Bra fitting help » Gaps, wrinkling, poking wires

Issue resolved
Sized down a cup
Original problem
Band: The band feels a little tight compared to my previous bras, but I’ve been wearing bands that are significantly too large, so this is probably just me learning to adjust to proper sizes.
Wires: Width of the wires surround my breast tissue well, but they’re a little taller so they’re poking into my armpit a bit.
Gore: Lies mostly flat, but the width is causing the wires to overlap on each other. Also seems a little too short to contain the top of my breast tissue.

helpfulSee advice on panache Tango Same applies here IMO!
Just a size question, the tag on the strap says G cup? What does it say on the tag inside the bra band?Updated on December 30, 2017 Flag this

I'm not sure what I did incorrectly to make this show up as a 42F. When I go on the "My Bras" page it reads as 42G, and I entered the measurements as a 42G as well.

Perhaps you checked "US Size"?

I think I've fixed it. Thank you for pointing out and helping me correct the error!

helpfulSo, for that 'bulge' at the arm-pit - are you scooping-and-swooping? You should try to use your hands to get as much flesh in to the bra as you can. Its hard to figure out how the wire can be too tall (again, i cant see the wire) but the bra isnt tall enough to contain the tissue in the armpit. Poking is not always because of the height of the wire.

Thanks for the feedback. I'll try to do a really good scoop-and-swoop again and take a photo that more clearly shows where the underwire ends.

"tallness" of the bra at the sides isn't a simple issue.. the edge of the wing coming down from the strap attachment point may not stay put even after armpit tissue is scooped in there, especially when the wearer moves their arms. Also the end of the wire can be poking "non-movable" breast tissue that's shallowly spread around the side of the ribcage as opposed to armpit tissue. The wearer will just feel pain but it's often not clear what exactly is hurting in that area.

So, it looks like the gore tacks nicely, and the wire is not up to your armpit, but digging in to flesh slightly below the actual pit. I'm wondering - there is so much wrinkling. Is the band too tight? It looks like its pulled really tight, which can pull the wires in too hard to your body.
BUt it also looks like the straps are way over-tightened - I guess because the cups are so much too big. It also looks like you cant fill the bottom of the cup on one side, tho. Is it possible that the bra is not wide enough? Or that your breasts are short? I am not sure what I"m seeing - it would probably be easier to see what is going on in a smaller cup, tho, since this is clearly too big.

I think the band is pretty good, I can get two fingers between myself and the band, but I do think the straps could be too tight.
When you say "is it possible the bra is not wide enough", do you mean the width of the cups? And in regard to short breasts, could you elaborate?
I just added some shapes to my measurements to better describe my breasts. This is what I came up with: Pendulous, Rather empty, Big areolas, Close boobs, Low Nipples, Narrow boobs, Pointy
-
I dont find pendulous makes much difference - other than some breasts are so perky they refuse to be shaped at all. So you are sure you are narrow? Because I was thinking, if you lost all that weight, the root of your breasts may still be wide - like, the roots might still be typical width for your previous size, rather than your current size. When my boobs fluctuate, the root seems to stay pretty similar, I think. I'm 52, tho, and have nursed 3 babies for 3 years each, so my boobs have been stretched out and deflated a lot - but i wasnt wearing wired bras then, and i'm a 32JJ now . ..
Short - well, there are 3 common reasons to have empty space at the top of the bra. 1 - its too big. Which this is.
2 - you are 'full on bottom' - as opposed to full-on-top. When my breasts are supported in a bra, they mound up a lot above the nipple. Someone who is not FOT would have more of a straight line or even a 'ski slope' shape on the top half of their breast, rather than a mound like I have. So, if you have a FOB breast shape in a FOT bra, there will be too much space at the top of the bra because its a shape mis-match
3 - your breast root is short. From the bottom of your breast tissue to the top where your breast tissue ends, that is not taking up as much space as average. So even if you are FOT, most FOT bras would just be too tall. The apex would be too high and the top of the bra would be too high. Its hard to know if this is the case if the bra is too big, tho.
One more thing - if your breasts are narrow around the middle of them or near the end, the roots might still be wide. I have no idea how to accurately measure that. but - idk, i kind of like this page. I'm Omega shaped. My root is pretty narrow for my shape, but my breasts are much wider/rounder/bigger in the middle of them than they are at the root. I need bras with a fairly narrow wire, but a roomy cup with room for inner, outer and upper fullness. Actually the Tango (at least in my size) seemed like one of the best fits for my omega-shaped boobs. Again, its hard to know what exactly the shape mis-match is with you and the tango, since its too big.
Reread this post and you were concerned the gore was too short to contain your breast tissue - idk, it doesnt look like the gore is too short as much as the cup shape is just wrong somehow.
I"m no expert tho - honestly I bought and returned SO many bras from amazon when I first started this! I'd started with a different company but they had terrible return policies.

When a bra is too big and the cups unfilled and flapping in the wind, the wires tend to get very uncomfortable. There's not enough tension on the cup to keep them still on the body, so they poke, they're usually too tall for the wearer etc. etc. I would not overthink width etc. etc. at this time, try a smaller cup volume first and then reassess.

Thank you both again. I took some pictures of myself to get a better view than just turning around in a mirror taking mental notes. I think dbmamaz you are probably right about the root width. When I look at myself top-down and at a 3/4 angle I can see that my breasts take on a shape similar to the bottom of a heart or a spade - wider at the top and coming to a "point" at the nipple. They aren't like a half-moon or an omega shape.
As for fullness in top or on bottom, again, I think you're right. The guides I found on abrathatfits strongly emphasized the need to determine FOT/FOB when breasts are supported by a well-fitting bra, but I don't have a well-fitting bra! In the bra I wore to make that call, because the cups were WAY too small (a 'B') it forced the mounding that I saw. In these bras, even though they're too big, I can see much better the way my breast tissues sit - all my tissue settles at the bottom and creates a straighter line on top.

Oh, good catch - you marked this as an F but the visible tag says G.
