Bra fitting help » loose fabric at the sides of the cups

Issue resolved
My breasts are wide and shallow (I didn't know this!!) and therefore don't work with this bra. I'll search for some bras that might work better for my shape.
Edit: a couple of months later I now know I wear a larger cup size (30DD/E, or about 5.5 in width and 8.5 depth). This bra is probably still a shape mismatch, but the cups of this bra were definitely too small.
Original problem
This is the first bra I bought with size recommendations from reddit and bratabase. Unfortunately it doesn't fit that great: there is loose fabric at the outer sides of the cups, and my breasts only fill the cups when I pull the straps quite tight, but this also compresses some (breast?) tissue under my arms. I also tried this bra in a smaller size (28D), but the problem remained.
I'm not sure if the cups are too big, or if the model just isn't for me. Does anyone have recommendations for what type of bra would work for me (separate breasts, full on bottom)? I thought balconette bras with side support should work. Am I wrong?
Thanks!

helpfulI bought my mom this bra in a 28D and she experienced the same problem. She is also very short rooted, so she also experienced gaping on top. I bought her the Masquerade Alice plunge bra and it fit her PERFECTLY., and because she's FOB and wide set, the plunge bra is more like a full coverage bra on her.

helpfulIt looks like the wires are sitting on breast tissue on the outside. I know you said the cups are too wide, but to me it looks like the opposite. I think you may have tissue spread over a wider area of your chest than this bra allows for and you are experiencing the "orange in a glass" effect. You can't get all your tissue into the cups so it looks too big. It just doesn't match your shape.
There's a guide on r/abrathatfits for shallow shapes. I don't have the link but maybe ask for it over there. Iirc it lists at least 20 bras.

Thanks for the suggestion. My breast tissue does go all the way under my arm so that could be it! My breasts are projected and full on bottom when I'm standing, but when I lie down they are indeed shallow. I'll check the reddit guide :)

Update: I got the Cleo Juna as recommended by the Reddit guide and it fits great! :D

helpfulCan you post a pic of what it looks like when you do NOT tighten the straps so much?
The empty folds at the side are basically gathers that are being created by tension from the overtightened straps.
I agree with the poster who said you probably need something wider. More centered straps might help as well, because you have some side fullness and upper-outer-quadrant fullness that wide-set straps are more likely to bite into.Updated on May 15, 2017 Flag this

Thanks for helping me! I've added a few pictures in which I didn't tighten the straps much. It may take a few minutes before they get approved by bratabase. It still kind of looks the same to me though. Would a bra with higher wings help me keeping the upper-outer-quadrant tissue in place, or would it only compress it more and look weird? Ideally I'd have a bra that helps centering my breasts.
I just ordered a Cleo Lucy balconnet bra in several sizes. I read on r/abrathatfits that this one might work for me and it looks similar to this Freya. I'm also considering the Celeste bra from the Little Bra Company, because the straps look very centered, but I'm not sure if the wires would be wide enough for me.

well it depends, some people with the side tissue want it contained and some want it left alone. What feels better to you?

I think I've never really had it contained... But I think it'd look better and would maybe help making my breasts look less flat. More centered straps will definitely help. Straps are usually too wide for me and always slip off.

There is nothing wrong with that tissue, so it's really a matter of personal preference! If you want bras that allow the bust to project out (unlike vertical-seamed designs that minimize the bust when viewed from the side) then you want to look for horizontal and diagonal seams

Thanks, I'll see if I can find the Alice plunge bra to try it out :)
