Issue resolved
The DD cup was a better fit in cup and tail of spence
Original problem
This bra fits great and is comfortable, except for how it digs into that flappy stuff at the top of my armpit (what is that called?!). The wires are okay, the wings seem okay but my breasts sit up high close to my armpits--any suggestion to fix this one or a bra model that would fit better?

helpfulIt's called the tail of spence, it's a medical term and it is a body part: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tail_of_Spence
Some people have a more prominent tail of spence than others.
I do a see a bit of wrinkling in the mesh section of the bra, above the cups but below the straps. There are a ton of bras out there for people who need shorter cups, have a look at Natori's other offerings in 30DDD: http://www.bratabase.com/browse/natori/size-range/30DDD/
b.tempt'd and Betsey Johnson might also have something that fits you with shorter cups in 30DDD.

helpfulBecause you mentioned in your review that you are nursing and because you don't have much body fat to help protect the breast tissue that the bra is cutting into, I would be cautious about wearing this specific bra--compression from wires or fabric edges can cause mastitis, soreness, and all sorts of other nasties. Try a search by measurements with a similar band, similar gore height/width, similar cup width and depth, but a much shorter wire length. This isn't an exact science but wire length is often a relatively decent indicator of cup height. I would add that when I was nursing, Anita's flex wire bras were SUPER comfortable and a fairly forgiving fit. I had some trouble with their spacer bra because I'm fuller and closer set than you, but I think you might really like it.

Thank you! I have had some plugged ducts lately as he is slowing down milk consumption. Thanks also for the tips about looking for shorter cups by wire length. I have been wearing the wrong bra size for years, plus like everybody my breasts fluctuated a lot with pregnancy and nursing. Are all Anita bras flex-wire?

No, only the nursing ones (and I think some of the maternity ones but don't take my word for it). Don't forget to check measurements here--they do run loose in the band so you will want the smallest band but for me the comfort was unparalleled, so worth a shot I'd say even if you have to take in or rixie clip the band!

helpfulThis is my lifelong problem! I have fairly narrow shoulders and I find my straps falling off my shoulders or digging in under the armpits all the time.
The hopeful fix is that if you have been wearing the wrong sized bra for a while, it might be migrated breast tissue which will resettle itself after wearing the right size bra for a while. The more likely issue is either you need more immediate projection or that the straps are set too far apart for your frame.
If you find that your bras crease above the underwire, you could be experiencing the orange-in-the-glass issue and if you find a bra that provides enough room on the bottom, your breast will spead out into it and not bunch up at the top. For bras with more projection, look for padded bras with two vertical seams like @parfait charlotte, or try unpadded bras that mould to your shape a bit more.
If this is not the case, then you probably have narrow shoulders. This is a very common issue for women with small underbusts and larger cup sizes. You can either a) get used to it and never wear sleeveless again, b) only ever wear full cup bras with narrower set straps, c) try @Comexim- a polish brand that with move the straps inward for you for free when you order from them direct, d) try to alter them yourself, or e) -my strategy- die on this hill and buy obsure brands and try on millions of bras until you find something that works! Good Luck!

helpfulI have found this problem most common under a few circumstances: when trying on bras using 'sister sizing' within cup sizes that are truly larger than true 'sister sizing' (I experiment with brands since cup/wire sizes do vary between brands) whenever choosing as a 'last resort' the 'least worst' option out of a selection of larger band size by beyond 3 sizes of 'sister sized' bras and also with loss of weight/loss of at least a half cup size because of the need to cinch up the straps (no stores local to me carry 30FF to 30G bras)
As long as you take the time to try on for and select 'best or better fit' you can decide whether or not a bra that fits as shown is acceptable!Updated on October 18, 2016 Flag this
Thank you! I had never heard of Tail of Spence. Very grateful for your suggestions.
