Bra fitting help » Cup and band way too small
Cleo » Marcie Balconnet Bra (6831) » 38E 38:6
Issue resolved
Thank you all! I exchanged for a larger cup size
Original problem
I need help! This is a 38E. I am used to US sizes but since gaining weight I have yet to find a bra that fits!
The cup is obviously too small, and the band too tight. Is the band so tight because the cups are too small? What size should I consider trying next? I can't go to a store for a proper fitting because both times I've gone to VS and JCpenny they've sized me as a 40 DD which does not fit! Thanks in advance ladies!

helpfulTry the bra on upside down and backwards. That should give you a sense of how the band size is for you regardless of the cups. Cleo unlined bras have tight bands, curvy Kate less so. I'd suggest a 38ff and have an extender handy. Once you know how that fits you can compare measurements of that bra to others you want to try to decide what size to order.

helpfulShould I try a 38F or 36FF? I also ordered a curvy Kate 38F so I could compare the different brand and sizing. Any help?

helpfulI would suggest going with a 38FF if you breast if firmer, softer 38F. When I go for bras I look at the depth of the bra/cup vs my horizontal breast perimeter minus 1.5" or an avg of my lying and horizontal b.perimeter. I find that my softer tissue with a 14.5" v.breast perimeter fits best in a 12.5"-13" cup depth. Lately my bust has grown, so it's leaning closer to the 13". I minus a cup for unpadded(38F/FF), for padded I keep the same even if it is very little. If the 38 is just too tight then 40F=38FF or 40E=38F.

helpful@Neverhadabrathatfits I'm still new at this myself, so please take my comments with a grain of salt. However, I have heard that if the bra can still be hooked, its not too tight! Lol, so I agree with dvgirl812, but my suggestion might be to maybe try a 40F and see how that fits. All bras fit differently (despite what the label says). I'm finding out that there is NO such thing as a "true size". American bras (which I have stuffed myself into and suffered most of my life), has perpetuated this theory of a "true size". At the end of the day, its REALLY all about meeting a certain criteria of must haves (i.e.: band must be tight, all tissue must be in the cup, gore must tack, etc.). Outside of that, fabric, materials, etc, plays a huge role in what you need. In UK sizing, I'm a 30K, BUT Curvy Kate has me in a HH because for me, the stretchiness in the fabric is a lot. Whereas, someone who chose the same bra might feel it is spot on to their baseline size! Hope this was helpful to you...but play around with FIT and see what works and is still in the realm of your baseline size (bratabase). Good Luck! 🌷

helpfulI'd go for the Marcie in 38FF. It's likely the band feels tight because the cups are undersized.
For other brands: Cleo bands are snug so 38 is probably good for you, and CK is also often snug in the band; but in other, looser brands 36 may be a good choice. Ultimately though, the proof will be in the pudding... 36 could be too small as -1, -2 band sizing is best suited for people who have a well-padded torso and you don't have a whole lot of fluff protecting your ribs, so you may not need nor be able to tolerate something tight.

As an 38 band is already tight, I would go for 38F or 38FF - a 36 would be even tighter.
