Bra fitting help » Side boob or is this how balconettes should fit?

Issue resolved
Went up a cup, which fixed some of the fit issues, but overall the cups are too close together for my breast shape. A different style would be more appropriate.
Original problem
I went to a really well reviewed bra fitting store the other day, and was initially fitted into this bra, but a cup size smaller (32C). My chest was spilling out of the sides, but the fitter told me it was because I have wide shoulders. I asked her to get me a cup size up, which she did after bringing me 34B, and then conceded that the 32D fit better. After further inspection, I'm wondering if I didn't completely rectify the side boob issues, or if this is how the balconettes are supposed to fit. I feel a little pinch on the sides of my chest, and wonder if I am all the way contained. Any insights are greatly appreciated!!

helpfulI've never liked balconettes, their wires are too short at the sides for my tall roots. I almost always wear plunges so that the wires are higher at the sides.
I think you should try plunge bras in both 32D and 32DD and see what happens.

Which Betsey Johnson plunge do you own? I am also a huge Betsey Fan. I also find that b.tempt'd plunges work well.

I've got the Betsey Johnson Lace Back Plunging Underwire Push-Up Bra. I've always wanted to try b.tempt'd but I never have! I'll be sure to check them out!

You should be fine in most of the Betsey Johnson 32DD bras then. b.tempt'd fits similarly...just avoid the ciao bella.

helpfulThis well-reviewed bra shop owes you an apology! Pinching = not good. A bra that pinches your body does not fit, period. Your breast tissue is firm enough not to make big squishy bulges and rolls, but just because it looks pretty doesn't mean it fits... This is too small in volume and too narrow. Your assessment of the fit problems is totally correct and you need one to two cup sizes up.
The fitter was either inexperienced or incompetent, and made the typical rookie mistake of putting you in a too-small cup just because your breast shape is not super projected. This does NOT mean "small breasts so let's put her in a small cup." If you look at your photo #2, observe the breast further from the camera: you can see that the cleavage line, the line which shows there is still a good depth of breast tissue on your body at this point, continuing almost 3, perhaps more inches up from the top edge of the bra cup! Someone whose breast root is this tall is unlikely to have super narrow breasts. You don't need a cup that's miles tall, because the upper breast doesn't necessarily need containment, but at the sides, you need a wire that goes all the way around and doesn't make you spill out.

Thank you so much for your help! I felt like such crazy person even asking for a cup size up when she gave me the 32C! She said the side spillage with the C was due to my body shape and could be covered by my shirt. She was shocked that I filled out a 32D, and I guess I should have looked more closely in the store, but was already exhausted by convincing her I wasn't a C (and wondering if I didn't know what I was talking about) I will see if I can try on the larger size and see if I have better luck!! Thank you for you insights! I was wondering what went wrong
-
Yeah she's the one that went wrong, no reason to doubt yourself at all! Also, many things can be covered with a shirt--that doesn't mean you will be comfortable. If you go back there I would ask for another salesperson... you're not paying good money to get something that hurts, so her arguments sound a little clueless to me. People buy bras to actually wear them!
-
Yes I found that comment about the shirt odd, I mean....I can still feel it. I will definitely seek assistance from a different person! Thank you so much for the insights! I alway learn so much on here!

helpfulThe 32DD should be able to rectify your fitting issues here. I do not think that the DD will go up as high as your tissue does, but you seem to have very firm tissue so as long as the cups actually fit you, you should be OK. Your boobs look like they're trying to explode out of this bra! I also wanted to ask, did you scoop and swoop the breast into the cup? It looks like if you did you would be quading every where. With your shape, (shallow with wide roots is what your shape appears to be), you may never find a 100% perfect fit in this type of bra, but if you love the bra, you like the shape, and it's comfortable, that's all that counts!

Thank you so much for your suggestions! And eek! You're right I forgot to scoop and swoop! And I do believe that's my shape. I always felt as though my chest started so high up and took more space laterally! I will be sure see about a larger size! Thank you so much

Thank you so much! My betsey johnson plunge in 32DD fits like a dream and contains me wonderfully. Come to think of it, most of my bras are plunges. Didn't realize how many plunges I had until you made that comment! Ahaha! It all starts to make sense! Thank you!
