Issue resolved
I wear bras from other brands now. Elomi wires are just too wide for me.
Original problem
I got this bra from petalmoon in "heavily altered" condition, means: wires bent, gore taken in, worn a lot.
Still I liked to get a chance to try my first Elomi bra without risking to much money.
this bra - it is comfortable to wear!
There are tons of commonly known fit issues that should normally make this bra a nightmare to wear.
But I like to wear it, I love the fabric and it even feels supportive somehowIssues:
Gore does float (but I'm also not sure if it's mainly because that gore has been bend outwards a lot?(see pictures where I'm holding the gore flat, I think there's enough room in the cups and it's not an issue caused by too small cups?)
Wires are super duper wide. I actually need rather wide wires, but these wires end at my back. (Picture 1, showing where I need my wires to end)
Light gaping on top towards the straps. (picture 2)
Wires to short on the side - higher wings / u-shaped wires / tall wires give me more support.
The band is a bit big, but even that doesn't bother me too much
So... is this bra supposed to fit like that?
And why is it comfy despite a ton of fit issues?
I even have my eyes on other Elomi bras now...

helpfulI know why you like this bra. It looks very supportive and comfortable. I think that's the most important 2 things in a bra. And I think it looks very nice on you so....... Next time you buy a Elomi maybe this is the size you are supposed to have maybe 1 size down in the cups or this same size. Since if you get a brand new one the band won't be stretched out and there will be no gore issues. But maybe a cup down would have more narrow wires? I don't know. I like this bra on you! It's definitely a HIT

When it comes to bra fitting I've been starting to thinking like this; the rules are a basic guide to help us find a fitting bra. But when we learn more we learn the rules are not a guarantee for comfort.
We've already established the idea that for support avoiding quadboob at any cost isn't a good way to get a supportive bra.
So what if for comfort avoiding gaping, wrinkling or extra space somewhere at any cost is as unproductive? Because we need to have the ability to move in our clothes. And for being able to move we need room.
I think it is like this; some of us are more comfortable with a little extra room in our clothes and bras. Some likes the compression feeling and are actually comfortable in their shape wear.
I've forgot telling you this but I've had the thoughts for some weeks now that maybe your fear of bras being too big is because you really hate feeling constricted? That feeling of boobs wanting to "burst out" of the bra.
When you first got this bra I thought you needed to alter it heavily to make it work even the slightest, but then you suddenly started to wear it and thinking it was more comfortable than Tango.
Vienna belt, same thing? Maybe you simply hate constriction?
Plus size bras and Tango are made to carry a heavy bust rather than being totally fashionable.
ohmyohmy Out of curiousity; do you also not have a flat gore in that bra? I'm not as big boobed as any of the two of you are so for me a flat gore is really optional. But it would be even more interesting to see if it can be that way even with a really big bust :)
-
I don't get a perfectly flat gore either. The size of both wires sitting next to each other is larger than whatever "space" there is between my boobs. I'm so close-set that I have this little bridge of skin between my breasts on top, so only gores that are short enough to sit under it or wires sitting on top of each other truly tack for me.
-
ohmyohmy That's so interesting! I've thought for almost a year now that flat gores aren't necessary. I will need to start a bra adventure about it.
I have splayed boobs. They look separated, especially on bottom. But they sadly are not. When I lean over there are no spaces in between and that bridge you describe - I definitely have it on top. But when I look down on my boobs I also have a bridge between them on the bottom. I think that bridge is the reason for my falling out of bras underneath.

This looks great on you as an everyday bra! I'm just really sad now that my frame is way too tiny to wear plus sized bras. Even if I altered the band, they'd be all kinds of wrong. Which is a shame, as the cup sling strap support thing is a work of genius.
Like the Marcie, the cup is actually deeper than your maximum boob perimeter, but unlike the Marcie, this seems to have great support and the extra space is just from overly wide wires.
I don't think that us big boobed ladies can get a textbook fit in bras, because the bras haven't been designed for our bodies! So if this is comfortable, it looks like it's holding you up, I'd say it's a winner. I gap in the top of all of my bras, and it doesn't really bother me that much, because I prefer to fit to my projection than my boob height.
If other Elomi stuff is similar to this, I think it will work on you as an everyday bra, and you can go for something like a Jasmine or even a Marcie as an occasions bra if you want a rounder shape.
ohmyohmy - I have that little bridge too! Tacking gores is pretty much an impossibility, although I have found sometimes with my bras which are too wide for my frame the gore tacks because it pushes my breasts outwards away from my frame making space there.
-
Ereshiy I think you may be onto something. I've thought for a long time the reason gores tack at all is because they distort their way into that place by wires wrapping around to the side turning wires into the twisted S shape MilkAndHoney talks about.
-
Branarchist - I'll have to take some pictures and share an adventure! I never used to have gores tack, but now that I'm stuck in these super wide bras, it does happen on occasion.
-
Ereshiy Please do! It might shed some light about the gore fit issues that I'd be really interested in understanding! :)
-
I have tried on bras where the gore tacks perfect and the cups are way too big.
-
I am very surprised that everyone is like: go a head and wear this bra! :O
I expected to be called out on all fit issues and told how wrong it is for me. The bra does certainly not fit in terms of textbook bra fitting rules. But I so love to wear it.
Panache Arizas wires always have me pain because they were to narrow.Branarchist You are right. I hate how constricted my too small Arizas made me feel. They even made me feel constricted when they "fitted" since there was never enough space on the top center of the bra for my boobs. This kept causing boobs sneak under the gore. I hate too tight clothes too.
ohmyohmy do you wear other Elomi bras? Did you get flat gore in other bras, but only not on Elomi Caitlyn.
I just realized yesterday, that my gores were almost never completely flat (if one thinks of flat : gore biting in your flesh). Some weeks ago I made a gore comparison with pictures:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/96373516@N07/sets/72157633836315046/ Almost none of those gores laid flat on me!
However I would call 34J lilac Arizas gore flat. But it wasn't 100%-ly. There was never enough space between my boobs to have a gore that lay completely flat.
The only bra were I still have a tacking gore is my 30K Panache Tango. I don't like that bra. When I put it on recently, I became immeadiate pain from the gore rubbing into my skin because it was too high! I usually like high gores, but since I realized that none of my gores ever tacked, I understand why I hate the Tango. I always wore my Tangos about 1/2 cup sizes too big to get a decent shape by tightening straps very much. -
I hate narrow wires!
-
^^ Me too. I just realized many of my fit issues were because of too narrow wires! :O
-
Damn, I was sure I had answered that, but apparently not. The Caytlin is my only Elomi so far. I've tried the Rita (in a sister size, 1 band up, 1 cup down, as it was available in the shop), but it was a complete failure.
-
ohmyohmy Oh :O What was so terrible on the Rita? That bra is on my Wishlist! Was it much weaker than Caitlyn? I might stick to Caitlyn if other models are not better than that.
-
Mmm to be honest, I tried it back in March, so I have a blurry memory of it, but I know the fit of the cups was off enough that I didn't want to order my real size (which might fit better). I think I quadboobed a bit and the bra widened me. I also fidgeted for a long time with the hook but didn't manage to put it in a racerback position. That being said, I'm very hard to fit and I know that some have had success with the Rita. I also find it prettier than the Caitlyn and was looking forward to a lower center gore. Oh well.

helpfulDespite the fit issues you mention, I don't think it looks too bad on you. I can see obviously the wires are too wide but if they are comfortable and the bra s still supportive- which it does appear to be, then I am not sure its too bad a problem. Although the gore isn't tacking, there doesn't appear to be quadding much when you press the gore in. And the shape it gives looks pretty good. I wonder if part of the reason the gore is not tacking is to do with Elomi wires.. I don't own the Caitlyn, but I believe Elomi wires are a bit bendy like Freya- definitely not hard like Panache, and therefore perhaps don't tack as hard especially in larger cup sizes(??). The only Elomi I own is the Asia, and it is too small in cup for me and a little loosish in band, and you know I love it for an everyday comfort bra! Despite its fit issues.

Caitlyns wires bend like jelly. So it's long ago that I wore a Freya bra, but they might be rather similar.
Maybe the bras are that comfy just because the wires are that weak? I know weird thought, since I have been one of those ranting about weak wires for ages. Panache wires are strong but just torture me. Why not wear some Elomi bras. -
You could be right about the weaker wires and comfort..some Panache wires (or any harder ones) can be torturous at times. I guess if the weaker Elomi (or others) are comfortable and still supportive despite some issues, then why not wear them. :) (I don't wear freya either, been put off by narrow wires and shape- though have briefly owned a couple that are with new owners now ;) )

helpfulWhat an elegant, gorgeous bra! It looks very soft, too.
I have nothing to add except that if this feels comfy it seems like a good fit.

helpfulI think if the bra is comfortable, gives you a shape you like...you should keep wearing it.
You do say the bra has been altered, specifically in the gore and wires...so quite frankly, all bets are off as to why it fits and how it fits...and I wouldn't expect your next unaltered Elomi to fit the same way. A little bit of alteration can make a huge difference, I've found.
It does look great on you. Beautiful color!

helpfulThis bra looks so much better on you than it did on me!!
I bent the wires so very much because it was floating anyway on me (too small cups) and I was trying to make it work better for me.And yes, this bra has been one of the best fitting and most comfortable bras I owned until I discovered my true size.
Elomi has ridiculously wide cups, I know. But you almost make it workUpdated on August 4, 2013 Flag this

My experience with Elomi has been that brand new ones have bendy wires that are only wide when the band is fastened and that they give a very east-west look. They pretty much push my boobs so far sideways they are in my way if I put my arm up, at least until some of yhe tissue creeps under the gore and back into their naturally close position.
-
petalmoon Thanks for selling it to me! I never expected it to become one of my fave everyday bras! It's super comfortable and supportive!
I'm still thinking back and forth if 1 cup size smaller could work better when it comes to wire width. But then - I might end up with quadboob. Difficult to say, since the gore on this bra is nowhere lying flat! But I found out, I cannot stand completely flat gores anymore :O I prefer floating gores as long as the bra is still supportive.mycuprunnethover I agree about the east - west shape... but... I rather have east-west in Elomi bras that are comfy than in a terrible Tango that only tortures me with it's wires and gore...
-
Comfort is the most important feature!!
Which is also why I kept wearing the Caitlyn as long as I did because it doesn't fit me at all but was still very comfy. Needed something to wear while my tight budget slowly grew enough to buy more bras that fitted better!
-
I even think about getting another Caitlyn! :O I'm so fed up with bras that fit terribly and torture me. Even the 32K Jasmine, that I had high hopes for, is a dissapointment.
-
oh alisa please message me if you wish to sell the 32K Jasmine! I'm adoring that bra and want to own them alll ;)
...I need to own more Jasmines that I know fit me before I'm gonna spend money on bras that might not ;) -
petalmoon Stupidly I have another Jasmine coming in :O I ordered this before the other and because everybody was telling me: if nothing else works, Jasmine has to! Of course it's not a terrible fit! I just feel the need to get out of the bra after 4-5 hours of wear. So it can only be an occasion bra for me.
I ordered the Pink Champagne, when I get it, I might decide which one I keep and maybe sell the other one. If I decide to sell, I think of you :) -
Oh yes please! I'm still working on getting budget available to get myself the pink champagne colorway. Buying from you would be great :) whichever colorway you decide to sell.
-
petalmoon which colors do you already own? I heard they changed things about the fit on newer models. So I would be curious if the old ones were more supportiv than the new ones.
-
I got a midnight print in last week, and the cut is certainly different from the navy&red floral ones I own.
I thought I was imagining things at first, but the midnight one is cut smaller for sure. I'd say half to one full cup size smaller. Support is the same, they're all super supportive.
Of course, because of the stretch lace, it still doesn't quadboob ;)
I currently own 6 Jasmines as my daily rotating bras: 3 navy floral, 2 red floral, and 1 midnight print. Almost enough to last a full week without washing!

helpfulI think it looks great on you. Elomi bras do tend to have very wide wires, which is why I cannot wear them. It does look supportive and gives a great shape. The gore issue might be because the wires are bent, but it might also be because your boobs are too heavy for the wires (I have this problem with some bras.)
If you like this bra, but want something a tad narrower, maybe try some Fantasie side support styles? They are cut in a similar fashion, but more narrow. Elomi is a plus-size brand so it tends to run wide.
Some people are ok with wearing too-wide underwires if they get the shape and support they like. I do think you need to size down in the band. If I were you, I would hit a shop and try on a bunch of Elomi bras.

Mine fits in a similar way. I find it very comfy and supportive and somehow the band still works after wearing it a whole year, even though it started on the loose side. Also, that colour looks really nice on you.
