Issue resolved
Will go up in cup size.
Original problem
I used the measurements in Btb to select this size; so is this a style or a size issue?
First off: this band is suuuuuper loose. I definitely need a 28. More importantly, though, is what the heck is going on in the cups?
I feel like I need a little more room in the bottom, but it's way better than the shallow cups I usually wear. I have quadding in cup where the lace meets the material AND over the top of the lace. But weirdest of all is the wrinkling/space in the lace between the quadding in-cup and the lace edge cutting in up top. That's the part that's confusing me.
I obviously need to go down a band size, but I feel like the cups may fit if it wasn't shark week. However, I don't think that would help much.
It doesn't feel narrow enough, but it's not bad. The straps are a hair too far set for my taste.

helpfulIt's 1-2 cup sizes too small, that's why there is so much quad boob.
The horizontal wrinkles are quite common in the Marcie in the smaller cup sizes (in especially on people with high roots, upper fulness and/or shallow boobs). It's not a sign that the cup is too big - it just has slightly more projection at the apex than these shapes can fill.
The bra is still way too small for you and I don't think cycle fluctuations would make it fit. Also, consider that going down a band size and up one cup size (or more) will make the strap placement issue even worse, because the cups will become wider and move even closer to your armpits. You may need a bra with closer-set straps.
I'm still wondering about that band measurement. I recently measured a beige Marcie in 32 and it only stretches to 32" (which still surprised me, since older Marcie colorways were known to run very tight, but after all it's a reasonable measurement for a 32 band bra).
So - when measuring a bra, don't stretch it as wide as you can. Lay it flat on the table, place a measuring tape on top, and pull gently until you can feel a noticable resistance in the fabric. Don't stretch any further, as it will break the elastics and the band won't be able to 'bounce' back to its original state once it's been overstretched.Updated on December 16, 2015 Flag this

helpfulI'm surprised the band is so big - 34" stretched is giant for a 30 band. Is this a secondhand bra? I would not recommend you going down to a 28, especially in Cleo unlined bras. With a comfortable UB of 29.5, you should have no problems with 30 bands. This band is either stretched out or mis-tagged. A 30 band should stretch to around 30."
This is at least one cup size too small. Double check the measurements of the bra - there's no way a 30D is 8" deep. If your perimeter measurements are accurate, and they seem like they should be, this bra is not deeper than your breast perimeter - it's clearly too small. I think Marcie would be a good shape for you, in the correct volume. I would re-try it in a 30DD and 30E.

I don't stretch the band until the wires distort. It can damage the elastic. To get Cleo wires to distort is impressive, and I wouldn't push the band that far. I'm surprised it feels loose on you, have you double checked your UB measurements? Your perimeter measurements? Does the band ride up your back? Bands that fit don't have to be so tight they literally will break if they're any tighter. Just tight enough to not ride up, and provide adequate support.
The lace bubble is kind of common in Cleo unlined bras, it's called in-cup quadding. That diagonal seam is pretty tight and can cut in on soft tissue. But this bra is still too small. Going up a cup size should alleviate the cutting in you're getting.

I do need to update my measurements. I just double checked my UB, and it's an inch smaller, which I'm pretty sure is muscle loss, darn it. Perimeter is holding steady, though.
So size down in the band, up in the cup, for a 28E?

Yeah that would be a cup size larger!

helpfulI get the quadding at the seam very badly with Marcie, so i havent bought a second one despite how comfy it is. and i've stopped recommending it, too.
But this looks way too small. I wonder if you only measured your smaller breast? (and of course shark week)

I've never tried the Marcie but lots of other Cleo unlined bras. I'm shocked too about the band. If you have Amazon prime I would return it and grab a 30 in the cup up (can get rid of the in cup quading) and then the band down, two cups up.

My marcie's band is loose.

Nope, new from Amazon. I ordered a black Cleo Lucy at the same time, and that one was so new it looked like it had been flattened with a steamroller. It did the same thing.
To be fair, I stretch them as far as they can go. I noticed wire width began increasing (ie, distorting) at about 30".
And I thought the same thing, so did remeasure, both over knee and inside cup, which is super annoying in unlined bras, haha. I noticed other users have had individual measurements similar to mine, which is what made me think it was the cut, instead of the size. Or both.
Might it be the size causing the in lace bubble?
