Original problem
There is a gore gap of about 2 inches with this bra. The band stretches a lot more than I expected it would, so I am assuming that's part of my problem. As I was taking the pictures I kept wanting to push the cups up higher in the front.
The lace at the top of the cup also doesn't sit flat. It gaps a lot more when I move my arms in certain ways like you can see in some of the pictures. Other than that the cup doesn't feel too big or like I'm swimming in it. If I push the gore flat against my chest though the lace sits flush against my breast tissue.
My boob also looks like it's sitting weird in the cup in one of the pictures; I'm not sure what that means or if it's just the combination of the angle and how I'm holding my arm that caused it, but I thought I would include it just in case it helps.
Should I try going down a band size? And would I stay in a FF cup because of the lace gaping or would that change too?

helpfulThis seems to be more of a shape incompatibility than a size incompatibility. Most 36 band bras don't stretch out to 40"...typically I see them stretch out to 36ish", even the ones whose bands run large might stretch out to up to 38". A 36 band bra where the band runs true to size would be better. The gapping at the top edges of the cups suggest that you would do better in a style that caters to FOB shapes. The floating gore is caused by a too-wide gore; you could also try a shorter gore. A lot of 36FF bras on bratabase have a gore width of 0.3" to 0.6" and a height that is under 3".
***EDIT***
I just noticed that this bra is also a bit shallow for you at the bottom parts of the cups, hence the wrinkling. My new suggestion would be to find a 36FF bra that is projected, short cupped, FOB shaped, with a very narrow gore, possibly lower gore too.Updated on August 24, 2016 Flag this

helpfulThis looks too closed/shallow at the inner top edge of the cup, too wide and shallow overall, straps too wide set... basically made for someone with totally different proportions. Yes you might prefer 34 bands in some brands, that's something you will need to try in order to see how it works; but this bra is a real shape mismatch for you. I'd scrap this design and try a totally different one. Sorry! It's a pretty color though...

Thanks for the answer! Is there a particular measurement(s) that would indicate these things so I can keep an eye out in the future? I'm not sure how to tell what bras will end up being too shallow like this (I can only get bras online unfortunately, so my research options are limited).

It's a little bit tricky at first but once you get to know which cup depth, width and height are good for you, the too-shallow cup shapes will be identifiable due to the fact that your usual cup depth is only available in sizes where the cups are too tall and wide for you. So let's say you discover with trial and error that your ideal cup is 12" deep and 6" wide. You look up a bra on Bratabase and see that the sizes where 12" depth is offered also have a cup width of 7". This means it's a bra that is too shallow in the cups for you. On the other hand if you see a Polish bra where their 12" deep cups are 5.2" wide, that could be too projected and narrow.

Thank you, that does make sense :)

Thanks for the suggestions! Is there an easy way to search for bras that fit those categories? Anything I should be looking for measurement-wise to find projected, short cupped, FOB shaped bras?
