Bra fitting help » One cup size larger or two?

Issue resolved
It looks like most people think I should size up two cups, so I will probably start there. Thanks for the help!
Original problem
This bra has already been returned, because it is clearly too small. I bought it as my first bra on this journey (before I believed I could be larger than 28C) and took it back a few weeks ago. I'd like to reorder it, but I'm not sure if I am better off going up one cup size or two.
The band is just fine (only felt tight because of the cups), but I quad all over the place because the cups are super shallow (it's a push-up).
I will consider ordering this in both 28D and 28DD at once if the opinions are particularly split, but I would prefer to just order one bra at a time if I can (due to finances and situation). I'd like to start with the one that most people think would work better.
So, I'd like your personal opinion on this fit. Would you say this looks to be one cup size too small, or two?

helpfulIt would help to enter your vertical breast perimeter and lying down perimeter IMO. I really am not confident telling you how this will work in a D versus DD because it's not a widely known and measured bra so if we are also lacking some of your own body measurements, it's really anyone's guess!

helpfulI'd go up to 28dd. It's definitely a quadboobeffect as you already mentioned. Die you measure The cup depth of your best fitting bra and compared it to The comdepth of The one you Are not Sure to order in d or dd?

1zora216 Thank for the input. :) Unfortunately, my 28C is the only measurement for this bra on Bratabase, so I can't compare the depth of the cups in a larger size. :(

helpfulI would go for the 28DD. It looks like this bra runs crazy shallow. I am basing this off of the width and depth of the cup, not just the depth. This is one way the manufacturer gives a cleavage-y, pushup look.
If you get the 28DD I think it would work unless the manufacturer decided to go a whole lot wider with the cups, essentially making them still too shallow.

runs_with_scissors Thanks! Yeah, it's a super shallow bra, which is the only reason it gives so much push-up. Here's hoping the shape remains consistent in larger sizes!

helpfulI'd say 28dd based on how little of your boob is being covered and supported.

helpfulOoh I'll be the voice of dissent, I think 28D. Just a guess though! Cute bra! Didn't realize they covered this size range.

Also re the band, you are probably correct that it just feels tight because of the cups. But my experience is that most women under about a G cup prefer a band that stretches to their loose UB measurement, and that the slimmest women (ie you) prefer the loosest bands. So be open to trying a 30 is all i'm saying.

I was wondering when someone would say one size up and not two! I actually tend to agree, since it is a push-up style bra anyway (and because I have an excessive aversion to gapping cups, leftover from my 15+ years of ill-fitting gappy bras). But then again, I do not know much about how much larger one cup size really is, to be honest. Thanks for the input!

melifish I forgot to mention that I actually did try the bra backward and upside-down to test the band size, and it felt pretty good, so I'm not worried about that. So far I have been generally finding 28 bands to be sufficient, but I usually have to tighten them to the middle or tightest hooks to keep them from shifting. Unless I can manage to put on some weight, I likely won't have much luck with 30 bands unless they run a bit tight. I did just try a 30C Natori Feathers today, and the band was actually all right, but I think it runs pretty small.
I think normally you would be right about really slim people like me generally preferring looser bands. I think the reason I prefer tighter is actually due to my breast shape -- I am very shallow on top but pretty projected on the bottom, so most bras that have enough immediate projection leave too much gapping at the top. A tighter band helps to close the gap and keep the wires in place. One day I'll be rich and will have nothing but tailor-made bras of personal perfection! A girl can dream. Hah.

wendybien I was hesitant to add the vertical breast perimeter measurement when I first joined because I have a hard time determining where my upper breast tissue ends, and while I am still not entirely sure, I just measured and it is about 6". It has been too long for me to edit my measurements on here, but I will redo them all as soon as I can. As far as the lying down breast perimeter, I will measure that as soon as I am able (I can't at the moment unfortunately).
