Bra fitting help » Wires still sit on breasts, how important is having wide enough wires?

Issue resolved
I need to wear my bras on my imf otherwise they pop out of the bra and wires will sit on my tissue
Original problem
At a cup with of 5.75" for a 30E, this is still sitting on my breast (I wore this with an extender today and got marks at about 0.5" on my outer boobs), so I guess I need an even shallower bra. It gets more difficult as I have center fullness, very shallow sides, and am short waisted with a narrow frame.
All my bras sit on my breasts, but I don't feel this so it doesn't bother me at all!
How important is it to find a wire that doesn't sit on breast tissue? Should I continue my quest?

helpfulAs far as the pictures tell, the bra looks great on you!
The only reason why the wires should not sit on breast tissue is because a wire pressing into breast tissue hurts really badly.
So, if you do not experience any pain, this is not an issue.I had some difficulties figuring out where my breast tissue ends too, as this is really difficult if you have shallow boobs and cannot see a crease.
My piece of advice would be to relax about this, and take pain (or absence of pain) as a guide. It also helped me to gently press the ends of the underwires against the ribcage using my fingers. If there is a short, sharp pain, it is sitting on breast tissue and wires are too narrow. If there is no distinguishable pain (and it feels just like pressing any other spot on my ribcage), the width is fine.
Also keep in mind that breast migration is a thing, and the wire width you can handle may change from wider to narrower over time, as the breast tissue settles into place at the front.Updated on August 5, 2017 Flag this

helpfulWires sitting on breast tissue can affect breast growth and create dents in your tissue over time... I understand it's super difficult to find an optimal fit when you have a very petite frame but would encourage you to keep trying. Given a choice between slight gapping at the upper outer corner of the cup (common in molded cups) and wires that bite into your body tissue, I would always recommend the gapping, which usually isn't even visible through clothes.
To me it looks like you would need to go up one cup volume in this bra (per measurements) to allow for your center fullness.
Can I ask why you used an extender? Adding length to the back of the band will decrease tension on the band and wires, and can actually allow the ends of the wires to climb up onto breast tissue when they would not otherwise have done so.

Thanks so much for this information! I'll keep on trying new bras :)
I used an extender because the band was very uncomfortable. I have a bony ribcage and some rib flare, and sometimes get back pain from bands that are too tight, but maybe this is because I tend to wear my bands too low? I tried this without the extender and wore it right on my IMF for a day and it was much better: my boobs didn't escape and the wires weren't sitting much on my breasts (although they still left a mark on my breasts, right at the start). I've ordered a cup size higher to see how that would work.

helpfulOne thing I see is that the wires are sitting below your imf. This bra lacks the depth you need at the wire and your breasts are trying to sit in the part of the bra that has sufficient room for them. Wearing over the course of the day you may experience discomfort from the wires digging into your ribs. Try wearing the bra for an hour as you go about normal activities and see if it still feels comfortable before you decide to keep it.
I have side tissue too. I find that I have to scoop and swoop pretty aggressively and I need wires that press firmly against my sides to hold the tissue in the cups.

Thanks for your comments! It's so hard to wear bras with tall cups like this one on my IMF! I wore this bra to work and it wasn't too bad, although at the end of the day my boobs had somewhat escaped the bra. Also, it didn't feel very spruce so I might need smaller cups. I checked and the wires of this super wide bra sits at the same place on my breast as a slightly narrower one, so maybe this bra is indeed too shallow? I'm still not sure about my shape and it's so hard to find a bra that fits

PS you're right, I'm not wearing this on my IMF. The fit does seem better when I wear it up higher. I'll try to wear it for a couple of hours to see if my boobs still escape

Thanks so much for your reply! Great to read I'm not the only one struggling with finding the right with, and that it may get better over time :)
