Bra fitting help » Do I need to go up a cup size?
Katherine Hamilton Intimates » Sophia Bra » 30G 30:9
Issue resolved
I tried different sizes, but I think this bra might not work for my tissue. Alas.
Original problem
Quadding. It's not a lot. But. Do I need to go up a cup?
My incredibly deep sadness because I suspect that I do, and this is a discounted sample bra from Katherine Hamilton Intimates, which isn't quite "open" yet. (They're launching properly in May.)
It's incredibly comfortable, though, especially compared to most other bras I own.

helpfulI see vertical "pull" or tension lines on the side of the cup in alignment with the strapline, which often indicates a strap that has been tightened beyond what is necessary for support. Can you loosen the strap on the quadding side and see what happens?

helpfulHi, What a beautiful looking bra. I just love the lace detailing on the cups, very delicate and feminin. It really looks to be fitting on you very well. There is some small quadding but it is not to noticable. It does look really good on you and gives you a lovely natural shape. I am not sure that going up a cup size would help as the volume of the cup could be too much. Seeing it is comfy it would be hard not to wear it. For me, if it looks good on you and it is as comfy as you say the i would wear it. Hope this helps

You know, I really wanted to, and then I lay down in it for a little while, and the fit became a much less close match when I say back up. I think I may need to TRY the GG at least. But thank you!

helpfulIt looks a bit small. Also, I would re-check your perimeters and the cups' depth. There's a significant difference between the two. On paper, this bra shouldn't fit nearly as close as it does and your own measurements suggest you need something with a cup depth closer to 11-12".

I've actually gotten very inconsistent results with the depth measurement vis a vi how something fits me -- not just my own measurements but also other people's. I keep getting 'about 10"' for bras that fit completely differently on me, where sometimes that bra will be too small and sometimes it will be too big. I've sort of stopped trusting that measurement.
With this said, this is a very soft cup, and my knee didn't fill it completely. I'm not sure how best to compensate there.
And also I probably need to update my measurements, since I've gone off birth control and between that and regular exercise my size has changed......
So :( Yeah... Kind of "all of the above".
I haven't used BTB for recommendations in forever, and I guess I forgot my measurements were probably off.
Sorry, I will update the measurements of me (tomorrow) and see if that helps.

My depth measurements are off too. They are closer to my vertical perimeter, since my breasts are so short, than my horizontal. That's why I lowballed my estimate for you, lower than the 13" horizontal perimeter would suggest. My best fitting bras right now are around 8.5-9" in depth, with an 8.5 vertical perimeter and a 10" horizontal.

I think you might actually get a better shape in a larger cup. It looks from the side like its pulling down a little to me and cutting into the breast tissue at the bottom. It's a pretty bra! I'll be interested in following this brand. The depth and width measurements are very close to what I look for. Out of curiosity Is the 30G American sizing?

lcl0706 Thank you :) I'll re-measure and let you know! And maybe also try measuring the cup from the outside with my actual tissue in it, since it's so thin and lacy. But I've already contacted the company to make a return.
revisa i think so too! And when I shared the quad photo with their salesperson, I was told that they too think a GG will give me better shape.
Which should help answer your other question! KHI is a UK-based company (that does all their manufacturing there, so for once a luxury bra actually feels like it's a worthy investment!), so they do use UK sizing. The label I got had only one size on it, but since it's a sample bra it didn't have a sewn-in tag.

rainbrasspetals, that is good to know. Looking at the measurements I'd guess 30F/30FF in UK sizing so to me it would run small for the letter. It's a beautiful bra. Shame it doesn't fit better but hopefully they'll be able to send an exchange and it will fit perfectly :)
-
revisa i think it might be deeper than I am giving it credit for. I believe my usual UK size at this point WOULD be 32FF/G, which translates to a 30G/GG. But since they run 26D-36HH, there would still be room for you even if they do run a little small in the cup :)
They say they get compared to Cleo a lot, though, and FTR my 32Gs in Cleo are too big for me in the cup, partly due to shape not being perfect and partly due to me losing some bulk now that I'm off birth control....
But the 30G is too small for me, for sure, even though I can smooth myself pretty well into the cup. (Yeah, I was probably cheating in these photos... :( I just love this bra so much.)

Looks like the width and depth are almost identical to the Cleo Marcie in 30F except that this bra is a bit narrower (yay!) They'll have to be an eBay brand unfortunately for me but I really appreciate that they making narrower wires in bigger cups.
-
I think that might move it closer to 30FF...

helpfulNo, a cup up will be too big. I think you need to adjust your cup upwards (pull the whole thing up by the wire) after scooping.
It's also possible it's a little tight and that's distorting the cup fit; the wires look a little wide.

The photos here are AFTER pulling the cup up and scooping repeatedly and smoothing myself back into the cups. (I unconsciously tried to cheat...) For what it's worth, I sent a photo to the company, and they think the GG will fit me. :|a

Ha! Yeah the bra arrived tightened allllll the way down, so it's more like I didn't loosen the straps sufficiently :) I'm going to try the GG but thank you <3
