Issue resolved
Wrong bra for my shape
Original problem
The band feels tight although I believe it is the right size. But my bigger concern is the gaping in the upper breast near the straps and the digging of the cup fabric (not the underwire) into my armpit when I'm in relaxed posture.

helpfulSo, thats not what concerns me. What concerns me is: the cup is cutting in to your flesh at the top; the bottom of the cup is empty; well, thats all I can see since you only took front-facing pic. Its helpful to see pics of the side, too, so we can see how far back the underwires go
So, gapping at the strap is not necessarily a big problem - it can mean the cup is too tall, or too wide, or both. But the cups clearly dont fit your breasts. The measured volume of the cup is smaller than the measured perimeter of your breast by a full inch. And the bra is not projected enough for your breasts. Very few 'foam dome' style bras are, but this one clearly is not fitting.
Hopefully someone near your size has some specific suggestions of bras to try

Well, size is only part of the battle - shape matters even more! Plus different companies use different sizing. Hopefully these fit better than your old bras. The first bra I bought when I was trying to figure out my right size was also a padded foam dome - and when I posted it here, ppl pointed out it was too wide and shallow. It was still the best bra I had at the time, but I've found so many more options since then!

helpfulAfter looking at both of your fit requests and the responses to them, I definitely agree with everyone else! It's pretty clear that you've picked two bras that are both too wide, too shallow, and probably too tall for you as well.
What I also noticed is that both of your bras are being worn too low on the body. I read that you were wearing a 32/34A before finding out about well fitting bras; in an effort to make bras with too small cups and too large band bras fit women often wear the bra much lower on their torso than they should in an effort for the breast to settle in the most projected/deep section of the bra. It's also in an effort to stop gaping along with over tightening straps.
So after finding your "starting size" for the beginning of your bra journey, you have to make sure you're putting on your bra right and that it is sitting correctly on your body. When you go to put on a bra, lean over, slip the straps on, and then push the under wires into your IMF (the crease under your breast where your breast stops and your ribcage starts), close the bra on the loosest hook, put your band into your cup and pull all your breast from under your arm into the cup, stand up, jiggle around, make adjustments and tighten straps if necessary. There's a cute little cartoon on my profile page showing the scoop n swoop!
The wire should be directly under the breast with no space like there is here. If there is space between your breast and the under wire no matter what you do then the bra is most likely too shallow for you! Just keep trying different brands in non-padded styles; Cleo/Panache, Parfait by Affinitas, Mimi Holliday, Fantasie, Curvy Kate, Freya, and Tutti Rouge (although you may find the last 3 too wide for you) are all good brands with quite a bit of information for them on here. Skarlett Blue & Natori make some really nice non padded bras. Aerie is an inexpensive brand to try out, people on here seem to have a love hate relationship with them. There are different levels of shallow and projected breasts and the only way to figure out what you need is to just keep trying bras! Once you figure out your shape and what you need in a bra (with as much help from us as needed!) then it'll be easier to figure what padded bras will work for you. ^.^
Sorry for going on like that!Updated on January 23, 2018 Flag this

Thank you so much! I think I've figured out that breast shape is as important as band and cup size. A true revelation for me! I've ordered a Cleo Marcie and a Simone Perele to try. After reading people's comments and other resources, I believe I have projected breasts with short narrow roots and FOB. Would you agree?
-
From what I have seen here and on your other fit request I would agree that your projected with narrow roots. It's hard for me to to agree or disagree on the other two because they're both padded bras that do a good job at "disguising" your shape. But from what I can see in the angle picture of this fit request is that you don't look particularly FOB to me or very short rooted. Moulded cup bras just tend to have very tall cups that require mostly FOT & soft or easily moulded breasts to fit well.
The only thing I can say about your shape with confidence is that your projected with roots that are on the narrow side. ^.^

helpfulYou're facing the same problem as in the Natori Feathers here. This could be too shallow for you in shape, but since it's too small and tight as well, it's a little hard to say. Try the 32DD if you like it before giving up on this design.

Thanks. I'm 0 for 2. Seems like I managed to buy two bras for shallow breasts. I may need to try balconnette. Wish I hadn't removed the tags. Argh!

Thank you! I've added some side pictures. I'm new to all this. I've always worn 32A. I've recently discovered this site and my measurements indicate a 30dd or 30ddd would be a better fit. This is one of two bras I purchased based on my new size.
