Bra fitting help » New! full on bottom, can't fill top of cups? What size is best?
Cleo » Lucy Balconnet Bra (5851) » 30DD 30:5
Issue resolved
The particular style of bra doesn't match the shape of my breasts - it's too projected. Returned it and I'm still looking for the best fit!
Original problem
I've only recently discovered the existence of the Bra Matrix, and after using a few reputable bra sizing engines, they came up with 28E/30DD. I ordered the Lucy off Amazon (because Prime!).
This bra is very far from fitting me, I think. From the pictures (especially 1 and 2), there's lots of wrinkling and gaping in the front, sides, and top of the cup.
I've determined that I have a wide and shallow root, and FoB. The wires in the Lucy work well for me. I own a few Victoria's Secret bras in 32C that I can fill almost completely, for comparison.

helpfulhttp://www.bratabase.com/browse/cleo/lucy-balconnet-bra-5851/ says that the band runs tight, so 30 bands might often be ok for you. The cup is too big; you need to go down at least one size.
I agree with your wide/shallow/FoB assessment. I'd also say you're quite close-set, so will probably be happier with narrower gores. Have you considered plunge bras? They tend to have quite short, narrow gores, and I think they'd work well with your shape.
In your shoes, I'd probably start by looking at 30Ds, and the occasional 30C that runs a little large in the cup (given that you say you only almost fill your 32Cs). What do you think of the Cleo Jude? The Gossard Superboost Satin Plunge looks like a maybe, as do some B.tempt'd By Wacoal bras or a Natori Sheer bra. Panache looks borderline.
The Freya Deco looks like it might be a bit too projected, I think (and it's moulded, so not very adaptable), as do Pour Moi bras and Wonderbras.
I found the above by searching bratabase for bras with a gore height of at most 1.5 inches in 30D. I hope you find it helpful and something relevant is on Prime - take a look at the details for the bras on Bratabase and see if they or similar ones appeal, and if your assessments match. Unfortunately, I can't share personal experience, as my breast shape is basically exactly the opposite of yours, aside from also being close-set.
Note that some bands run loose/tight, some cups run big/small, and the shape of the cup influences how it fits on you, so you may need to size up or down in particular bras or find yourself straddling, for instance, 30C vs 30D quite often.

helpfulI disagree that this cup is too big. I think this is the perfect volume for you, just the wrong shape entirely. See how the top of the cup lays flat on your chest? But the apex is wrinkly? This bra is too projected for you. You are indeed shallow, with tall roots, and should get along wonderfully with Freya Half cups in 28E. The bands are stretchier than Cleo. Look for Freya Patsy based padded half cups.
Look here: http://www.bratabase.com/browse/freya/patsy-padded-half-cup-bra-1223/28E/ at the "these bras have the same cut" and go for them. If the 28E is too big, then consider sizing down. But I wouldn't size down until you try a Freya half cup.
Also look for Cleo Juna in 28E. It's similarly shaped in that size.

helpfullcl0706 The tops of the cups don't lay flat on her chest. They look like they might in the first picture, but the side views and her description show otherwise. She mentions the bra being too big on the fronts, sides AND top, which suggests a volume issue. This is further supported by her mentioning only almost filling a 32C.
It's easier to diagnose fit issues in unlined bras than in padded or moulded ones, too. The Freya bra that you mentioned in 28E is an inch deeper with the same cup width; it's more projected, not shallower!

We agree that she doesn't need a narrower bra. I think there's both a shape and a volume issue here, but we'll know one way or another once she's tried on a few more shapes and sizes of bras. I think your analysis of what would happen in a smaller cup of this bra is right.

lcl0706 You were totally right when you suggested I check my horizontal perimeter. I don't know how I got to be an inch and a half off, maybe I'm more educated now about my breast shape. Does this new measurement change anything in relation to cup size?
larabloom I suppose I will need to shop around a little more, try different brands and styles to find the right one for my shape. I didn't think that my breasts were close together, but now that you pointed it out, you're right.

bicoastal_gal Lots of bras are for people with close-together breasts; you just need to avoid very wide gores. I find tall gores to be ok if they're quite narrow, but this depends on the person and the bra.

I would still suggest trying Freya half cups in both 28DD & E. A 28DD is not out of the realm of possibility. Don't think anyone can say for certain until you give it a shot!

Thanks to both of you! I've ordered the Freya bras off Prime and I'm so excited - I didn't know that bra shopping could give me this feeling! I'll resolve the issue when I check the fit of the Freya. Thanks again!

Good luck! I'm looking forward to seeing how they are. With any luck, they'll be enough better that they'll either fit, or it'll be easier to see where it's just a little off. :)

Hi! The Freyas came in, along with another slew of problems. Can't catch a break haha. Should I make a new post for the Freya?
-
Yes you should :) Hopefully we can get it straightened out!

Yep, go for it. :)
Patsy half cups are shallower all over than the Lucy is, including at the wire. Cup depths are not really an indication of projection. I don't put much weight into the measurements here on bras anyways, everybody measures a little differently. She doesn't need to go any narrower than this bra, or it will be too narrow. The top edge of the cups does indeed lay flat on her chest, the wrinkles are at the apex and seams. It's definitely a shape mismatch. Going down a size in this exact bra would cause the top edge of the cups to cut into her roots, and likely still have wrinkling at the apex. She needs a different shape, which the Patsy is. Possibly a 28DD, but I seriously doubt it. Her horizontal perimeter is 8.5", this bra is 7". Going down a size would make this bra even more unworkable. Ideally, your cup depth is roughly what your horizontal perimeter is. Maybe OP can double check her perimeter measurement, but I still stand by what I said. It's not a size issue, it's a shape issue.
