Bra fitting help » Empty space at the wire, plus quadding. Am I wrong about my shape?
Curvy Kate » Florence Balcony Bra (CK8001) » 34J 34:13
Issue resolved
Florence is not the bra for me. I'm trying Curvy Kate Tropics at the suggestion of the community. I also realized I am omega-shaped.
Original problem
I have been thinking that my shape is narrow, balanced/FOB, with lots of immediate projection and possibly short roots. I've heard that the Florence is considered just about perfect for that shape, right? Given the fit issues I had, I'm wondering if I got my shape wrong.
I have empty space and wrinkling near the wire, but still have some quadding, especially on my bigger side.
My bra history goes something like...
2013: Cleo Lucy and Marcie were both great (so round!) except for mercilessly stabbing me under the arms. Marcie gave me in-cup quadding as the bras aged.2015: Panache Jasmine and Envy slide about 2" out of my IMF, which hurts like the dickens, but I tolerate them for two years because they stab my armpits a little less and give such a lovely round shape, without going to Cleo roundness extremes. (Clara is like this, but more so.)
2017: CK Ellace doesn't stab me, only sneaks about 1" out of my IMF, but breaks my heart with in-cup quadding.
Cleo Hettie is a good enough fit to keep: barely stabs armpits, almost stays in IMF, gives me a pointier shape, but still pretty.
CK Tease: Hahaha NO.
Ewa Michalak SM Triumf feels almost perfect, *almost* stays in IMF, leaves a tiny bit of empty space at the wire and a tiny bit of quadding on my larger side.

helpfulI think you might appreciate Vegas/Tropics in 34JJ. It's like if CK made a Jasmine but better. But you also might get in cup quadding. Still, the mesh is much firmer than the Ellace.
For the Ellace, you might be able to fix the in cup quadding by pulling the lace in towards the gore and tacking it down so it's tighter and thus firmer.
Have you tried a cup size larger in your Triumph? Might help with the quad.

It's hard for me to say for smaller bands. The only other one on bratabase is a 28 band and it's true to size. As bands scale up they definitely have more room to stretch. Can you try both?

Also, look at triumphof's great reviews for more help. She's almost your size and a similar shape. She might have great advice about things I haven't thought of.

helpfulSince Hettie fits you well, try Envy and Jasmine again and also take a look at Cleo Kayla.
For Florence, I would recommend trying a cup size up but it caps out at J. If you think you could do a 36 band, you could try 36J, but otherwise you'll have to write this bra off.

Thanks for the suggestions!
I don't want to go back to Envy or Jasmine again if I can possibly avoid it, because they're so painful. I have two Envys and four Jasmines in 34J. Within about half an hour of putting them on, they slide about two inches out of my IMF and start chafing my skin. The ends of the underwires also stab me in the armpits, though not as badly as with Cleo Lucy. (I'm hoping that with better fitting wires, the skin discoloration/scarring where my wire ends hit will eventually fade.)
I neglect to mention it in my post, but I've also tried Cleo Kayla. I think it would work pretty well, except that my soft tissue doesn't get along with the stretch lace. It gives me in-cup quadding. (In my size, Hettie has an additional layer of mesh behind the stretch lace that prevents this).
I have been trying to find CK Belle, Bardot, etc. in 34JJ so I could try sizing up, but it seems like nearly everything in that cut has been discontinued. If I have to write off Florence, do you think I should keep looking here and on eBay for any of those sister cuts?
Thanks again for your help!

Belle and Bardot are more closed on top than Florence.
-
In that case, they would probably cut in even if I went up a cup size, right?
-
They might, yeah. I think you are omega shaped, but I'm not sure if you are short rooted enough for Belle and Bardot. I would try them in 34JJ or K if you want to see if they would work. Sheer bliss looks like this season's Bardot/Belle.

going up a size should cut in less because there will be more space for your upper fullness. You might want to try a Ewa SF too - but i have to wear SF a size or two larger than SM

cupandahalf , I've been reading up on omega shape. Mind blown. Even after all the bra (and boob) photos I've seen, I don't think I realized that my shape wasn't typical of all pendulous, projected breasts.
Leaning over 90 degrees, the circumference of my breast at the root is 16" (and squishes easily), but the circumference of my breast at the fullest point is 17" (and slightly resists being squished by the tape measure).
That's omega, right? And it's not common?
I call BS on explanations floating around the internet of how omega shape "happens" though. I might have been wearing a poorly fitting bra for two years as a preteen (I went from [probably] 32B to [probably] 34DD in a hurry), but since then I've been hardcore about support and correct cup size. Plus, I've never, ever lost weight. :) Why do they make that claim on HerRoom, etc.?

100% yes to everything. It's fat shaming and big boob shaming. I am 34, have been omega shaped since I was 14, when my BMI was normal for my age and I was in the small band large cup category. I have never nursed. I have firm tissue and it's fibrous. I have no breast tissue under my armpit and never have. I've been wearing well-fitting bras for the last 7 years and nothing has changed as far as shape.
There's just a lot that is unknown and unclear about breast shape, and a lot of unfounded claims. And since most do not have an omega shape, there's a lot of bad info, by expert and amateur fitters alike.
Omega shape will define your needs bra wise. It needs more info written about it. Back when I was blogging I was going to write a bit about it but then I got overwhelmed with my phd and didn't. I will eventually.

Because they are trying to sell you bras maybe? Its amazing how one person will write an article with absolutely NO scientific support for claims they are making, and then other people will repeat it as fact.
I'm also Omega (tho i havent measured that way) and it took me years to notice. I also spent some time not wearing bras and wearing unstructured bras . . .but I think its a combination of genetics and, for me, the nursing . . . my breasts went up 3 sizes in my unstructured bra - which probably woudl've been more like 6 in sized, wired bras - from pre-pregnancy to max-postpartum size. With such rapid growth, the root was not growing, just the tissue.

I realize I'm late to the party but Jasimine does the same to me but certain Elomi's are fine and some give me no support at all. I'm about your breast size and have never nursed. The Malitida or the Raquel from Elomi fit good but buy a tight band during to scretching. I find 34 hh works ok for about 6 months because I'm active and workout several times a week. Fantasie is either hit or miss. It really depends on the bra. With Curvy Kate, I general have to buy an extender on a 32 to get the bra tight enough so I don't come out of the bra. I have an 34 and 32 J in the Emily and the 32 gives me a great silhouette. Hope this helps.

Intriguing! I'm going to give Vegas/Tropics a try.
I was just reading your review of the Vegas where you suggested sizing down in the band. Do you think I should try 32JJ or 32K instead of the 34JJ?
