Bra fitting help » Cups/wires too wide? Band too tight?
Freya » Patsy Padded Half Cup Bra (1223) » 30G 30:9
Issue resolved
Returned this bra. Still looking for abtf.
Original problem
I'm in month three of trying to find abtf with no success yet. I've mistakingly worn 34d since breast feeding 3 babies.
I measure 30FF but usually go with sister size 32F because 30s are usually uncomfortably tight. I'm FOB with very soft tissue and close set. I have always fallen out of plunge styles in the middle. I've decided after posting for help that I'm not sure about my roots. I think they're either wide or average and short. With almost every bra I've ever worn, I have gapping where the cup attaches to the strap.
I think this band is pretty uncomfortably tight but with wear it may be ok. It's also rough and itchy. Would washing soften it? The cups are either too big and/or wide. And I'm still not sure about breast tissue vs tail of spence.

helpfulUnless your measurements are outdated, no decent calculator should put you in a 30 band. You are nowhere near fluffy enough or heavy-bosomed enough to need a band that is SMALLER than your tight rib measurement! If you do find a 30 band on sale, I see nothing wrong with wearing it, but you'll want to use an extender, because if worn as is, the extreme tension on the too-small band is going to distort the cups, pulling them outwards laterally and deforming the wires. This would be the first step I'd suggest when assessing the fit on this bra. Put on an extender and adjust until the band is nice and comfy, but secure--then scoop and swoop again, and see what the fit looks like in the cups.

helpfulHang in there... you'll find something! It does look like you have shorter roots, and I don't think you're that wide really... (I have similar breast shape/size/characteristics). This particular cup does look too wide for you in any case, and with soft tissue, cups that are too wide are not user friendly! To reduce some of the strap gap and improve uplift, it really helps to have cups that are the right width. When you take the bra off, can you support your breast to see where the side of your boob is in comparison to the wire marks? I also wonder if this bra is too shallow right at the bottom underwires - it's hard for me to tell, but it does look like the cup is buckling over on itself. I'm also wondering if the sides are distorting/pulling towards the back because the band is a bit snug at the moment? The Freya half cup that I bought new felt scratchy for the first couple wears, but it did soften up quickly! Freya is also known to be a bit stretchier, and I do find that true with the one I own (it fit just right at first but is now a bit loose). For other styles... Polish bras always seem to come up of course, but the other bras I've personally tried with good success are Cleo Marcie, Cleo Minnie, Cleo Jasmine, and a Anna Pardal Sophisticated balconnet (compared to a plunge it has reduced cups, reduced gore, and straps moved in). Good luck!

I think you want something with narrower wires and more room for centre fullness.I think the size itself is probably about right. The band is pretty loose for a 30. Most of my 30s stretch from 78 to 82 cm. At 86 cm, this is more like a standard 32. You don't mention if it feels too tight, so I think this kind of large 30, or a 30 plus extender, and smaller 32s would be best. The 32FF and the 30G seem to give you about the right total depth. It is about shape and placement. You have narrower roots than this cup is made for. You also have more centre fullness/projection than this style can handle. The wrinkling on the bottom and outside of the cup is because you have more immediate projection than this bra has room for. The TOS issue is that they overlap. If the wires were narrower, the straps would be set narrower and the strap attachment on the cup can help smooth that area out. As to the gap at the strap attachment, if that becomes the only fit issue you have, you'll be doing really well. With a bra that fits everywhere else better, you will find that gap is lessened.

helpfulIf you're wide rooted, I would avoid Comexim and Ewa Michalak? Though I do think that some of their styles tend to be a bit wider, they're generally known for having narrow wires, especially in your size range...
I agree strongly that you should stick to 32. My measurements are 26.5/28/30, and I'm still often more comfortable in a 32. And if you do wind up going Polish, remember that their bands often run at least a little small; as a True 32, you should start with 75("34") and go from there.
Freya tends to be on the wider side, but I do think these cups are being pulled wider by the too-tight band, so if you have or can get an extender I would try it with that and see what happens to the cups...
Finally: I haaaaated the Patsy I tried once because of the fabric. It feels so..... cheap and plastic-y. This is not a problem had by ALL Freyas, I don't think, so you needn't give up on the brand. But tbf, the only other Freya/Fantasie I've tried was the 30G - Fantasie » Rebecca Spacer Moulded Bra (2024) (in several styles), so I can't really comment on Freya fabric selection.
On that note, if you are indeed wide rooted, I would give the Rebecca a shot. It didn't work for me because it was too wide/shallow, but it might work better for you, and it's a great daily basic t-shirt bra.
ETA: also it looks like the gore on this might be too wide. a Do you think that's so? Try putting the bra on without clasping it and see if you can get the gore comfortable between your breasts without it actively resting on your tissue. If it is too wide, make note of the top measurement and keep an eye on "cup separation" as you click through bras to try.

helpfulYes, this is too tight, and the tightness of the band pulls the wires apart. I'd try it in 32FF, it should fit a lot better that way. I don't think you need 30 bands in any brand.

These wires are too wide. By at least 1/2" or more. Not sure if its possibly because the wires are distorted from being snug or not. Is the band comfortable? I see some center fullness, and this gore looks too wide, possibly too tall to be comfortable for being close-set. You look very similar to my shape, maybe more short rooted than I though. If I had some time, I could draw lines on your photo to show where the wires should be. I've tried this style before, just different colorway, and it pushed me out toward the sides. Are you looking for just a nice, rounded uplifted shape? Halfcups work best for me for this. You'll need more room in the center, immediately next to the gore to accommodate the fullness there. Also some immediate projection at the bottom of the cup, too. I have doubts any British brands will fit correctly and comfortably. Sizewise, tighter bands like Panache or Cleo you will likely get a 34 to feel most comfortable. Looser bands like Freya probably 32, just going off your measurements.
Have you tried the Cleo Juna? The band runs true to size in my experience, though I've only had two or three of them. It has the most center projection of British brands that I have tried. (Closest to my favorite Ewa Michalak CHP's) Maybe go for a 32F or FF?
