Issue resolved
wrong band and possibly cup. Exchanging for new size.
Original problem
HI ladies,
I decided that this bra is definetly too big in the band, and too small in the cup for my tastes. I have my old pics up here and a new one of what the bra back looks like in the tightest setting, which would be like wearing a 34. I also think the cups are too small, so maybe going to 34DD like it was suggested to me is a good bet. Thoughts welcome.

helpfulThe band is waaaaaaay too big for you, which is why you have rolls on your back, maybe try a 34 D? I don't think this bra suits your shape very well, I think the cups are too narrow.

Roles can also be caused by too small cups
-
yes, there are bras with wide enough wires for you!! They're just a bit hard to find (see my other post).
-
Would maybe 36D work better than 34DD?

helpfulNone of the issues describing are visible from the pictures :/
But taking your word for it - have you tried hooking the bra on the tightes set of hooks?
Because manufacturers do count on some tension from the band, so when the band is tight you get wire distortion which makes wires wider.
See if it helps. Generally I think you could be wearing 34 band comfortably if you don't mind the tightness.
I suggest trying Tutti rouge Liliana. It is the shallowest bra construction with the widest wires I ever set my eyes on. Other than that, I think Panache andorra might be a good bet as well as bravissimo halfcups.Updated on June 8, 2013 Flag this

HI Vee,
Thank you so much. On the tightest set of hooks the bra becomes very uncomfortable for me. I wanted to tell you though that after putting this bra on today, I dont notice the tightness I was telling you about from the cups. The underwire DOES go around my whole breast. I think , like you said, I could possibly get away with a 34 in this. For now I think I need to band size down gradually, because I have been in 38 bands for so long. Synch thinks this bra doesnt work for my shape, but I rather like the look of it. Now that I look at the p ictures too, I also dont see the issues I mentioned. Do you think this bra is ok for me?

If you are 100% sure that the wires are behind the spot where your root ends, I really don't see anything wrong with it, at least not from the pictures you put up.
I do recommend you remeasure yourself because from the numbers listed here the bra should be a whole cupsize too large and from the pics it doesn't seem to be too large at all :) -
Hi vee,
I am really not able to measure myself I guess, because I come up with the same numbers every time. Thats why I think its easier to post pictures, because then someone can see if the bra fits me. Bra ladies say I am 34.5 or 34 underbust, which is normally what I get. I can't really tell where my root ends, but. the underwire goes to just under my armpit, which on the 36B bras I listed on here wasnt the case, and I had some armpit fat. If it were you, would you change the band or cup size at all? Perhaps 34D?

Vee,
I am getting suggestions for 34DD on this. What do you think, or maybe should just try 36D?
RADIO

Vee,
I messaged you and you are right about the band. I can already hook this on the third setting and am posting a pic of the back on that setting. It took care of much of the backfat, so I think a smaller band size and two cups up might be ok, as the cup is still snug.

My dear, your band size shouldn't be larger then 34, in some bras it is likely to be even smaller!
Don't worry about numbers or letters, they are relative, the goal here is to find something that fits.
So a 34 band for sure, but If you say the cups are snug, then up a cupsize too -34DD

helpfulI'd say you need a 34DD in this bra, because the cups look too small for me, too (this can make the band feel small btw.).
If that doesn't work, there are still lots of options: http://www.bratabase.com/profile/65y/adventures/1530/ (Look at the bras with "even wider wires" in the second half of this list.)Updated on June 8, 2013 Flag this

HI Libby,
Thank you so much. I too, feel this band is just a bit too big in the back. Stretched and unstretched, it runs a little bigger than most 36 bras I have tried. It stretches to 38 inches which is already bigger than I am around. I also think DD in this one, as I know a 34D would essentially cause me the same cup issues.
The underwire in this bra is much, much wider than the underwires in the other bras I listed for fit requests on here, and much more flexible too. I think in the right size this bra will work. A smaller band with bigger cups will help with backfat too, right? I think this bra looks better as for how the cup is cut, compared to the other bras I have tried on. DD would be better than D ?

Hi Libby,
I sent you a message as you are right, the 34 would work better for me. I am posting a pic of me with this bra on the tightest setting as that would be what a 34 would fit like, and the back looks alot better.Plus I also think these cups are too small, and will be trying the 34 DD!!!

helpful34DD or 34D might be better, as that band seems way better on the tightest set of hooks. The tighter band will help the bra last longer. I disagree with Vee's suggestion of the Panache Andorra, those might work in larger sizes, but all of that bra don't size down to smaller sizes very well. I don't know how the Liliana sizes down, because I haven't seen in smaller sizes yet. I would definitely go for the Bravissimo half cups though. 36D might be good as the bands run tight.
Have you adjusted the straps so that you can only stretch them 2 inches off your body?

Hi Jillsas,
I have heard mixed reviews of both Panache Andorra and Liliana, but also the same goes for Curvy kate thrill me. I do know you are right about the Tease me, another site I found tonight said that bra is terrible for wide-set shallow boobs. My Thrill me in 34D is on the way. Bravissimo is my next task to tackle.
On this bra, no, I did not adjust the straps like that,I put them on the loosest length because to be honest, I thought the band would ride up, and the cups already felt snug. Also, part of me didnt want to post pics of the band riding up because I did not want to hear that I was a 34 (so used to being a 38A)! A 34 D or DD just seemed unfathomable to me, if that makes sense? I think 36 will most likely be my best band size, but I will tell you this. That 36B Lily of France bra that everyone told me was too big in the band? It measures out the same as this bra, which is also too big in the band, and yes,I could hook it on the tightest setting as well. I told my boyfriend today that I might be a D or even DD, and he was shocked. He was like "you dont even have cleavage." Does it make sense that I am having a hard time wrapping my head around this? I dont even get how can I be a D lol?

D isn't as large as you think it is. I consider it to be quite small actually. I think of myself as a bit above average, and I wear 28HH and 30H.
-
HI Jillsas,
I am hearing you on that. My sister is supposedly a 38D but she looks like an F cup in my mind. Not to mention her center gores don't like flat on her sternum, and she was fitted at a specialty shop in town. I went there too and they were even worse than VS. The gal there said to me, "you measure out to even be as small as a 32 band, but 34 is even too small on you. If you were any heavier you would be a 38." Nice huh?
Have you ever tried the bra size calculator on A Sophisticated Pair website? I heard its the most accurate out there and even they have me at 36C, 38C, or 34D , but the last one they say only if I want the band super tight. In this bra even a 36 is too big, so 38 is laughable. Those calcs dont take style into account . I saw another lady asking about this same bra on another website and she said "I know it looks like the cups cut into me but they dont." Her cup looked like it fit just like mine, so maybe thats the design on the bra? I guess if the DD is too big I could try the 34D with an extender

I really don't like calculators, the Sophisticate Pair one is better than many, but as far as calculators go, this is my absolute favorite: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/3068649/bracalc_v4.html
As for that fitter, eurgh. It's like she didn't even know what the band is for.
-
Thank you Jillsas,
That calculator is the first one I have seen that asks for so many measurements, and, it put me at 34DD. I have two freebie calculators on my phone that even have illustrations and videos for how to measure. Those two calculators put me at 36D and 34DD respectively. I tried the Natori one for the heck of it and it had me at 38DD. LOL on that one! Maidenforms has me at 40B. No wonder ladies have so much trouble.
I posted a fitting adventure today because someone told me about a a bra that worked great on her wider set breasts, and they had that bra in my town so i tried it In the 36D, the band felt ok, but I could hook it on the tightest setting. Felt too tight but not hurting me. So, since they did not have a 34DD or E, I tried a 34D. The bra really hurt, but I dont know if that was due to the wrong style (wires werent wide enoug for me), wrong cup size, etc. The wrong style can make a bra uncomfortable cant it?
What are the rules as far as the bra hooks go? I always thought that if you are able to hook a bra on the tightest setting, you should go down a band size. On this bra the tightest setting, which would be like a 34, is definetly more flattering.
Thank you

RADIO10465 yes if you can fit a new bra on its smallest setting from day 1 you need to size down. I think a good suggestion to you would be to wear any 34 bands you buy in with an extender for the first couple of weeks as this will help the band to stretch out while you get used to it.
-
Hi Vintageswifty,
I will try that if the 34 feels too tight. I think I am more a 36 but at least in this bra, I am told thats too big. Will wait and see!

Hi RADIO10465,
I know it's frustrating for you, and I'm sure you feel like we're just all telling you the same things again and again, but I do think a lot of your problems would be sorted if you wore a 34 band in a lot of brands. When you've been wearing a 36/38 for years, wearing a smaller band feels incredibly small - I know, as 4 years ago i went from a very old 36 (so it probably fitted more like a 38) into a 32- for weeks I felt as if my ribs were being cut in 2, but all of a sudden it started to feel better, as the band stretched out slightly and my tissue (which thanks to M&S fittings had been smooshed round my back for years) started to migrate back to where it should be- in my boobs. A lot of the fit issues you tend to have on the bands of your bras are cause by the fact that they are just to big- that's why you get the bulge underneath the band and why the cups feel wrong - you can't fit cups properly until you get the band spot on.
I'm sorry if this sounds like a rant - I don't mean it to. :)
-
HI thats ok ,
I do need the help. i think my problem is mostly wide-set shallow breasts, not so much bandsize. Although yes there have been some too big bands on me, the big problem I have is that I cannot buy bras at stores that fit me due to how my body shape is. Apparently this bra which I had to mail order also doesnt work. I do have a 34 DD in this one on the way though .I do measure comfortably at 35 underbust but I am nervous about ordering a 34 because they flat out dont fit. Wouldnt this bra in 36D help that back issues at all? I am trying the 34 but since I already measure about 35 I dont see how it will work.

Well considering you can already fit this band on its smallest setting in a C cup- going up to a D will basically make this band even bigger- therefore the back bulges will be even worse than they were in the C. I think you need to remember that a lot of 34 bands stretch wider than 34 inches. Also I know you've tried on 34 bands in the past that haven't fitted you, but if the cup size was too small on those bras then it will have made the band feel tiny. Just to give you and example, if I was to try a 32F on in a bra that I usually fit into a 30H in, the band would feel really small, and if I didn't know any different, I'd think I needed to size up to a 34.

Thank u . I believe this bra can work for me, I think the wires are wide enough. Mostly I am worried about the 34 band. I feel it will be tool small
-
RADIO10465 I totally understand I used to where a 36/38 band (maybe 2-3 months ago) and now where a 32/34 and am acutely aware of when a band is too big, you will get used to it quickly :)
-
HI Synch,
I have visited that link before. Did you send that to me to address my hook closure issue? There is a lot of good information there, I must say. I am not sure really of my band size at times. It seems that I can get anywhere from 34-36. If I put the silver part of the tape measure directly under a breast and pull the tape around I get 35 or 36, but if I have the tape measure with the silver part in the center where most women have cleavage, then its 34 or 35. All brands do run differently I know, and you were one who thought this bra could work in the 34 band, right? Its still on its way to me.

Yeah and the other ladies said this bra had wide wires . I'm out of options. No bra suits my shape, apparently no one makes wide enough underwires for me.
