better (at least on some days) than my 30D.
Original problem
I think this bra is so gorgeous. Pictures don't do it justice. It's silky and the colors are quite flattering for me. I haven't really worn it yet, because I've been saving it and its matching bottoms, for a special weekend away. It has been suggested that balconnets are probably a good bra shape for me. So I bought a few balconnets and I assumed they were working because they were recommended.
However, the more I read the commentary of the fitters here in size requests, I now suspect that this doesn't fit quite so well. I think perhaps I'm wearing it too low? With the "push" from the bottom of the cups, I can't really pull it up though.
If not basic balconette, what?
Thank you

helpfulBesides the issues you listed, the cup is too small all over for your larger boob (thus the ever so slight quadboob) and the wire where the gore is appears to be sitting on breast tissue (but that may be decieving).
If you plan on wearing it as a special occasion bra, no harm no foul.
If you do want it as an everyday bra, I'd say size up but I'm not sure if that would solve the short wire problem. There is no "one bra cut" that will always suit you. There are plunges, halfcups, fullcups and balconettes and you will find bras in all of this categories that will suit you
Personally I'd suggest halfcups - masquerade and bravissimo ones - I think you'll get better coverage from the side in those.
Stretch lace is always a good option - I was going to suggest jasmine but I see you already tried it I think you might enjoy the Andorra plunge bra and miss mandalay amelie.
And from unpadded balconettes, I'd go with Cleo lucy
Oh and why not give freya deco a shot?Updated on August 7, 2013 Flag this

helpfulDo these cups seem too small? To me they do. I agree with the other suggestion 30DDwould fit you better(I'm guessing) You might be retaining water and a 30E might even work.

Today I could just SCREAM. I hadn't put on this bra since I bought it (and took the photo) so today I decided to try it.
I don't know what the hell happened, but it feels and LOOKS way too small. It's as though it shrunk. I'm bulging out the sides and cups and I have major bodice-ripper quadro-boobs. I feel like my bat-wings and arm flab have been magnified. Ick.
I have not gained a pound...I have no idea what's going on! Maybe hormones...
Frustrated.

I think our boobies change everyday. Sometimes bras are too small/big and then other times they fit. It's definitely water retention/loss esp. since we live in AZ. We sweat our butts off from the heat and here in Tucson from the monsoons and having a swamp cooler and then we crave salt or our bodies have to compensate for the loss of water weight from sweating our butts off. I have had my epiphany. LOL

Jasminepetra - Has it been SUPER humid by you as well? The last couple of days it's felt more like California or even Florida! I'm sharing your epiphany. I realized temperature had something to do bands but I never connected it with cups, (duh). At this rate I'm going to need 2 different bra wardrobes, lol.
It seems crazy that I never noticed sizing issues before. I think I just ignored it, figuring it was hopeless. Also, I wore mostly Barely There or Hanes "custom flex" type bras (and lots and lots and lots of push-ups). Since the bands were always way too big in the first place, experiencing my "regular" bras feeling "too small" never happened.

Yeah we got a lot of rain a couple of day/nights but after it was raining around us and felt really humid and I did the sizemap and measurements were actually different and after 1 or 2 days they went up again to normal. I think I was literally sweating my boobs off! LOL I am pretty sure boobies contain water so they we don't dry up too much in our hot AZ heat. But spend all day and night in an air-conditioned place and your urine output changes and water retention changes.

helpfulYour breast perimeter seems similar to mine, as does your breast shape, my underbust is an inch smaller. Same issue: half cups seem to work better. And then not all sizes are equal. And then there's hormonal and fluid changes due to weather, a bag of chips, whatever.
Ok, so here come my two cents based on what works for me:
- I usually wear a 28F, or 30E's with altered bands. You should try 30E's
- Panache is on average, one of the better brands for this breast shape. Cleo is also panache.
- You look kind of skinny: look for a band that 'hugs' you; the difference between 'riding up' and 'painfully tight' can be small! My Miss Mandalay bra and my Cleo Zia band wise is nothing, apart from Miss Mandalay having slightly stiffer fabric. Cleo is bra heaven, Mandalay leaves marks.
- Band size doesn't differ so much with fluid changes under normal (aka not needing medical attention) conditions. I wear the same band size always (Summer, winter, Dutch summer, South-African summer, Spanish summer, snow, freezing cold, and even when I had enough bloat to fool people into thinking I was pregnant- seriously, it worked!).
-The right cup size does, and many women DO have two bra wardrobes. There are certain times when certain bras won't fit... and sometimes you do find a magical bra that works always. (My La Senza 32DD with the band that's the same size as my 28 bands, for example, a half-cup). I'm looking out for a few smaller-cup bras.... for smaller-breast days.Updated on August 8, 2013 Flag this

- I just had a look at your profile to see what bras you like. :-) Thank you so very much for your help and for the insight you've given me!I read your Bra Bio and yet ANOTHER thing about bra fit I'd never thought about occurred to me...(self) perception...
I've always considered myself "flat chested" and unnaturally small. When I see pictures of myself in my own bras, often I don't recognize myself, because my body in photos doesn't look like what I think I see in reality. I know I have small breasts, of course, but I don't think of myself as "flat" or "not normal" anymore.
However - I still don't "get" that maybe I need bigger cups (sometimes), even though those times should be obvious to me. Something in my mind couldn't process that connection.
I love Panache and Cleo as well! They are, so far, my favorites overall based on "brand name". I also have a Braologie (and another on its way to me) that is rather wonderful. The Braologie is a "lot" of bra, but it's SO darn flattering!
My Soma 32 bras are the same size as my 30 bands, and the one 28 that fits me best is a Curvy Kate that's the same length as my 30 bands. I've been analyzing how my bras have been fitting and I think I'm the same as you: my band size stays relatively stable, but the cup size is a regular surprise. I swear sometimes it seems to change daily.
Today I'm wearing my 30D Porcelain Viva (which I had considered my most perfect fit so far) and I feel like I have suction cups on my boobs instead of a bra. The band is fine, but I have "orange-in-a-glass" with the cups.
I will be trying a 30E in a balconnet as soon as I get my hands on one!

Yeah I have a bunch different sizes. 30FF all the way down to 34D(which needs to be altered in the band) I change my bra at least 2 times a day. I'm waiting for some 30DD's and 30D's and some 28E's. I feel like my bra size changes all the time. PMS and all those other factors that involve living in AZ. When you get done you could open a store and sell bras! J/K lol. Keep your bras that you think are too small because they might fit at some time. Esp. with all these heat waves.

The other day I started out with a fitting Freya Deco, by the afternoon the gaping cups were visible under my clothes. Lol.
And yes, self-perception can be deceiving! Actually, 'our' breast size is just... normal. It's all about perspective: I'm pretty sure if you put your breasts and my breasts next to each other without the person behind them, they'd be roughly the same size. But, I always thought mine were too big, you thought yours were too small.

What an eye you have! There is definitely quad boob on my larger girl but I can't see it myself in my own photo!
