Bra fitting help » Cup wrinkles at the top but the wire fits.
Curvy Kate » Princess Plunge Bra (CK6011) » 28E 28:6
Issue resolved
Loosening the straps helped with the tight feel of the band. However, this style is the wrong shape for me. I will try a different model.
Original problem
The gore tacks nicely on my chest but the band is too tight and although the wire seems to fit fine, the cups are wrinkly at the top and sides. This is a 28E. Should I try a 30DD, a 30D or is the problem the cup shape rather than the size?

helpfulI believe this is the most open of Curvy Kate’s unlined plunges. From my experience, they get more closed on top in this order: Princess plunge, Lifestyle, atomic, dare, cabaret (most closed on top). So try the same size in lifestyle, atomic, or dare and see if that helps the wrinkling.

helpfulI'm sorry no one commented - the only thought I had was that sometimes the cups wrinkle less if you just loosen the straps a bit. Did you have an extender to try it on with? The numbers look like its close to fitting around the back!
Am I right that its only wrinkling on your smaller side? In general we are told to fit to our larger side. You can even put a little 'pork chop' in the bottom of the smaller cup to even them out.
I havent had much luck with curvy kates (except for one long-gone padded one), but I dont think your bigger side could go down a cup size, so stick with 30DD if you try it again.
are there any stores in your area that sell good quality bras?

helpfulIt may be a cup fulness situation, some cups require more upper fullness than others. So it could be the case with this bra in particular. If you're able to try a 30DD it may definitely be worth a shot.
I can't quite tell for sure, but can you confirm if the wires are flush against your imf? It looks fine in the front and angle pic, but the side pic had me questioning. If you were to pull the wires right there it'll show for sure if the cup is too bit or not.
Else, if the bra is properly placed and it's only a bit of wrinkling, if you are feeling well supported it may not be a deal breaker and just be okay.

Yes, the wires are flush, I think it's my shape. I loosened the straps and it's much more comfortable but the cups seem very empty up top. The wrinkling isn't as bad but it would show through my shirt and I'm such a perfectionist that it would bug me too much. I'll just have to try a different model.

helpfulWhat size were you wearing previous to finding your new, true size? Women pre-finding their true size always over-tighten straps to compensate for the lack of support in the band, and it is a hard habit to kick when you start wearing your true size. It took me a while to get used to not over-tightening the straps too.
To me it looks like you have the straps waaaaay to tight which is causing the band to try to ride up in the back which is making it feel too tight (see those wrinkles on the band in the side picture? that the band showing that it is being pulled up by the straps). It looks like it is also causing the slight wrinkling you have going on there.
I think this looks like a fabulous fit on you, albeit there appears to be a bit of a shape mismatch.
I agree completely with cupandahalf, try some of their more closed styles.
The band looks like it fits you perfectly too, or you may just not be used to how nice and firm a band should feel, so having an extender or wearing 30 bands until you are used to the firmness is all just fine.
Welcome to Bratabase! It is nice to see some smaller cupped ladies, you're lucky though being about a two cups larger than me means you will have no problem finding bras (atleast within the brands that have 28/30 bands available, most of them tend to start at the 28E point).
OH, and make sure you do the Scoop and Swoop! You may find the wrinkling goes away after you do this, if you do not know what the Scoop and Swoop is, let me know and I'll leave some links and a description!

You are very right LeProfessor. I was wearing a 32B for the longest time. Trying the band on upside down and also loosening the straps made me realize that the band is not the problem. But while loosening the straps helped a tiny bit with the wrinkling I believe that you and cupandahalf are correct with the shape issue. I'll just have to try a different style.
Yes, thank you! I do know about the Scoop and Swoop. I'm very new to this and I'm still learning. I appreciate all the advice and tips that I've gotten. I'm not positive, but it does seem almost just as hard to find smaller bras as it is to find larger ones. I'm sure I'll have lots more questions.

I tried loosening the straps and that helped with the tightness of the band and a tiny bit with the wrinkles. The extender on the other hand made the wrinkling worse and made it into a pucker. Unfortunately it wrinkles on both sides.
I haven't found any stores near me that carry bands this small. I ordered this one from Brastop.com.
