Issue resolved
Smaller band size rather than sewing in the band to get a better cup fit.
Original problem
Underwires dig into my breasts just at the bottom and centre part of each breast where my finger is pointing. The sides of my breast under my arm are falling out which leads to discomfort and a lot of adjusting all day scooping amd swooping. The straps cut into my shoulders and skin. I think my breasts are separated and splayed. I did alter and shorten the bra band. What am I doing wrong? What should I be looking for in my next bra? I am FOB, shallow top, pear shaped breast and wide splayed boobs.

helpfulIf the wire is digging in at the bottom, it's probably sitting too low. You need a deeper cup with more room at the wire. This is molded, right? A seamed cup bra would be better for you.

Oh, I see! You probably need a bigger cup then.

Thank you! This is a shallow style so I can try! Thank you!!

You were right!!! I was wrong!! I pushed the bra up into my IMF and it felt much more comfortable! I thought it must be on breast tissue because it hurt so much! I now love the way this bra fits! I do spill out a bit at the sides but I can bear with it. Had to come back to correct this! Thank you for your help with this newbie!!

helpfulI looked at your other fit post... I think you will do better buying 28 and 26 bands from the get-go. I see you are altering bands to fit your very small ribcage--while this can work for the band length, I think it will be quite difficult for you to find a bra originally conceived as a 32D/DD with cups that are appropriately shaped for your anatomy. A woman with 8.6" perimeter breasts on a 25" ribcage has a dramatically fuller, narrower and more projected breast shape than a woman with the same perimeter breasts on a 30-31" ribcage. Most women who find their optimal fit a true 32D/DD have a shallow to average projection so by buying bras in this size range, you are going to tend to find that they cut in at the center or top of the cup, and/or don't contain you on the sides.
You could work around this by buying bras that are very full coverage (full cups, Wacoal and Chantelle offer many in this style) because the cup edge will be high enough to avoid crossing over the fuller part of your breasts, but I'm guessing from your choice of bras on here that this will not be your preference.

Thank you! I am willing to try! It makes sense that I need to start with a lower band as the rest of the cup will be constructed differently! Thank you!!
-
Everything said here is some really good info. The cups are scaled to the band so if the band is overly tight, aka you made it smaller the cups shape will be distorted.
The end of the wire under your arms reaches nearly to your back I believe from the photo. Which would explain why it hurts. The wires normally rest in an area that has very little muscles, as you get further into the area of your back there is more for the wire to dig into rather then laying flat.

Wow! This is very helpful and for some reason it is tough for me to accept that I need to either online shop for my bras or go to a boutique and pay lots of money. But it definitely makes sense that
I will keep running into these problems if I don't lower the band size. Thank you sooo much!! Changing my ways...and my band size. -
Actually I don't know where you are located but unfortunately even the fanciest of fancy small boutiques won't have any options in 28,much less 26. So it's pretty much ALL online! Sorry! One of the downsides of having a very petite torso.

helpfulHave you tried a plunge yet? My breast splay out and every bra was uncomfortable even if it technically fit until I started wearing plunges just with in the last couple weeks.
It would be helpful for us on the outside looking in if you could fill out all your body measurements. Like right now I can't say if it is a shallow cup, or a bad shape or anything because I don't know how big your boobs are.

Just added my measurements. Newbie here. If you get a chance, please check out my pink plunge bra fitting request. I am so confused. Thank you so much!

Also I have been doing a lot of research online as I have been wearing 34A/B for 25 years but my bras were sitting on top of my breast tissue! I was smushing them down and making the tissue migrate under my armpit. I am shallow on top which is why I thought I needed a smaller cup size. All this to say in my research on shallow breasts, it says I need demi and balconnete. But I do feel more comfortable in a push up and plunge type bra. And for separated and splayed, I need a plunge. I am so confused. Thanks for taking the time to help me!!

Yeah I was buying a Demi and Balconnetes, how ever if the top part of the tissue of your breasts is basically touching and then your boobs kinda V out? Try a plunge. It looks like you have wide roots because technically this bra should fit.
Take a look at your laying measurement though. Because normally that is going to be smaller then your standing/leaning.
Honestly it looks like it does fit. The pink one looks like it fits as well. Can you take a photo of what is specifically happening? Of where it is hitting under your arms maybe?
Keep in mind it is much harder to help with a fit on a molded bra rather then with a unlined.
If you can try an unlined there is a lot more info the people around here will be able to pitch in. -
Thank you! I will try to add more pictures. It does seem to fit well in the cups! I will try unlined cups too!

I am wondering if the underwire issue is the shape of it? Too narrow? Should I try bending it? Try a different brand known for wider wires? For the spilling up over the sides issue, I am wondering if I need to get a bra with higher wing height? Or maybe a bigger cup as suggested though I hope I could fill it with enough projection?
-
Actually I should have been clearer, the underwire is digging into my breast tissue, I think. It isn't hitting my ribs. Directionally it is under my boobs but I think it is on my breast tissue as it hurts. If I lift the bra up higher, it will hurt more and definitely be on my breast tissue. Sorry for the confusion.
