Bra fitting help » In-cup flattening/quadding?
Cleo » Mimi Padded Balconnet Bra (8091) » 28DD 28:5
Issue resolved
Bra too small, cups too projected. Cleo Maddie is a good fit alternative for me.
Original problem
I've been on a bra rampage lately, but nothing is fitting quite right. However, I think Mimi *almost* works? But it creates some weird flattening (quadding?) in the right cup, near the strap, detail pic attached. It's sort of visible in the side picture, but it's more visible in that extra shot, and that flattening runs from the top of the cup down to the bottom. Why is this happening?
To back up, I originally ordered this bra (since returned; Amazon Prime ftw) in a 28E after fitting a Marcie in the same size. The left cup seemed to fit relatively well, but the right cup had a decent amount of gaping, particularly at the center and some at the top. But the same flattening/quadding effect as is currently happening with the 28DD was happening on the outer side of the cup with this one too.
In addition, there's some minor top quadding going on in my left boob, but I'm pretty sure that's only happening because the wire isn't sitting in my IMF on that side. I have scoliosis, so my boobs are at two different heights (nothing like trying on bra after bra in search of The One to discover every last idiosyncrasy about your boobs, lol)—I've noticed that, if I deliberately match both wires to both IMFs, my bra ends up insanely crooked. Is that how I should be wearing it? Or should I just match the wire to my lower boob?
Thank you so much in advance, you guys are amazing.

helpfulConsidering the amount of 'side-boob' (breast tissue squeezed into your armpits), and the flattening, it looks too small.
You said that 28E was too large on you and gaping, so you may simply need a 28E bra, but with less cup depth.
I'd suggest Cleo Maddie because, telling from my own experience, the cup shape is similar to Mimi (same wires, etc.), but the cups are more shallow and less prone to gaping. Pick one of those Maddie styles that don't have a protruding rim (avoid the solid 'continuity' colors).
My best suggestion is Masquerade Georgiana and any of its sister cuts, if you are lucky enough to still get your hands on one of those! That cut is the predecessor of Mimi and has sadly been discontinued a few years ago, but they were like a "holy grail" bra, especially in the smaller cup size spectrum, because they were super easy to fit, comfy to wear, and able to accomodate nearly any shape.Updated on March 24, 2017 Flag this

Maddie works! I did go for a "nude" color, so the rim does behave as you predicted, but it doesn't bother me. I'm actually shocked at the shape it gives my boobs, super-round! It's quite comfortable, too, though the straps are too wide—gonna wear it around for a day to see if this actually presents discomfort. Thank you for your suggestion!!

helpfulMimi, at least in this color, is pretty short, narrow, and projected. This isn't covering enough; there's breast tissue escaping from the sides. I think you need a wider and taller and somewhat less projected bra.

Do you have a specific recommendation for a different bra? Currently ordering Juna, Maddie, and hunting down (trying to, anyway) a Masquerade Georgiana—but the more, the merrier!

I'm not super familiar specific bras with your shape and size range, but molded bras in general are usually more suited for your shape. If you want something unlined, I found Parfait's recent model unlined bras (referred to as "Wire Bras" by the brand) to be taller and wider, such as Parfait By Affinitas Leigh (5052)

I'll check it out! Thanks!!

helpfulI think this is just too small. I'd be curious to see the 28E. Perhaps Cleo Juna in 28E or even 28F as it does run at least one cup small would be a better shape match.

I do actually have pictures of it in the 28E, I just didn't want to overwhelm these forums with fit requests! I can post them on my profile or something though, but the extent of the gaping in the right cup isn't visible. However, looking at those pictures after looking at these over again, this size definitely does look a bit small.

I'd like to see a fit check on the 28E, mostly because this bra looks enough too small that I can't imagine the 28E being big enough that it's unwearable. I think this is a good shape for you.

Ordering a Maddie today, will report back!
