Bra fitting help » Top of cups wrinkle - need smaller cup o wrong style?
Chantelle » Rive Gauche 3 Part Cup (3281) » 70D 32:4
Issue resolved
Purchased different bra
Original problem
The top of the cups are wrinkling and I'm unsure if it's because I need a smaller cup size OR if this is just the wrong shape for me. I REALLY like this bra and I want it to fit. Most bras cut into my tail of spence painfully and cause sores, this is the first one that doesn't.
I am FOB

helpfulThe Rive Gauche just runs really large/deep overall. If you're pointy naturally, though, it should be a decent match for your shape, so I wouldn't dismiss it before trying a couple more sizes.
Are your rib measurements up to date? Just asking because you're a little bit borderline for wearing a 32, so an extender might help. It seems to be making an indent on your sides which is unusual for someone so lean unless they are wearing a too-tight band. I might try a 70C with extender and see how that works.
I don't see epic amounts of underarm tissue by any means, and this bra has reasonably tall wings, so I'm guessing the reason other bras bother your tail of spence is actually due to strap placement? This style of bra--full cup with more narrow set straps--can be a good solution because of the strap position. If the Rive gauche doesn't work perfectly, Fantasie's Jacqueline range would be worth a look, and some of the Wacoals also have nice centered straps in their full cups (DEFINITELY size up in band in most Wacoals cos they run tight and will cut you in half if you try to get through the day in a 32 with a 32.5" torso!)

Hmm if you have a physical job I imagine it is not just the tail of spence that is clashing with strap positioning, but your actual muscles, which you use during the day! I will try to think of other bras with more centered straps.
Isn't the tightness of the bands the reason that they stretch so fast though, given that physical activity causes ribcage to spend more time expanded during effort? It would seem, at first glance, that with a physical job, ideally you would need a wide, stable band (so it doesn't ride up) that is *not* too tight?
-
I honestly never thought about the band that way. It is hard to find a wide and stable band sometimes. Even the lace ones feel really flimsy sometimes.
If you can think of any centered straps, let me know. I really appreciate it, thank you so much.

helpfulSuch a pretty style! I love the colour and the stitching details on the straps and bow. Gorgeous. I can see why you want it to work. The wrinkling seems kind of borderline and like it wouldn't show through shirts unless they were quite tight - is it a hassle to try it on in a cup size down? If the wires are too wide in this size they'll be narrower in a cup down. The bottom of the wire looks like it might be sitting a bit lower than your IMF - how does it feel?

It's not severe, I just wish it "cupped" my breasts better, if that makes any sense. I can totally order a cup size down, I think that will be my next step.
It feels like the wire is in my IMF. My IMF isn't "obvious", if that makes sense. It was placed where it was comfortable. -
An un-obvious IMF totally makes sense - when I was a teenager I didn't have a 'fold' at all, just a graduated curve upwards, and it was actually difficult to work out exactly where my breasts started. I think it looks great on you as it is and a size down may be too small but it's definitely worth trying for wire width alone. I usually have good wire width in a sizes that give me quad boob... Oh well, a little compromise is fine sometimes. Hope the different size works, it's such a pretty bra :)

helpfulWhere are the wire marks when you remove your bra? It looks like the gore may be sitting ON your breasts rather than between them. Does this sound accurate? If I remember correctly, this model is not friendly to center-full breasts. I see wrinkles both under the cup and near the gore.... If this is the case, sizing down may not remedy your fit issues. Sigh. You may need more immediate and center projection. Alas, this bra fits you infinitely better than it fit me

helpfulDoes the lace still wrinkle after you scoop and swoop? Because your measurements say you definitely have enough tissue for this bra. Agree with trying the 70C, I would like to suggest may be trying the 75C if the band bothers you/is too tight, but I worry that the wires would then be much too wide for you and you already indicate that these wires are too wide for you. If you try the 70C and it ends up being too small, you could try to alter this bra by pulling the lace up until it is smooth and sew it to the strap so it remains that way and try to bend the wires so that they "hug the breast" better.
Hope one day I can be as helpful and articulate as wendybien and rubypigUpdated on November 18, 2017 Flag this

LeProfessor ha, you're too kind! I'm just a beginner like you ;)

Wow, thank you! let me answer this in parts.
1. My rib measurements are up to date. I bought an extender but honestly my bras stretch out LIKE CRAZY because I work a relatively physical job (veterinary technician). so I usually settle for a bit too tight.
2. It's totally strap placement that bothers my tail of spence, 100%. It's very difficult to find bras that fit my shape (FOB, wide spaced) that don't have straps super far apart. The bra I've been wearing is a Wacoal Amazing Assets in 34C, which is OK. Mostly the band is too loose. I'll check out the Jacqueline range. I'm desperate for a comfortable bra that doesn't cut into my arms painfully.
