Issue resolved
I tried this bra on again today and decided to try wearing it on a tighter hook to see if that helped at all with the gaping. It did reduce it some and now it only gapes a bit mostly near the gore and only a tiny bit at the top of the lace. The streched measurement of this bra didn't indicate that it ran TTS for a 70 band since it meaured a bit closer to 30 inches before wire distortion, I will remeasure and see if I was wrong about when I started to see distortion. I might try a cup volume down in the future, but with this revelation I will probably hang onto this one for awhile.
Original problem
The top of the bra gapes a bit and the cups might be a bit on the tall side (at least based on photos of this bra on others where it seems a bit lower coverage). The bra fits quite well otherwise so I don't know if a 70E would solve the problem or would be too small.

helpfulYou know, I am going to differ with the other advice posted above... The bra's apex is miles above your own and although the wrinkling of the fabric is not too obvious or unsightly thanks to the thicker embellishment at the cup border which keeps the upper cup mesh fairly smooth, I think it looks a good cup too big for you. If you are willing to risk it I'd advise you to try the 70E.

FWIW, the apex of my SM Kusidelko is above my own apex as well and I most definitely could not size down one cup in it.

Yes this bra has a high diagonal seam but if you look at most people across a great range of sizes the seam is like 1/2 inch or maybe 3/4 inch above the nipple at most... on most people it goes across the top edge of the areola, as it does on you lcl0706 and I'd say you have a fantastic fit in yours.
In contrast amandafire has the seam sitting at least an inch above the upper edge of the areola on her larger side, and what looks to be about 2" from the nipple on her smaller side. Now I've been pregnant twice and my nipples can travel practically across the room so I know that is not a hard and fast representation of where the apex of the boob is on everyone, but even if we ignore the nipple factor altogether and consider purely where the geometric apex of the boob is, I think it remains true. The upper section of the bra in this size could disappear and she basically would not lose any support. The fabric tension is nil, it is not containing anything, just kinda sitting there a small distance from the body. I do agree there is a risk that the 70E could be too narrow or something but I still say that the cup on the 70F is way too tall for her, so it's not a stupid idea if she wants to try sizing down. -
I agree with wendybien , when I first tried SMs I had gaping up top and I thought it'd be too small if I went down a cup size, but then I tried a cup size down and it fit perfectly. it's definitely worth trying for you.

wild_muses looking at your pics of your SM in both sizes was quite helpful, it looks like the larger size fit you similarly to how this fits me. wendybien I think you are right about the thick trim helping it to lay flatter/smoother.

helpfulI think this is a fine fit. I really don't see problematic amounts of gaping. and I think a 70E would be not only too small but also narrower and bring your breasts more to the center which you don't seem to want. As far as your review of it goes, I don't think you're going to find a well fitting bra that ticks all of your boxes as far as uplift, projection, and roundness on the sides. Bras that leave boob on the sides are minimizing because they're too wide and likely too shallow for you. Bras that have good uplift, enough projection, and the proper width wires bring your breasts in from the sides because that's not usually where breast tissue is supposed to hang out. SM is probably your best bet for what you're looking for, and this is probably your best fit in it. Of course you're welcome to try a 70E if you want lol. I just often wonder if you're out looking for something that doesn't exist, at least not in a well-fitting bra.

Thanks for the help, I figured I might be expecting a bit too much from an unlined bra and I really do like the shape of the SM, much better than anything else I've tried. I would prefer if it didn't gape and was a bit lower cut, but I can live with this.

I had a S Porcelanka in a 65FF and it only had minimal gaping near the gore, I did decide that a cup down in that one would be best, had the straps been more adjustable the gaping may have been able to be minimized, but I couldn't even get the straps tight enough in that one. I decided to give the 70F a try just because I found it for a good price and I wanted to see if the SM would even be a shape I would end up liking, and it would at least give me an idea of what size to try if it didn't work and I liked the shape.

that makes sense!

I will probably hang onto this one for now, but if I find a 70E for a decent price, I might try it. If the main thing that changes from a 70F to 70E is the upper cup depth and height, it could work.
