Bra fitting help » Cup size too small!
Curvy Kate » Dreamcatcher Balcony Bra (CK2301) » 36E 36:6
Issue resolved
Returned bra for store credit. I did not like the overall fit of this bra
Original problem
Curvy Kate Dreamcatcher 36E.
First try in CK, this is obviously way to small cup size! Surprisingly, the band fits not as snug as the 38 Cleo I just tried on. I think at least 2 cup sizes larger would fit? Would you suggest a 36FF or 36G?

helpfulHi!
In my opinion there are too many issues with this bra. Yes the cup is too small, but I do not believe a bigger cup will solve the problems. The wires seem to goo too far back on your sides, and going up in cup sizes will accentuate that.
I think you need a different style that is deeper in the cup and has narrower wires.Curvy Kate bras have changes in the last seasons. Their newer bras have narrower gores and wires and the band are as tight as Panache and Cleo's. This bad fit is not representative of the brand.
Have you tried Panache Jasmine or Envie? The wires are average width (narrower than CK Dreamcatcher) and the cups are quite projected. There is stretch lace on top, wich might accomodate well the top of your breast.

I'm a little... confused by that flat 5" measurement, because
http://www.bratabase.com/browse/curvy-kate/dreamcatcher-balcony-bra-ck2301/32FF/
the 32FF, which should be a similar cup (but which has existing measurements) is wider. :|a (The 30E or 32E is also a flat 5" across, I'm just surprised that the 36E isn't wider.)
I definitely think though that this is a scaling issue. Jasmine in a smaller band size has a smaller cup width. Reminder to us little bands: bra proportions are (sometimes sadly) not static!

helpfulThis bra, like many CKs, is cut fairly shallow at the cup edge near the gore so given that you have a fairly typical augmented shape (vertical perimeter similar to lying horizontal perimeter, and tons of center fullness) the only way for you to get an adequate, though probably high-coverage fit is to size up to a 36G. If you want a lower-coverage look than that, I don't recommend this particular bra.

Thanks! My fairly common augmented shape is what my problem is. The augmentation was 16years ago and before 2 children. I need major lifting and support!

You can definitely find supportive bras! Your challenge will be to find styles that allow enough space for the upper/inner quadrant in particular. What styles of bras do you want to find?

I would like a bra that minimizes but doesn't leave them pointy, with the dreaded torpedo look to wear to work under a scrub top.
Another bra that is just an everyday bra that I can throw on when I get out of the shower, nothing pretty or fancy-just enough support to keep the girls up
Another bra that perks them up and gives a beautiful round shape to wear under semi-fitted or lower cut tops.
I'd also like a great sports bra! The closest one I've found to fitting is by Moving Comfort, but it gives a terrible uniboob effect and bulges at the arm areas on the front (too small in sure) -
It's only when I have a bra on that they get/look full on top. Without a bra on they look like normal post-baby saggy boobs 🙁

I don't think there is much risk of a torpedo look in the correct size, unless the bra itself is molded into a torpedo shape. I would try a larger cup Marcie for lower cut tops.
When you say an everyday bra does that mean you'd be receptive to a full cup style? I find Fantasie's Jacqueline (usually findable at Nordstrom's, as is the Selina which is just the Jacqueline in different fabrics) to fit quite generously, and it is minimizing without compressing you as a seamless cup would. It is also very uplifting in the right size. -
Yes, full cup is what I meant! Thanks so much for the suggestions. In a bit of frustration I ordered several more bras from Amazon last night, and after reading the CK blog about their models showing up for a shoot in what they thought was their bra size, they put them in their actual correct size. 2 of them in particular looked close to my size and were in 38 and 40 inch bands. (Super informative blog post btw!) So I ordered, on a whim, a 34H in Princess bra and for Cleo Marcie a 36G and 38F. One has to fit! There is not a store nearby that sells these brands to try on.

If you like the look/fit of the Marcie but would like more comfortable materials, try Sculptresse Kitty (8045) in the same size or a cup size up. The Kitty has the same shape but is way way more comfortable in my opinion. The band might feel tight at first but it stretches out. It's on Amazon for around $50 with free returns right now in some of your hypothetical sizes.

helpfulIf you still want to try Curvy Kate, current ones with a lot of room for center fullness are probably Curvy Kate Ellace Balcony Bra (CK4401) and Curvy Kate Florence Balcony Bra (CK8001). Try a 36 band on the Florence, but the Ellace is firm, so you probably want a 38 band. Both are fairly round and have room for center fullness. They probably won't be full coverage, however. Depending on how firm your center tissue is, you might find a plunge to be more comfortable as well, as it allows for you to have room and space in the middle where you need a lot of it.

If you compare the measurements of these bras, the Dreamcatcher is actually much narrower than the Jasmine or Envy. In the same size, which is too small, the Panache bras are wider by an inch on each side!
