Bra fitting help » gore is pressing on my breast tissue

Issue resolved
needed a bigger cup size.
Original problem
I love this bra but I think I may have to admit defeat, the gore is just too high and wide so is sitting on my breast tissue, not too heavily but enough to cause dents and a little pain after only two wears. I thought reverse scooping would solve the problem but it doesn't really as still sits on my boobs a bit ;(
What should I do? I'm worried that if I keep wearing it it might misshapen or damage my boobs somehow ;/

helpfulYou could alter the gore narrower, maybe?

Bastet I have never done any bra alterations, but someone just suggested this to me the other day. I would assume you can just fold over some fabric in the middle and sew a seam, I'm sure there are alteration tutorials but I don't know of any specifically. Narrowing the gore will change the fit of the cups I think? Maybe? But you can pick the seam out if it doesn't help.
-
thanks I will see if I can find some tutorials ..I'm sure it will change the cup but they were slightly big any way, so, if I can narrow the gore, might make it a perfect fit :/
-
Yep, you just sew a seam down the middle, super easy! Since many gores will be too wide for you, it's a good practice to have.
-
so, I took it to a tailor today, cos I'm useless at sewing, but they said they could only narrow the lower part of the gore. They said the wires would get in the way of sewing the top part... :/
I don't know if theres any point altering the lower part since that's not where I have the problem.. ;( -
Oh, I might have found a solution in this blog: https://bybabysrules.com/2012/08/25/bra-alterations-taking-in-the-center-gore-lowering-staving-wires/ where she's sewed through the actual casing of the wire.. I'll show the tailor tomorrow... if he wont do it maybe I can attempt it myself.. although I am scared of ruining the bra :/

helpfulYes, a gore that sits on breast tissue is very painful and not good for breast health let alone skin health (this is how people get stabbed by their underwires!) It looks like you could use a larger cup, possibly even 2 sizes up.

;( Thanks wendybien . I definitely need more space at the centre, but at the top there was slight gaping and don't think they had any bigger cup sizes anyway ;( Also I took the tags off like an airhead.. Maybe if I could swap it on here for the plunge version.. But that's a long shot in my size ;(((
-
Yeah, from some angles I thought you need a bigger size and from other angles I thought, this is just a shape mismatch. and molded cups rarely come bigger than that. so . . . oy.
-
According to Bratabase there is at least a GG available.
Per your measurements I would say you need at least another inch of cup depth.
I do not see any gaping in the photos!
-
Thanks wendybien I will try the GG if they let me change it. Although there is gaping in the G, I tugged the straps up, (theyre not fully adjustable in this size) that's why you cant see the gaping.. and the other end wire on one cup pokes a bit under my arm.

dbmamaz the cups in this bra are extremely wide and full, and they sort of curve at the top, like they're made for very FoT spherical boobs :/ I love this bra though.. if I can just get the gore to fit
-
Looking at your boob perimeter measurements i see your vertical perimeter is equal to the lying horizontal perimeter, which is somewhat unusual--it's often 1/2 inch to a whole inch less. This is probably what makes it difficult for you to get a fit as you have continuing fullness up higher than most bra designers assume. You might benefit from looking up the blog Bras I Hate, she used the term "full on top" to describe her chest but she basically has the same proportions (although in the small band range where she had fewer options). Looking at the bras that fit her well would probably help give you some ideas.
-
wendybien oh thanks, that's really helpful. I think I have seen her blog before but didn't what shape she had. I'll check it out, I've been wanting to find a boob twin for ages :D

helpfulLooks like you have a a breast shape around what I've got, centerfullness, bottom fullness, and some splay, splay meaning when your breast are naked they kinda v out from the middle rather then handing centered on your body.
Because of my shape I've found my best fit in the Elomi plunges, which you can fine on ebay, amazon, and nostrums to name a few.
As for the sizing fit.
If you look at your laying breast perimeter that is the natural compression of your breasts, if you look at the cup depth on the bra you are trying on, it is 1.5 inches smaller then your natural compression, you need a good size or two bigger. Plus you might find a better fit in a unlined bra rather then a padded because of the fact that padded bras are less likely to conform to your natural shape. A good fitting unlined bra will still shape your breasts but it will work with that is already there rather then trying to reinvent the wheel.
To test the band fit, if you put the bra on upside down and backwards and you can see how just the band fits, often times when the cups are too small this will also make the band feel to small because the breast tissue is using up any slack in the band. Though I like looking at the measurements this band seems about right.
the nice thing about buying from amazon is you can do returns for free to try sizes. I'd suggest a 36GG

helpfulYour boobs look very close together, I would go for a really low gore/plunge bra in the future. I think even overlapping gore would sit on your tissue. you probably could go up a cup or two as well.
MAYBE you could try lowering it - i did it once. If you push the underwires to make as much room as possible in the gore, you can trim the channels and then sew across them to reseal. I'm not sure that would give you enough room though.Updated on May 28, 2016 Flag this

@Shsyiobs Thanks, I think I did need to go up a cup size - I just got a Freya Deco, moulded plunge, in 36GG and it fits perfectly... wish I tried that size sooner, all the sales assistants were telling me to go down a back if up a cup and that just wasn't working for me.
I would also like to lower the wire but it already digs into my armpits ;( so not sure if that would work... its such a lovely bra otherwise... I might see if I can get it professionally altered in to a plunge style -
Ah yea, benefit of smaller backs is shorter wires, but then you have to use an extender and it can get weird. Your might want to try comexim or ewa michalak plunges, their gores are non existent (it's amazing xD)

bodangls thanks, I've never altered any bras before, how do you alter the gore exactly?
